I recently switched to cingular with a MPx220, and while my friends V220 shows the different towers by switching from Cingular to AT&T Wireless, the MPx220 always says Cingular. Is there any magic that can be done to have it show which network its actually using? Thanks!

Yes but you have to edit the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames
Click Values
Menu - New Value - String
Value Name=310380
Value Data=AT&T

on ur phone type:
*#**364# SEND
then hit options > RR > Cell Information > Service Cell Info > scroll all the way down and u should see mcc=___ , mnc=___. if its 310-380 then ur sitting on an attws tower. if its something else ur on cingular or tmobile. i dont know cingular and tmobile's mnc's but u can figure that out on ur own.

Chopsu3i,
I never knew that there was an engineering mode on this phone, are there any other modes of this phone that could be useful??

I tried this, assigning a name for my default cell, and it doesnt
seem to alter any of the displays? It still always says Cingular? Do you have to do anything to have the registry re-read other than a soft power cycle?

Here is quite a long topic about registry hacks for Cingular/AT&T network selection on the MPX220 which should help
