SMT 5600 Charger

Has anyone figured out how to charge via the USB cable w/o active sync? The last I heard, you had to short some pins. There's got to be a better way. How does the home charger do this? Is there a chip in there?

I've got a bunch of devices that can be charged with USB (GPS, Axim, rf transmitter, and GB Advance) USB charging is the greatest idea in a while. All I need is one plug for my car and just the connectors for each of the other devices...except my 5600.

Thanks for any help. I may break down and get the MPX200 charger, but finding that is even challenging.

I'm getting the silicone jacket and want to know if anyone has tried out the Martin Fields car usb adapter? I want to make sure this has the necessary chip in it to allow the SMT to charge. Thanks

Pins 4 and 5 are grounded to the plug...

Because the pins are grounded that it WILL work? Will it still work for other USB chargable devices? Thanks

If you ground pins 4 and 5, it will only act as a USB charger, and grounding them will disable data transfers.

Why not just disable the USB option is Activesync?

Because it sounds like he has multiplel USB data devices that would connect via Activesync, and instead of causing a conflict devices, he just wants to power several devices from his computer without them actually being connected.

Actually, I just want to charge these other devices in my car. They don't use activesync. All of these devices can be charged with a cigarette to USB plug and its specific cable. My question is whether the MartinFields cigarette to USB plug which has the 4 and 5 pins grounded will correctly charge my other devices.

How do you go about grounding these pins on a USB cable? TIA

FYI, the martin fields charger does not work nor do the ones on ebay. At least without grounding pins 4 and 5.
