Thing is unless he has access to one he has no way to test the program with the V620 and progress to add that model probably won’t happen any time soon.

Bottom line I think would be if he had one to play with, or better yet owned one I’m sure he’d be working on getting it added. If the author were to obtain a V620 for his personal use, I’m sure the model would get added faster, than if he did not.

I know that’s not what you want to hear, just trying to point out that most authors of these programs have to have a working phone to test their programs with, and owning that phone, OR having one given to them usually speeds up the process of getting a new model added to their program. Some of the authors will even solicit a phone to be shipped to them to do just that.

If you want to speed up the V620 being added, you could always ship a V620 to the author...

If i do that, it sits there Initializing for a few minutes, then displays nothing but blank iinformation in the bottom status bar. if i then click on explorer, it diplays the wait dialogue for a bit, then tells me "Phone Communicate Timeout"

Its probably a compatibility issue. The v262 is somewhat new, and not very common as of yet.

to all the gurus out there.. im using a E398 .. n im a noob in flexing/seemin phones... i read tis post saying motokit may rid off d locked tonez n picz in my phone.. so i gave it a shot.. but it cant get any connection.. my MPT works fine n well...

i'm using a windoze XP home SP2.. anything wrong with it...

i've tried all d methods in this post.. nothing seems to work..

Thought i woud share my experience to connect V3 to Motokit, i couldn't get my V3 to connect to motokit p2k or pst.
After some searching around i found that in the device manager i had a motorola usb device showing that was not correctly installed, in fact it had these yellow question marks next to it, there were 3 different subcategories accesorie interface,data logging mcu and test command interface.
I update the driver on each of these pointing to the pk2 directory.
After this bingo my V3 connected to Motokit
I went into properties and selected update drivers

The first time I installed and run Motokit it recognized and connected to my V3 with no problems. The next time however, it did not connect. I started playing with it and found out that when I run "PST Phone Programmer" in the background Motokit connects to the phone with no problems. So B4 I start MotoKit I always make sure that PST runs in the background B4 .
Maybe this would help those who are still unable to get them both connected.

can you add the funlight mod to a v600 using this program easily? im a noob when it comes to modding and i really want to mod my phone but am scared i will mess up.

I get better results when I leave PST running in the background. The results are still, however, useless.

When I try the same thing in p2Kman, I get an invalid file list error.

Just to let people know, I just used MotoKit Suit build 1259 to back up a flex off a T-Mobile V600 I just received...

Then I used Multi-Flash to flex it into a V300 I had running the F8 flex, just to see if it would "work".

Flex worked just fine, the only issues being the default T-mobile wallpaper not being restored after the Master Reset. That problem fixed easily by re-assigning it, but it would be nice for warranty purposes to have everything bad to stock.

The only other thing was that the V600's I just got are LOCKED to T-Mobile, and backing up the flex, and then putting it on another phone will LOCK the phone again. So be sure to have the unlock code handy. The unlock code used from before worked just fine.

This means the info to lock the phone is in one of the seems.... I believe I read something about a seem to delete in regards to the error message you get if flexing to a generic flex, and the phone is lock before doing so. I wonder if that would be the file that "locks" the phone????

Anyhow, Many THANKS to Kempsun, the author of the program. You efforts and time spent are greatly appreciated!!!!!!.

BTW: Has anyone run across a “manual” Or Help file, set of tips for using the program?

can anyone help me on this...i have it connected and running fine..i started playing with the menu settings and video/engineering settings...now my phone lost the homekeys on my V600...meaning pushing the dpad doesnt do anything now anymore haha. and i cant have icons for my menu, just a list. soooo is there a way to get this back to default? i was gonna do the MODIFY FLEX and see if that would do anything, but though id ask before potentially screwing it up more.

When you do the flex, does you use "Flex Creator" --> "FRom the phone" --> "Create Full Flex" .

Do you use "Create Full Flex" or not?

Ofcourse I now have the same problem... after doing something with Motokit (yeah, I did launch the "Fix Ringtone Detail" script...

) I can't access the details of the ring profiles anymore...

Did you find a fix besides reflexing?

I can't really flex my phone, cause I live in the Netherlands and it would mess up my Dutch-dictionary...

Also, I did something rather stoopid... really stoopid: I thought it would look cool when I modified my Phone Model from V3 to V3 Razr.... ok, I seriously don't know what I was thinking, but I did it and now I can't turn it back....

Use PK2man to delete the files MyToneDB.db and TempToneDB.db. Turn the phone off and on and it works again!!

If you get a flex off the net that is LOCKED.... and you flex with that it WILL lock the phone. If you pull the flex off an locked phone that will also re-lock the phone.

If you read one of my posts up above, I had a V300 that was UNLOCKED, I had flexed /flashed it many times before and it remained unlocked (AFAIK)....

Just got some V600's, T-Mobile branded and I wanted to test Motokit to see if I could pull the flex off the new V600's, So I could use them again if needed.

Locked the phone which had been previously unlocked.

Jerry: If "Flex" doesn't have "Lock/Unlock" information, how come you can lock your phone with that flex.
That's my original question. Does that mean I can get a unlock phone flex and restore them to a new lock phone and unlock it.

Jerry: What do you mean by re-lock the phone?
Phone already is lock. But brcause you get flex off this phone, you will re-lock it. I don't understand.

My post was geared towards people that have an unlocked phone, I think that is were the confusion is.
(But I do think it would apply to you as well, you can re-lock an already locked phone… lock it to another network AFAIK . Big problem if it gets locked to O2 in Europe, and you’re on T-Mobile USA)

I was using MotoKit to extract the flex off a brand-new T-Mobile USA V600 (locked to the T-Mobile USA network)… I extracted it, then put it on another T-Mobile USA phone I had previously unlocked. Luckily for me I still had the unlock code, and the code once entered cleared the phone so it’s unlocked again (Unlocked= able to use any GSM providers SIM chip, instead of in this case only being able to use a T-Mobile USA SIM chip)

You have to be careful about which flex you download off the net…. Some flexes are “locking” flexes. The flex does indeed have the lock information, thing is once the lock is toggled on. (Phone is locked to that provider)… You cannot unlock it with a flex that is unlocked.

A flex that contains the locking info will LOCK the phone (regardless of if the phone is locked, or unlocked), but an unlocked flex, from an unlocked phone will NOT un-lock it. A locked phone could be locked to another network (I.e. O2-Europe) if the flex came from a network that is different that the one it’s currently being used on (say T-Mobile USA), so yes the phone could be re-locked.. it could be locked to whatever network the flex was from. That’s why I used the term “re-locked”.

Once locked, it is always locked to THAT network (for example O2), until the unlock code is entered…. (AFAIK you could re-flex it yet again with another providers “locked” flex…(For example T-Mobile) but the phone would still be locked… Until you get the proper unlock code, Or you unlock the phone with a “clip”.)… I’m pretty sure re-flexing with another providers flex would change the network it’s locked to… Phone would still be locked… But at least it would be to the correct network (assuming you’re on T-Mobile for example).

For your second question, I did not realize your phone was Locked. Most people unlock their phones before doing all this stuff. I assumed your phone was already unlocked…. Which in that case using a flex that is not confirmed to not lock the phone would indeed relock the phone.

In the case of your phone already being locked… and you use one of the flexes that locks the phone that are floating around, that is say from O2 and you’re on T-Mobile.. the flex is going to lock your phone to O2. That’s why I said to be careful about which flex you get off the net. SOME flexes (Mostly Vodaphone, and O2?) have locking info in them… and using one of those flexes on a unlocked, OR locked phone it should lock the phone to Vodaphone /O2. This would be a problem if you were on T-Mobile USA…. And the unlock code is different for the same IMEI number, if say the phone was on O2 /Vodaphone, Vs T-Mobile.

It would be a real pain, if the phone got locked to a network half-way around the world.. and the unlock code you already had didn’t work anymore, as in the case you had used a flex that locked to phone to a foreign network.

Two ways it may work:

1: Coding to lock the phone based upon the IMEI, and the providers ID ,locks the phone to that network, and the unlock code is only valid for that IMEI /Provider combo.

2: Coding to lock the phone based upon the IMEI, and the providers ID does nothing but lock the phone to that network, and the unlock code is the SAME for ALL networks.

In the first case using the flex from O2/Vodaphone would lock the phone to O2/Vodaphone…. The unlock code being specific to that provider, and IMEI. As you see this would create a problem getting the code from O2/Vodaphone… You’d have to pay to have someone unlock it with an unlock clip.

In the second case, (as in number #2 above) but not really confirmed….And I think it is the way it is done….

The Unlock code remains the SAME regardless of what network the phone was originally locked to…. Let me put it another way … and this is the important part…. If say a T-Mobile USA phone was flexed using a Vodaphone flex that DID lock the phone…. The phone would be locked to O2/Vodaphone…. BUT the original unlock code would still work…. The unlock code never changing. Code is the same for all networks. The additional info in the flex locks to phone to that network… But the unlock code is the SAME, regardless of what flex locked the phone. Once code is entered the Vodaphone lock is released, and the Phone could be used on the T-Mobile USA network once again.

Hope you understand all that and I hope I got it all right.

BTW: If anyone has say flexed , or used O2/Vodaphone? monster pack and has had their phone locked to them, and your on another network… and you entered your original unlock code and it unlocked the phone again please feel free to post the details.

I myself have NOT mistakenly used a flex from another network and relocked my phone…. I hope the coding to lock the phone is based solely upon the IMEI, and that the providers ID does nothing but lock the phone to that network, and the unlock code is the SAME for ALL networks.

But let me confirm one thing with you.
1. In the case of IMEI /Provider combo, as you said, if I have one copy of current flex with lock on T-mobile, then I can apply it to my re-lock phone again.
Then the lock will change back to T-mobil so my IMEI unlock code should be able to work again. Right?

2. A lot of IMEI unlock site out there. Could I know which site you use to unlock your phone? I think about to unlock my V180 phone.

I already had my local phone dealer to unlock a V220 with cable.
but I think about to unlock another V180 phone with IMEI method.

In the case of re-lock, then most likely I can use IMEI unlock to unlock my phone again.

Had the same problem, and also tried the Motokit option Fix Ringtone Detail.
I can change the details from all the styles, except from Vibrate. I have tried the way as you explained above, tried PST, setting everything to 0, but I still cant get into Vibrate details.
Any other suggestions besides flexing??

I found both of these to be buggy and yield unpleasant results [it can depend of course on circumstance such as what other features/settings you have enabled/disabled].

Finally tried PST to fix ringstyles detail by creating a NEW FEATURE FILE and setting all to zero. Worked great with no side effects.

One of my family is using Cingular USA. The dealer told us the same thing that after 90 days I should be able to call Cingular Customer Service and unlock my phone.

2. Second one said, YES after 180 days we can unlock your phone for internation roaming only. Cingular phone won't accept any other Network provider SIM card except Cingular.

BTW, Is there any people in this Forum using Cingular and have request them to give you the unlock code already.
If YES, how you request hem to unlock?
They drive me crazy. That why my family went to the local dealer to unlock it with cable.

Did exactly as you described, no more, no less. As I said before, I can change all ringstyle details, except for Vibrate, that one keeps me kicking back to the previously menu.
Used PST as you described, powercycled the phone, deleted mytonedb and temptonedb, using P2Kman, powercycled again, and still no luck with the Vibrate details.
I made a backup with Motokit two weeks ago, no flex, but a normal one. I will try to restore that one, in the hope that it will solve my prob, I'll get back to you...

Here's a little tip, "Dealers” will tell you ANYTHING (in some /most cases) to "get" the sale.

Here's a thread about Cingular that may give you some info:

Hey one more idea, I don't know if when unlocking with a cable" a printable /viewable code is displayed, but if it is you need to request a code when the phone is unlocked.

I would assume if a PC is used, or the unlocking device has a display a code "may" be viewable depending on how advanced the software /hardware is.

If you have any more questions about unlocking,etc Please post them in the thread linked to above so this thread can get back to issues with MotoKit !

Cuurently I use Motokit to backup a flex for my V180/V220 and it work perfectly,however, sometimes I will try to upgarde flash of my phone. Can Motokit backup a flash(firmware) or any people know what software and where I can get a copy of flash backup software.

MotoKit cannot backup a FLASH.

Around this time last year (On the Vxxx series) there was only flashing and flexing… If you say flexed your phone with a providers flex from half-way around the world most of the time certain features wouldn’t work right. You had to pick which flex offered the greatest advantages with the fewest trade offs. Then came SEEM editing which allowed you to edit the SEEM within the Flex already installed on the phone. That was a HUGE advance.

Now has come Motokit, which allows you to not only backup a flex, but also break the flex into the component pieces. This is alos a huge advance. (Kudo’s and Many thanks to Kempsun, the author of this program!)

The one thing Motokit does NOT do is backup the FLASH.

AFAIK at this time there is NO software out there that can fully back up a flash…. The only program I could think of may be Victor GSM, but I haven’t used it since PST works for me doing flashing , and flexing…

BTW: If anyone knows of a program to back up the flash, feel free to post back otherwise.

Well, that was strange, the vibrate files were still there, I selected those in the Loud style to check it out, and they worked just fine, checked all the files with my backup files, and they were the same, so no missing vibrate files, but I am as happy as can be

One other thing, I tried to make a flex backup, using Motokits Flex Creator. It will add all files succesfuly, except for the MMS Template files, tried it a couple of times, but it gives a Fail error with the templates. A normal Motokit backup works just fine, including the MMS templates.
Can anyone confirm if this is normal??

My New V180 have the same problem when I use Motokit to flex creator. However, if I used backup/restore, it copies sucessful.
Becuase I don't use mms, I don't care.

When you tell it to do a backup, it seems to backup each and every file from the phone - it doesn't backup the flex info?

I had been having similar problems with my v551, would connect to MPT, but nothing else, finally what ended up working, on someone's advice in this thread, was:

1) unplug the phone
2) remove all instances of the phone through the control panel "phones and modems"
3) run MotoKit
4) Plug in the phone
5) When it asks for drivers, explicitly say the p2k drivers in the program files\motokit\drivers folder
6) hopefully it works

Backup=backups the files, and I think the seems (Check to be sure on the seems)

The flex option in MotoKit makes a flex, I.e puts all those files, and seems into (1) file.

Just in case the "pictures that are linked to showing the program go down... (and they will one day-happens all the time, links to files, pictures, programs, etc go stale)

If you want to change MotoKit to English, Open the program> At the very top it says: MotoKit Suit –[Kempsun.com].. right below that, right below the title bar are 5 small tabs…. The one you want is the third one over from the left, in Chinese it starts with a “P”… Which means “Options” in English, anyhow it should be right below Kempsun depending on your screen resolution…. Expand it, and the second link down will say 1033 US English…. Toggle that on, and most of the program is in English.

v300 nothing fancy modified., just deleted images/mod'd startup/shutdown/continuous screen...that's it...engineering menu although i dont' know what that does. oh and data counters...I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE'S ALL THAT AVAILABLE..and those criminal phone companies default lock it out so you are clueless as to how big your bill will be at the end of the month!!!

Yes, everyone sees a snippet of the HELLOMOTO startup before their custom startup graphics 'kick in'.

xlr8's info on disabling the MOTO startup does not disable the 'snippet' in question, only allows you to see your custom startup following the snippet as oppose to the original startup.

Look for P2KTools,
Alot more user friendly.
It has alot of straight forward functions. Like gain table editing, custom outer screen name, and such.

For the the menu icon thing go to: Personalize> Main menu> hit select and choose Icons. That's how it is on my phone atleast

I don't think that's what he's talking about. I believe his problem is that no matter if he chooses LIST or ICONS, the menu shows as LIST.

Again, there is tonnes of threads regarding this issue. And it all comes down to the number of menu items you have. Anything other than exactly 9 items, you will only see LIST.

So if you were messing with MotoKIT, sure enough you probably tried the VIDEO/ENGINEERING script...and ended up with 8 menu items. You say you read this entire thread, well I'm sure I mention here in one of my posts that you should avoid this script as it will mess up your menu.

What you can do is either try uploading original/working MMA files back to the phone OR use "P2K Menu Editor" to add/remove main menu items to achieve exactly 9. Also make sure 'ANIMATION' is OFF.

Please let's try to post non-motokit related issues in other/new threads and keep this on topic.

IMO they rate like this p2kman>p2ktools>Motokit

I have tried the backing up process in p2ktools but it wasnt as easy as the motokit 1 n it does it only for the seems The motokit does it even for the java applications

As for why i dont like it well i guess i've gotten used to hex editing n using p2kman so will stick with it

But 1 thing i dont get with Motokit is i see this screen each time i exit it !!!!

It was something to do with some kind of registration or something to that effect. It's nothing. Don't worry. per Kempsun. He mentioned it someware in this thread.

specifically the ones that are mentioned when you're modifying ringers and stuff? 0032 I think and another one?

you know I really liked this program...but in all honesty something didn't work perfectly when I did it.

I didn't do any flash/flexing...all I wanted to do was change outer lcd/change to continuous/remove carrier/and delete extra ringers.

I didn't change all ringers to silent before doing anything so when I did it it would kick me out of the menu. I did the fix vibrate and phone detail option in motokit., and that allowed me back into the menus...but when I went to allocate ringers., it would kick me out. hehehe.

I did a full restore..but it's still not 100% ringer feature isn't perfect....still kicks me out at times. funny. anyway.

I GUESS ANY MOTOROLA SERVICING WILL BE REFUSED NOW WONT' IT? heheeh meh at least I paid 0 fior the phone.

the phone does work mind you. called myself and it works on low and loud modes. so I'm happy. I'm thinking since I took the plunge I may as well start trying flashing/flexing.

can anyone explain what happen...or has it happened to anyone else

(this is no way saying it IS the programs fault...or it was deliberate, but as a cautionary note.)

ha...almost anything you download or run has "malicious software" just 'authorize all future occurrences' or whatever the option is. happened to me to.

thats ok then....as long as i'm not the only one, i know it's not a problem. i STILL use it anyway... i'll just rebuild PC if it was serious enough to do damage.

yes confirm-even with full restore. the startup scheme is missing the audio ( I dont 'care about that really ) and the menu's for ringtones are screwed. It kicks me out.

The inner display is no problem with motokit. But make sure you back up the seem just in case you can't put the date back later. Seem 01a8_0001

well it's not working.

I did xlr8's thingy but nothing. I installed his display date/nothing/custom one and they all look the same.

I did the motokit edit to gprs to DISPLAY NOTHING...but it still displayed the date?

now a new icon has appeared in the uppermost taskbar...if you will. strange hehehe.

In Europe you can get a dual SIM chip,

You have a personal line, and a business line in one phone.

Icon lets you know what line is calling, so you know how to answer it. Looks like a little phone handset with a 1 or 2 besides it.

I'm are there a bunch of seem files that are within the directory-but which aren't visible with motokit?

I'm only using motokit...so I haven't seen any seem files-which is baffling me.

if I can't see them...how come I can edit custom edit/upload them with motokit? am I doing something wrong?

You did nothing wrong. Think of Seems as Hidden Programing files. You don't see them but they are there running in the backround. But they can be downloaded hexed and put back. Motokit was designed to do it for you as well as other things it is more advanced then alot of the p2k programs out there. But like I have said in the past. It can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you use/don't use it right.

well firstly, I'd like someone to tell me what exactly does engineering menus do? and whre are they?

2ndly the reason the menu is in a list., is because you have <9 items. I haven't actually tried adding a 9th back..but if it doesn't work...you'll have to restore.

i have kind of a dumb question.. i turned up the volume on my friends phone v300 with this program. before i just used p2kman and did the edit with hex so i figured id try this program out..
i go into volume, turn up the earpiece a couple notches.. push ok and its saved back to the phone? did it redo the attribute so it wont get deleted if he resets the phone? i dont see any buttons to upload files to the phone so im guessing its saved on the phone and not the drive?

well YAH! that's the whole ponit. whenever you modify something, you need to (in the spirit of unSTALLing a windows machine) restart the "computer"/phone. master reset. right?

it's only if you RESTORE that things go back to normal-mind you in my experience not 100% normal-but pretty damm close.

well I tried opening up motokit, THEN CONNECTING my v300...and it gave the the usb device has malfunctioned bubble. This has happened about 3 times since I've used motokit. Dunno if it's a coincidence..usually end up having to

1) remove all modems if multiple
2) master reset
3) select NEW PHONE in MPT.

and that settles it

Well I'm having this EXACT problem with my V220 and oh boy have I been busy trying to get it to work.

I own 3 computers and get the EXACT problem on all 3. All 3 are winxp sp1.

Here's the scoop....

I can plug the phone in, install the drivers. Works fine with Mobile Phone Tools. As soon as I run Motokit, p2kman, pst, that's it. Goes from the modem tab in device manager to USB tab and says it's a USB Device that failed to start... Code 10...

I'm a PC Tech, it's what I've done the past 15 years of my life. So I read all 22 pages of this thread in hope of finding an answer. I've tried everything suggested.

I went to another PC and didn't install mobile phone tools. All I installed was Motokit, loaded Motokit, installed the drivers in motokit's directory, Same thing. Shows up as Motorola USB Modem and after I hit Finish it sounds like it stops the device and fails when trying to start it back up. It makes the sounds like I pulled the USB cable out, then plugged it back in, then pulled it out twice. And that's it. Code 10. Failed to start device.

As soon as I close the software and unplug/plug the usb cable back in. It loads fine. As soon as I load any of the noted software above, bam. Back to "Device failed to start"

I have 3 different drivers with 3 different dates on my main pc. 1 from Motokit, 1 from mobile phone tools, 1 from PST. All 3 work fine for mobile phone tools, none will work with any of the other programs.

Like I said I tried it on 3 different computers, my main has a 4 port usb 2.0 card, so I tried it on a USB2 device. I tried multiple ports on all 3 computers and get the exact problem all the time.

I'm currently installing SP2 on one of the other machines even though I think SP2 is the devil. Hopefully windows will boot when it's done. Maybe that's all I need to get this to work. I guess we'll see. In the meantime, any help is greatly appreciated.

PS: If you LOOK at the link itself, notice the last part of it after kempsun.com.... Notice the part referencing “Motokit”.... The directory is Motokit... Not Motokit 1.06, just Motokit... which should mean that any updated programs would appear in that directory. "Motokit".

little bug i've found

when i remove the carrier logo, it shows the date instead

and my shortcut keys no longer function. The up/down keys go to my address book, and the left/right keys control the volume.

as soon as i put the operator logo back on the date disappears and my shortcut keys work fine *shrug*

also is there anyway to change the settings of the shortcut keys? once i flashed the flex to the modded version on motomodders there is no longer the option to change the keys around.

sorry to sound like such a noob but I decided I'd try this program out last night and it works very well. I enabled the engineering menus and deleted a lot of the Cingular crap from my V3 so now I have much more memory. I also wanted to change the outter display from the Cingular jack to a custom picture of my choice. I managed to change it the the default motorola logo but I can't seem to get my custom picture to display. I gave the picture the correct name and put it in the correct directory which is a/mobile/system/ but it still will not display. Could someone point me in the right direction please. Oh yeah and I read every page in this thread if I missed something I'm sorry.

Be sure you reduce the pic to the correct size; (96x80) for some reason, if it is any bigger it wont work. I figured it out the hard way.

oh I didn't know it was 96 x 80. I took note of the size of the orignal picture with was 96 x 96.

Edit: well I tried that and it still won't take my custom picture.

Are you saving the pic as a .gif?
The name of the pic is just "cl"

So you name the pic "cl" and save it as a .gif not as a .jpg

nope...after you change the picture do you have to restart the phone from MotoKit? I know when I added pictures using the explorer (or deleted) the results were right away with no restart. Also I wonder if it has anything to do with turning on the engineering/video menus since then even when I delete the cl.GIF file I still have the motorola logo. I tried to turn it off it seemed like it worked but it didn't I even did a master clear and reset to see if I could get it back.

EDIT: well after trying that a few times it did work. I just used paint to change my file to GIF should I use adobe or some other program?

No, I use PAINT all the time for converting files. it's sinple and does the job.

hmmm for some reason paint just won't work for me. Once I used photoshop to convert the file to GIF from BMP it worked just fine...hmm very odd indeed.

I wonder though.. why is this not stickied yet?

I mean since it CAN save your OEM flex files. (Like T-Mobile)

and is MUCH more user friendly for ALL common tasks that everyone wants to do.. even delete the locked files and so.. plus startup stuff etc.

Just saying.. shouldnt this post be stickied and used more often vs saying seem edits?
