Hi Folks!

This might be old news, but...

spoke to Vodafone to buy Sharp 902sh and was told it has been quarantined due to software issues.

Maybe back on shelf on February 7th!

Any ideas what's it all about?

Yes,t hat would be awful! This is the first mobile in the UK that I have seen that actually will display an email from Japan.

All others, including the S-E v800 so it seems, gives the message 'invalid character set'

I get nothing but 'invalid character set',

but I do pair my K700i with a Tunsgten T3 and use a J-OS and Iambic email software and I can receive and send perfectly in Japanese. I can enter the Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana quite easily but the nuisance is carrying two devices!

So frustrating! Just think how much space it would need on the Vodafone UK computer, to store the Japanese 902sh firmware for those who want it! Hardly any space at all!

i know! but i've figured out that it works if i send an e-mail message using my e-mail client on my computer in japanese, it works - even in kanji... but if i try it on hotmail, it doesn't work.

however, as i said, my gf could send me mail in japanese, and receive in japanese from my e-mail client to the mobile no problem. at least one problem solved.

I use Outlook Express with Japanese as the default.

What are your Hotmail menu's set to? English or Japanese?

I changed mine to Japanese from the options settings and I can now send and receive with my Hotmail in Japanese.

To your mobile? What mobile do you have ? And it's a UK model?

Interesting!

nono. to her mobile, i mean. so i can type japanese from my e-mail client to her mobile, and she could e-mail me back japanese from her mobile to my e-mail client... whenever i try to get her to send msg's to my phone (motorola v3, uk model), it comes out as question marks. i don't even get the "invalid character set" warning.

interesting indeed!

i've just set my hotmail to japanese looking forward!

I thought that was so. Same as for me. Only time ever I received a 'email/sms' to my UK mobile from a Japanese PC or mobile was by using and o2 service called mmail.

The adress for the mmail was my mobile number@mmail.co.uk

I would write it as a sms with the persons email address as the beginning of the text message!

I think it should work. I can send a mail from my Hotmail to yours if you want me to.

I also type Japanese in MSN but I am sure you do that already!

I think Japanese font support will stay put, I think it's just a side effect of the Japanese firmware which was likely developed before the EU firmware.

I think the quarantine is realted to a firmware bug that causes slow browsing on Vodafone UK's live! portal...
