I've been working on my friends 8900, she just got a data cable and the software she bought for it spending $30 (futuredial) is worthless. .it basically says that the phone isnt supported yet and she can do nothing. I've tried both bitpam and brewsky 8900.. with bitpam i can't even get connected at all, just error messages. I got connected once with brewsky and sent her a tone and it worked but it erased all of her previous ring tones. Now I cant connect with brewsky again. It just won't connect. Can someone provide some assitance?

Thanks in advance.

ok.. bitpim lets me get into file system but nothing else

i know i'm using com port
she has windows xp
audiovox 8900 / verizon

thanks again

all you can do with bitpim is go to the filesystem. try this:

open bitpim, and connect.
close bitpim.
open brewsky and connect.

i ended up figuring that out purely by accident but wow..

your welcome?

it works because bitpim puts the phone in brew mode.

If you want to skip using bit pim all you have to do is type ##7678 (PORT) and hit end. You will get a menu that says diag and data. select data and set it to USB DATA. Then just make sure you have the right COM port selected and click connect. Make sure you back up your ring tones because it will usually erase them before it loads what you have selected. Thats the easiest way I have found to do it.

I just got all my stuff today, I connected my phone to the cable after I installed all the drivers and nothing will work. It takes like 10 minutes to download db/download_snd.txt and still doesnt go anywhere in progress. Port 3 is the only one that works on connect, but it says error after I do anything. The cable I bought off of ebay. Am I doing something horribly wrong? Bitpim wont work either. If someone could shoot me an answer I'd be greatful. Thanks everyone

First find out what COM Port the phone connects on. To do this click the start button>Control Panel>System>Hardware tab>Device Manager. In the Device manager click the + next to Ports (COM & LPT) If you are using the curitel drivers it should say Curitel Packet Service Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM) (COMX) where X is the COM number. now connect your phone and make sure windows recognizes it as curitel hardware (look for the bubble to pop up out of the right side of the task bar) Type in ##7078 [END] on your phone. you will see a menu come up that has diag and data. Go to diag and select USB DIAG now go to data and select USB DATA. Close the phone. Now open Brewsky 8900 and select the COM you found earlier. Click Connect. It should work.

I type in ##7078 and hit end, then nothing happens. I get no screen or anything, no menu etc. The menu should appear on my phone I take it. Any suggestions? Do i just punch the numbers in and hit end like i've been doin, or do i like hold somethin down? Thanks guys

Sorry it's ##7678 [END]

Awesome. I'm connected and all to brewsky and I can see what files I have and try to send some of my .mp3 ringtones. The only problem I have is that when I send the ringtone (including the buddy holly) it goes to uploading, then the completion bar is full, but nothing happens. It still says Uploading user/sound/whatever and doesnt say done. Any suggestions again? I appreciate your help crash

Nevermind, it took like 3 minutes but it worked!!! Thanks so much guys! Now I just have to figure out how to get more than like 3 seconds for each song on the ringtone

thanks to everyone for all your help.. is there anything i can do about the fact she lost all her tones or the fact she has to upload all of them each time she uploads a new one.. OR the fact that everytime she does she has to reset all her ringtones OR the fact that her default is set to something but rings one of those horrible ones that come with the phone.

thanks again

im able to get about 10 seconds by changing it to mono and a low bitrate

i really wish i knew how to make it so she didnt have to reset her ringers every time.. someone know?

I just installed my new faceplate, it was easier than I thought it would be and looks awesome. I've looked around on the board for some help with music editing. I want to make my songs (.mp3 ringtones) last more than like 5 seconds. I have cool edit pro and I've looked around in it. Can someone tell me how to get the songs so they are like 15 seconds long? Like where is the option to get out of stereo and use mono? And is there a way to make the ringer louder at all? Thanks guys!
