.wav and email

I have a .wav file that i e-mailed to my i860. two problems:

1.) It's 8 seconds, and only plays 3
2.) It shows up in the media section but does not let me make it a ring tone.

Anyone know how to fix either of these?

I'm new to the creating ring tones among other things, but if the above it not possible, could someone send me a link telling me how/what to download to make that work?
