6255 truetones problem

I got a Nokia 6255 phone and I have no problem to listen to the songs in mp3...But I can't set them as ringtone (when I try it says: file invalid) . They told me (nokia) that it has support for ringtones in mp3. But I don't know what do I have to do to set them.
Are there any program (editor) That I can use to make it work?

Does anybody know something about the Retro Folio 1.0 software??

I know nothing of retro folio.

I used PC suite to push an Mp3 from my PC to my 6255. It is set as my ringtone and works everytime.

In my experience, you can set it as a normal ringtone, but not as a caller ID ringtone.

This is the exact problem I'm trying to solve now. Someone please respond if they have any clue on how to set a custom mp3 ring tone from: "\Gallery\Music files". That's some pretty shotty programming if you can set mp3s as main ringers but not as custom tones

also, I do know that you can add a single person to a group and then assign an mp3 ringer to that group, but that's not an acceptable workaround because there are only *5* groups!!

Anything new on this?

I'd like to setup a downloaded ringtone (which works perfectly) as a "custom tone" on a contact on the 6255.

If not through the phone menus, can you move the ringtone files around using the PC Suite so it would appear in the list with the standard tones?

Thanks

I am also confused as to why this is not available.
I did assign each group a different ringtone but other phones I've had (LG6000VX) allowed you to customize each contact with a different ringer.
It is cool that you can assign multiple voice recognition numbers within contacts.

Doing some reading up, past Nokia owners say they have never been able to set mp3's as individual caller ringtones. Just for groups or as the main tone. Just they way they design them I guess.

I wouldn't have bought the phone if I knew it had this issue. Nokia's really behind the times on their software considering the technology present in their phones. Oh well, my girlfriend really likes the phone, so I guess I'll give it to her and get an e815 or go back to my CDM-9900.

I'm having the same problems not being able to set an MP3 tone as an individual ringtone, but there has just got to be a way, I also would not have purchased this phone if I would have knows this was an issue with the phone. If anyone ever figures out a way around this let me know ASAP!
Thanks

Yep, I'm thouroughly disappionted with the software on this Nokia phone. Even my old LGVX6000's software blows this out of the water, while my CDM9900's software was light years ahead as well. Hopefully with the release of the 6256's on VZW, someone will figure out a fix for this.

It just sucks now because if I take this phone off my account VZW will NEVER reactivate it because of their Nazi-arse policies. Guess I'll just wait until I destroy it like all my other phones and get all its worth out of it

I've been have trouble finding a good FAQ and compilation of all the VZW Nokia 6256i (Nokia 6255i too) info that must have gleaned by now. Glad to hear it suppoprts MP3 play. Want to put some itunes music on a 2 GBchip and listen. Is it possible with a MacG4 PantherOS X ?

Bought a VZW Branded 6256i 2 days ago, from RS sales person who won them from Nokia Corp.

I'm pretty bummed about having to downgrade the 100 voicedial locations and huge number of caller ID ringtones on my current handset (VD didn't work all that reliably) to the Nokia 6256i's 25 Voice Dials. And only 5 caller groups. Time to lower my expectations, instead of wondering forever why they couldn't expend a little more energy and make the address book great???
It's not what I wanted but, suppose that my callers can be classified into groups according to how how likely I would be to taking a call at any given time. I'll make the given ringtone ID system work for me the best I can. But it's not like Nokia didn't have enough space or processing power..grrrr!

What I want is the debug codes, the programming codes for the 6255i. The WAP entry procedure and if 2.0 makes any diference for free WAP access?
I have working proxies if needed.
And any links to any site where info gets compiled with an efficient search for the Verizon Nokia 6255/6256i tricks and tips.

I bought the phone for the reception, which I still haven't tested. Should have some tests done htis weekend with other top digital/analog performers, to prove to myself, it holds up to the hope and past Nokia performance.

Looks like at least some fun with media, if I can get the 6526 working well with my Mac. The $30 D-Link bluetooth modual, works more smothly than anything else has in a long time... so far, just have to get a a storage chip and learn to manipulate music and pictures around. Have a feeling they must have done something to limit the MP3 function.

thanks,
Sid

Here's some useful info, I hope, but still scattered.

Good job, PhoneDirector works with my (not) supported Nokia 6255i, a CDMA phone. Most people don't usually bother to support this, but this is the only app that does, even though its not supposed to.

yes, it sucks that individuals cannot have their own unique ringtone. This is actually present on all past nokia CDMA phone models. Good news is, anything past the 6255 has the ability to do that. I believe Nokia has recognized and corrected the mistake.

The Mp3 player is limited. It will only recognize 200 tracks, even if you have 400 on your 2GB card. The phone has no issues with reading the full 2GB on the card, but the player will only show 200 tracks. This made me just a little irritated, more so than the lack of individual ringtones. That was expected...
