I use an iMATE Jam and like a few features. I'm considering the 650. During a call, can I take notes? Are the notes linked to the caller? I gess I'm wondering more generally if switching to another application will end the call. Next, I'm using Pocket Explorer to access this site. Other sites like T-Mobile.com immediately recognize PIE anf format pages accordingly. Is the Palm browser treated the same way? Thank you.

Yes

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here, clarify a bit?

Nope, it won't. You can hit Menu & mess around with your calendar or notes or whatever while you're talking.

As far as I know, my 650's browser is recognized as MSIE. Don't write that on my tombstone or anything, but I'm pretty sure. I was on a site a few days ago & there was a little thingy that said "You are running MSIE, .....etc" so I guess that's how sites recognize it.

This is only a test. Yes you can use the phone as such if you are so inclined to using it so.

Yes you can take notes. I think the utility called "Call Filter" allows you to have notes and reminders linked to calls. So, if you're on a call and you promise the caller you'll call them again in a few days, you can set that up automatically when you end the call. It's worth a look.

My thanks to all of you for responding. When I speak of linking notes to the call, another poster had the right idea. I was referring to creating a note that somehow has a link to the person in my address book whom I'm calling or from whom I received the call. It's not that critical. I was just curious.

On another note, which carrier are you folks using with your Treo 650? Please comment objectively on the quality of the voice calls as well as the data service in your area. Where do you use the service?

Thanks.

I use ATTWS and I'm in the Bay Area. I live in the east bay and work on the peninsula. ATTWS is the only carrier that works inside the buildings at my work and coverage is good at home. I have two areas on my commute where I routinely drop calls and my many, many times filling out the "trouble ticket" online seem to go unanswered. Besides that, though, I've been generally happy with the service. I've had the same number with them for over 10 years. I joined when it was still CellularOne.

I'm on a corporate plan. I get 800 minutes peak, unlimited off-pead and long distance, international calling/roaming for $39.99/mo. I also get 8MB data for $19.99/mo, which is used for GoodLink.

It seems that there is quite a bit of ambiguity about the actual cost for the Cingular data plan (unlimited ) for the Treo 650. I recall seeing a plan for $20 on Palm's website, but I think I saw something like $39 on Cingular's website.

It doesn't help that a number of people speak with ominous forebodings about surprises on the Cingular bills after receiving high surcharges on the Cingular's data plan. Does anyone have any definitive information on this?

I know Sprint's data service is quite inexpensive and and is apparently reliable. Of course, you don't have the option of swapping out a sim card. So, I'm thinking hard about that one.

Finally, T-Moible has this great service where their servers essentially serve as a proxy of sorts for your email. So, once you get an email, there is a text message sent to the device and you download the email from the T-Mobile server (as opposed to the ISP). Does anyone know if Cingular has a similar service?

Thanks.

If the concern about swapping a sim card on Sprint is related to your directory, Sprint has Voice Command as an optional service. One of the many VC features is your phone book is stored in a secure web based account where it is accessible to you and editabl;, so when you eventually trade up your Sprint Treo 650 for another Sprint phone(any Sprint phone not just a Treo), the phone book follows easily.

Other useful VC features include Hands Free Email that is Voice driven.

If you have Voice Command activated as an option on your Sprint plan, one of its features is the phone will read your email to you and you can Reply to email by voice (receiver gets a .wav file of your response). So if you are driving and want to check email, you don't have to read the tiny screen and punch a bunch of buttons.

VC is a $5/mo add on feature that can be shared by as many as 5 phones if they are currently sharing minutes.

VC will also read info (news, weather, sports, stocks, etc ) to you as you browse the web.

Does Cingular have the same voice command service?

Exclusive to Sprint as far as I know. Any body else know of a carrier with this feature?
