If a phone gets blacklisted because it was stolen will it still work or does it have to be unlocked???

You are one inquisitive person Very good
Are you refering to GSM looted phones ?

Posted by: drunkgoat

yeah, GSM phones, once they have been reported stolen and they dont work with a working sin cartd, what can you do?

Posted by: AdmiralAK

If that is true then why the heck black market (stolen) phones work if you pop a new active SIM in them ? (so long as the phone is not locked)

Posted by: torontonian2001

There is a worldwide list of blacklisted phones maintained by all GSM providers. When the phone is reported stolen, it cannot be used worldwide, no matter how many new SIMs you buy.

No one seems able to answer me this:
Can the SIM peek into your hardware and send info to the provder, yes or no ?

i've read that whenever you turn on a phone, it sends the SIM card number and IMEI number to the provider. it was from some website so who knows if it that is accurate info.

it also said that the provider needs to register or something with the universal database and that not all of them do, so even if the phone is stolen/report/blacklisted, if the provider isn't registered with the database, the phone is still usable.

I wanna beat by head on a brick wall
IF the provider is NOT registered with that database, you cannot use that provider's SIM ??? lol :P this sounds untrue!

Also, if providers know what your IMEI is, why the heck do they keep asking me "whats is you IMEI sir?" when I called VS to unlock my phone ? eehh ??

VS just wants to make sure that they give you the right code, and that you have the right phone.
