SMT 5600 Owners - Help!

I've owned this phone for a few weeks now and I am impressed with how sweet it is. However, I have noticed something sort of bothering about it. Maybe it's just mine, but if anyone else has noticed this, please chime in.

I leave my phone on 24/7 and only do the occasional reboot when things get goofy. I've noticed with the 5600 that after about 3-4 days of solid operation without a reboot, the screen starts to get a slight flicker (for lack of a better word). It's more noticable when the phone is loading a WAP page or processing data. The easiest way to spot it is to bring up the calendar and switch to month view. Look at all the lines on the screen and see if you see any interference or flickering. It's easily solvable with a reboot, but still somewhat annoying.

I rarely power mine down either and have not experienced your problem. Other than the possibility of a defect, do you use a task manager (or the built in memory manager) to fully shut down any applications you're through using? In case you weren't aware of this, the Windows smartphone OS never fully exits out of an application when you leave it or switch screens. You my have a problem app running in the background that you thought had shut down. Or you could have several apps running and totally maxed out your memory (though I don't know if this would cause screen flicker). Powering down would clear out your memory. This is the only thing I can think of at the moment. Hope it helps.

I'll also say my phone rarely gets restarted and it's never off as I have no landline. I've had it over 2 months and have not noticed anything like you describe.

Only problem I have had is dust under the screen.

Go into the resource management folder and select task manager. then stop running all apps. This should fix your problem and increase your batt length.

Oops, didn't mean to sound like such a noob. I am very familiar with the Windows Mobile OS and have the task manager set to my 1-touch #9 button. I don't have any extra tasks running. It just seems that something over the course of a few days causes slight interference on the screen. Of course, it's only noticable when you look really closely. But now that I've noticed it, I can't ignore it

what you describe in the monthly calendar screen i can attest to. i've noticed that for a while, but don't know what causes it...

Basically the vertical lines "vibrate" a little...

Yup, this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. If you look closely you can notice it in other apps as well. On yours, if you reboot will it not do it for a few days?

You should power cycle your phone off for about 30 seconds each day. this will ensure that if there is an update from your carrier that your phone will receive it.

Unfortunately I doubt there's any updates for this phone at all... T-mobile doesn't sell it and Cingular doesn't for the moment unforunately. Any OTA update would be network related and thus wouldn't help this. If you really see it becoming an issue, I just dealt w/ Audiovox (now UTStarcom) on Thursday and they were very helpful/quick. My battery (we believe) is defective and they sent out a new one right away. I'm sure they'd be willing to replace your phone. Unfortunately, you woud likely need to pay to re-unlock it (not sure if they come locked). Florin might be able to make an exception and give you another go at it too... Not sure though.
