I am hunting for an MPX300, I want to verify I am getting one of the latest software versions on the phone. Can someone help me with this info.

Check in the PocketPC forum -- that's where all of the MPx threads are.

So how do you like it compared to your PDA2k?

I am a patient guy and love my gadgets, but I would not be honest if I didn't tell you it leaves some to be desired. The delay in answering the phone is aweful, the placement and design of the stylus, ditto, battery life ... and then let's not get into the memory issues.

I liked my PDA2K (still for sale BTW) except for the virtual telephone keyboard. I ordered a JAM and returned it for the same reason. I just can not get used to the virtual keyboard. I was using a RAZR and h4705 combo up until the MPx arrived a few days ago, and the V3 is a tough unit to beat. Great form factor, excellent sound/RF and great BT. Using the SPB full screen keyboard on my 4700 is a nice compromise to having an actual QWERTY board.

Right now I am not certain what I will do with the MPx. I love the form factor, keyboard, and overall design. I just have not used it long enough to see if I am sick of the constant need for resets. I have a message in to the folks at PPCTechs.com to see if they have any plans on offering a memory upgrade. Leonard responded indicating they are currently looking into it.

Only time will tell I guess. Moto really could have had a killer product if they would have done some real market research.

BTW, any idea where one can get access to any ROM upgrades which may become available. I wonder if they will be as easy to upgrade as the iMate products.

Thanks ............

nickp,
did you install any third party apps? other members had commented that the unit seems to slow up when other programs were running in the background, but that the unit seemed to answer calls quicker after a hard reset. have you tried to use the phone with just the stock programs in it? i want to buy one, but i do need it to function well as a phone.

After reading some of the posts, the first thing I did was a hard reset. I have loaded 3rd party apps...Outbox Buddy, Pocket Expense, Resco Picture Viewer and Tweaks2K, all installed on the expansion card. A lot of the memory issues with surfing went away when I moved the PIE files to the SD card using Tweaks. There is a bug when assigning Speed Dials where you have to reset prior to assigning otherwise the screen goes gray.

As a phone, the RF and sound quality is outstanding. There is an issue with the phone taking approx 1 sec to answer when you open the flip. Annoying but not too bad when you get used to it. I came from using a RAZR and got spoiled by it's functionality and quality.

I bought mine from x-1387 on Ebay. Got it about 2 weeks ago.

In the begining, I saw some issues with the product as other users have stated here in the forum.

However, at this point, the device is working rather well. I have not installed any additional software.

After playing around when I first received it, I did a hard rest, and set it up to use my T-mobile account. Works great as a phone and web browser, and email client.

Over time, the battery appears to run longer. Now I can go about 1 whole day without having to recharge. Initially even if I plugged in to sync a few times (battery charges during sync from the USB power), the battery would run down late afternoon. Not Now.

It is impossible to meet the flexibility of this device with any other product in the market. It is truly a mini PC. I really like the keyboard as I hate the virtual keyboards.

The 1 second delay in "answering" a phone call quickly becomes acceptable as you use the device.

WIFI works great. However drains batteries very quickly...perhaps 3 hours from a full battery condition. GPRS connection does not drain the batteries as quickly. It appears using GPRS is not too different than talking on the phone.

Now I am starting to look for suitable SW to install into my 1GB SD card. Will obviously need to install most new programs to this SD card.

I have had to soft reset the dvice about 3 times in the two weeks. I attribute this to my habit of trying to move very quickly through menus and programs. This device is definitely not a speed demon !

Initially had some slight issues with mainting service from T-Mobile. System would just sign me out and it would be some time (1 hour) before T-mobile would allow me back in. I visited a local Tmob store and they recommended a new SIM card (mine was about 2 years old). Problem is GONE.

Love my MPX and would not trade it in for anything. Of course until the next version with a lot more meory internally, and faster clock speed !!
