Anyone tried Bluetoothing the CoPilot and the MPx220? What is involved, does it work, and do you need a laptop to be present to make the whole ensemble work? Also, are there any other or better GPS systems out there for the MPx220? thanks for the help!

I use Mapopolis with a Belkin bluetooth GPS. It works great and costs much less than Copilot.

Yeah, but do you have to have your laptop in the car with you at all times for this to work? Don't you just need a GPS unit and the software downloaded to the phone? Thanks for the price break, but what about the original question?

No laptop is needed, the maps are loaded on your phone. If you have a large storage card you could possibly load the whole usa on it. The Belkin GPS unit connects via bluetooth. The mapopolis maps and software provide both visual and spoken driving directions on your MPX220. I hope that makes it clear

Thank you for the clarification! Now I think I am starting to get it.

Is it possible to use the GPS via Bluetooth and a bluetooth headset/carkit at the same time with the MPx220?

can anyone walk through setting up mapopolis to work with the mpx220 and a bluetooth gps receiver-- i got the mapopolis to work on the phone but could not get it to "speak" to the gps unit.
thanks in advance

fyi -- when i tried copilot i got errors indicating not enough memory

I had thought the latest Mapopolis had corrected this problem of not finding the gps device. In any event, there is a simple hack to fix this problem.

The hack is to use a registry editor (PHMRegEdit for Smartphone), going to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Bluetooth and change the two values to '1'. Then do a repair with the GPS unit (first delete it, then search, and then pair). Two new values should appear in that key. In addition, the previous values have now changed to '2'. Check your
default COM port in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Serial\Ports It appears most people's default on the 220 is COM6. Use this port in your software and you're good to go!

thanks craigg- so this leads me to the next question-- i thought i had gotten to know the phone layout well but i can't seem to find the com settings-- how do i find it??

Com 6 should work for most cingular phones.

start Mapopolis, click menu, click settings, click gps options and com port is at the top.
