Hi, I've just bought a VX6100 to replace my vx4400. I bought a USB cable for the new phone and downloaded BitPim, ready to transfer my downloaded stuff to the new phone and join this brave new direct-access world. Problem is, BitPim documentation emphasizes that the vx4400 can't be accessed with a straight USB cable, it needs the Serial-USB one with the decoding chip. I've looked all over the web, every listed vendor, as well as eBay... I can't find them for sale anywhere (except as a $30 "kit".) Does anyone have an old one they want to sell for a couple of bucks, or a suggestion of where I can pick this thing up?

Did you buy all the stuff on your 4400 through GIN? If so call and they will give you the credits to get it on your new phone. I m pretty sure anyway. They do it when you get a new phone because of warranty issues.

i dont think there is a cable that exists for it yet.

Try futerdial cables, and if they dont have one mabye the vx6000 cable will work (only if it has the same size data port, idn cause ive never really looked carfully at a 6100)

The VX4400 games won't work on the VX6100 anyway.

The only thing I want to download before I switch are my ringtones, but after I start using the new phone I want plan to keep the 4400 as a backup if the new one breaks or is lost. That's why I need a cable to be able to bring my (future) phonebook and stuff back to the 4400.

Thanks, folks, I was able to find the cable. It turns out that even though the Radio Shack website doesn't list it as available, the stores themselves stock it! It wasn't cheap, but it worked.
