Just got my p910a and have a small Problem

Well I did it. I switched from verizon to cingular and bought myself a p910a got a great deal on it also 400.00 with a 1 year contract, thanks to my friend. Well from what i have seen and done with the phone i love it it really is a cool phone better than mu samsung i600 by far. The carrying case leaves something to be desired but i already have ordered a Martin Fields casr so i hopefully will get that next week. Now on to the problem! When i got the phone yesterday it synced up fine with my computer no problems really. So i decided to go to SE website and just to see if there is a firmware update for my phone(just because i bought it yesterday doesn't mean it was made yeasterday) and to my surprise there was an update so i decided to update it! The problem is now since the up date i can not sync with my computer!! I have called SE and have done everything they have said 30 times over. Uninstall then reinstall, disabled the friewall and virusscan, down load the new sony pc suite, master reset reinstall everything and nothing, nothing happens i cannot sync with outlook for anything!!On my system tray it shows the two arrows and that it is connected it just doesn't find the phone i am truly at wits end i dont know what to do!! I love the phone this is just a minor setback but i would like to know what happend, and how to fix it. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

There is an option to format your disk. Try formatted, master reset and re-update. I would recommend trying another machine to see if it'll work.

I'd say do a master reset and try another pc as well. My phone seems to be partial to one of my computers.

By the way the Martin Fields case is really good. It's the only other case aside from the " clear glove " like case that I use.

I did all of that already. I have 2 computers at home and on both of them i have the same problem!! It shows it is connected to the computer but it just cannot find the phone. I master reset the phone twice still no luck.The sony reps say that it is the computer but since i tried to sync on both of my computers and i get the same problems i dont think it is my computers. And where is the opition to format the disc?

It's the same menu as you will find the firmware version, calibration tests, etc etc.

If its been with X amount of days, I would take it back to where you bought it to do an exchange. Otherwise time to send it to SE for them to troubleshoot.

If you just got the phone, go back to where you bought it and do an exchange. SE doesn't have a phone exchange program like that. you will have to send it in and wait 10-14 days like everybody else.

Well when i called back SE they gave me an interaction number and we ready to take tell me how to ship the phone,but the cs agent wanted me to try syncing up my phone with my other computer before i send it back.So I tryied to syanc it again with no firewall on no pop up blocker etc and still no good! Now this is on 2 computers i tried. When i called back i spoke to a different cs rep. and she found out that two other people have called in about the same problem so they opend up a ticket and now are going to tech specialists they said they will get in touch with me in 24- 48 hours. So lets see what they say!

P.S. Just want to say there was no sarcasm intended in the earlier post i was just surprised oh what is happening with a new phone.

P.P.S I still love the phone!

Like I said, if you just got the phone, return it to the dealer that you bought it from to avoid all this hassle.

I agree with mobilezen, I say return it and get another one from the dealer before the return deadline is up. Let sony ericsson deal witht he problem.

The problem is the cell phone store i bought the phone from had to special order the phone for me so i do not think they have it in stock. The SE tech called me back today and i went thru the usual routine of shutting the firewall etc, etc still no go. He then said that it was very very odd what is happening cause it should work.He is sending me a new sync station cause he thinks that maybe the culprit that something maybe wrong with the sync station. He said when i get it to try it out and then call him back to let him know what happend and if it doesn't work i will have to send it in.

Sorry I am not able to help with your firmware update and problem and hope you can get it resolved. What I would like to know is where did you find the $400 deal? Is it available to the general public? The best I have found is $500 with a bluetooth headset and one year contract (letstalk.com)

I had exactly the same problem syncing and here is what I found out
The sync doesn't like firewalls especially Zone alarm, and you can't have palm software on your PC. I eventually got it to work by reinstalling XP and using Norton internet security. Pay attention to the read me with SE as you have to give the SE extensions privileges in Norton so they run.
SE wasn't much help with the issue but to be fair I guess it is new to them too.

The deal i got for my phone was thru a close friend of mine whom i know for years and he has worked in many cell phone stores so he helps me out when he can,usually when i want a new phone and am able to get in contact with him he always gives me great deals. When the samsung sch-i600 first came out i got it with his help for 375.00 with a one year contract! As for this wierd situation with the phone i have even uninstalled windows sp2 and still no luck, however i am thinking more and more that it truly isn't the phone but, something or somefile is being blocked or not downloaded i guess persistancy is the key. I will keep on trying to redownload the software with out the sp2 or firewall, what happens if your computer is running the mcafee virus scan by aol? Any problems with that.

Well I don't know what happend but my phone finally syncs with outlook eventhough it says that outlook is not my default email client (which it is). I tried it three times and it worked all three times. I unistalled sp2 then reinstalled it but i dont think thats what it was. There is a post here about the p910 hidden diagnostics menu. So i decided to give it a look one guy mentioned that after he did a format the phone cleared all apps and reset itself to factory specs. I figured what the heck it can't hurt i already earlier in the week did a master reset from the main menu so i thought maybe this would be alittle different. Well when i did the phone reset it said that my phone was corrupted and that it was fixing the corruption. After that i tried to sync and it worked!! Thanks for everyones help and thank God for this forum!Thank You

Here is what I suggest...
Put phone in cradle turned on...Reboot...them watch phone connection link to see if it sees the phone..if not then I would stop all firewall and virus programs...if it still doesn't work open the phone connection link and uncheck the usb box and it should say disconnected then check it again and it should connect. You can also go to Phone monitor options in control panel and try disabling and enabling. Also try reserving the com port.
Make sure your com ports are set up correctly, mine is on port 3.
Again make sure you read the read me file with the Suite CD 3.20 as it explains about the extensions the program used. I think Mrouter is the finicky one.
Before reinstalling everything I found that my 910 would be connected if it was on in the cradle when I started or rebooted but would lose the connection when I removed it and reinserted in the cradle.
