(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Here are the pics of my evolving black darling phase 2/3.. I'm in love with the big beast again..

Work in progress

No more work in progress I'm afraid, but here's a result after som intense spraying with preparation sprays and color sprays.

Left side

Back cover

The key backlight (sorry for the blurry shot)

Opened with backlight

There are still some work to be done around the little screen on the flip.

This was a bit of a challange.. I had to test different sprays and airbrushes before I found one that would suit bothe the faded area around the corners and on the back, and the shiny area with the little screen. Finally i found a great combination of preparation spray and faded black... I'm thinking about expanding it with a brushed metallic plate.. or some metallic spray.

Nice work!

Maybe you can tell us how to open the z1010?

If you want you can post your pictures at http://www.esato.com

The guide to opening the Z1010 without pics I'm afraid.
You'll of course need the T6 screwdriver.

The Z1010 is built of these parts
Outside Screen cover
Inside Screen cover
Keypad Cover
Back Cover
Battery Cover
Keypad
The phone unit with the axis folder built on.
2 Loose axis left/right end parts. (See the picture, the two small black things left of the phone)

Basically you have 4 seperatable pieces of shell, one main unit and one battery cover. Please note that you CANNOT take apart the main body part from the screen body part! You just have take apart the 4 pieces of shell from the body. Look at the picture when opened.

1. Removing Screws

1.1 The "main unit" shell
Start off by removing the battery cover. Just below where the sim card is situated, there are two obvious screws.
Now to the more difficult part. Next to the camera at the top, there are three grey rubber parts (look at the picture of the back I posted earlier) behind the smaller ones, on the left and the right, are there two more screws. Now in order to remove these you have to be careful not to damage them to much. Otherwise the phone will look really bad when you place them back.
Gently press a pencil tip or something like it on the upper part of the rubber parts. They will come out a bit, now try to pick them out by hand. Unscrew these screws. The phone won't pop or anything, so just let them be unscrewed.

Q: What is the center ruber part at the back hiding?
A: Just the inupt for placing the phone in a hands free set in the car, connecting it to the car antenna.

1.2 The Screen shell
When you open the flip, there are two rubber parts in the right and left corner, above the screen. Try the same procedure here as with the earlier ones. Unscrew the screws.
Now look at the bottom of the shell, just where it ends in the axis.
in the right and left corners there are two triangular pieces of rubber, these are more black, not grey. These are a little tricky to lift up, but try poking them a bit with a pencil and you will se them budge, use another pencil to get in between the border and the rubber. Now unscrew the screws behind them.

2. Opening the device

2.1 The "main unit"
This one's pretty easy
Open up the Memory Stick Cover and the Headset plug to get a better grip. Slowly try to jerk the two parts from eachother at the bottom using a steady grip. Try to get your nail or something in between the shell pieces. You will see a gap in between sond soon you will get them apart with a little more jerking. It will coem off fairly easy. Now the Device will make a cracking sound, but don't worry, no harm has been done. Be careful at the top where the keypad shell part is connected to the axis with a little grey piece of plastic. This is pretty solid, but be careful.
When you get them apart, stort off by lifting up the keypad shell part, and releasing it from any grip with the rest of the phone, also remove the keypad. Now remove the two loose axis parts from the axis, just slide them off to the left and the right, you get the idea when you see the construction. However remember how they are placed so that you easily can slide them back when putting the phone together.

When you ave got it of start opening the Back cover shell. Now be carefeful when you do this. Open it slowly and look in between the Main phone and the shell while taking them apart. You will se that the camera is still placed on/in the back cover, and that there will be a flat wire linking to the main phone.
Use a pencil or something to gently push out the camera from the back cover. The Camera will hang loose, so be a little careful handeling it. Voila, You have taken apart the Main Body Shell

2.2 The Screen Shell
This is a quite tricky part since the screen shells are very tightly placed to each other. On the top right/left: Use your nails and hands to try to get a nail in between the two parts..then try to kind of gently bend it open a bit, extend the crack using a screwdriver or something. Let the crack roll down the edges and around.. and suddenly the outside shell will pop of. This requires a little strength, But the device wont be hurt unless you poke the screwdriver in too deep. Just use like 3 mm of the tip inside the phone. Now when the outside shell is of, there is no problem with removing the Inside part.
BUT DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THE SCREENS!!! There will be fingerprints clearly visible which are very difficult to wash off without hurting the screen. The Outer smaller screen is fitted very loose and will pop out, but is still connected through a wire, think of this when you handle the unit without shells on.

If you feel like painting the back part of the main shell, please note that the vibrator and headphone plug still are placed in the back cover, just grip them and take them out when needed.

I bought a z1010 and had it shipped from Australia....they said its unlocked but when i put my FIDO sim card into it, it reads searching for network....how come i cant get network???

Any tips?

Posted by: diOxide

bagheria9: Sometimes the Z1010 searches for a long time before it finds the network. Try to let it search.. otherwise you can check if it might be locket by input code
>*<<*<* choose service information, and then Sim-lock
if all those little locks are open, and all numbers are 5, it's totally unlocked..

If the phone is branded like the Vodafone or 3 version of Z1010, but unlocked, it might still dislike 2G sim cards... try updating the firmware at some SE service center.. or do it yourself using a cradle and SE online update service.

If it stills doesn't work, maybe FIDO is using some other frequnce like 850MHz, not supported by the Z1010.

Posted by: bagheria9

I just found out that fido doesnt offer 900/1800 they are at 1900 so basically my phone wont get any service here....

DO u know if there is anything i can do to change the frequency? or do i have to sell the phone?
Would anyone like to purchase it from me?
Its brand new....

Posted by: diOxide

i'm afraid there is no possibility to change the frequency. Selling it is a good way out. Or hope for a 3G carrier to open up in your area soon.

HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK A Z1010 can sell for in US DOLLARS?

Posted by: diOxide

It totally depends on who you sell it to...
within the US? Then I have no Idea since no-one can use it within the US..

It's really hard do define since it is priced so differently from nation to nation, In Sweden you can buy a brand new for like 3000 SEK without a contract, which is like 440 USD, Then I would lower the price to 300 USD maybe..?

But don't use my numbers, since they apply for sweden only..
In other nations such as australia and the UK, the pricing is very different..
