Hey everyone I recently bought a used 8900 off ebay to replace my broken LG 250. At first it worked perfectly and i was completely happy with my new phone. However last week as i opened my phone the backlighting on the main and external lcd would flicker on and off. It did this for the rest of the night until finally the next morning my backlighting did not work at all. As much as this sucks on top of that a few weeks early my phones "vibrator" quit working so it would never vibrate. Then on top of both of these after the backlighting quit the screen quit altogether and now it displays nothing at all. Now i know its an old phone but its a great phone for reception in the worst places plus I have 7 months till my contract is renewed so a new phone would be very expensive. I am wondering if anyone else ever had these problems and if so did they get them fixed and how much was it. The telus dealers always say "its cheaper to buy a new phone" but at the prices of some of their comparable phones i am begining to doubt that. If anyone could give me some input on this I would be very thankful

the ribbon started to rip and as it tore a different thing stopped working. Or it simply could have come unplugged take off the back of the phone 5 screws yes 5 and see for yourself.
Pm me if you want me to fix it.

Might also be the ribbon to the LCD itself which is a pain to change out anyways on the slide connector. 8900's are a pain to take apart on the flip side, not too bad on the main side.
And yeah there are 5 screws, one of them is under the RF port cap if I remember correctly, been a few weeks since i worked on them. 8900 is much easier internally to work on than some of the other Audiovox's though besides the LCD assembly.

im going to take it apart tonight if i have time i think something might just be loose because if i wiggle the top screen i can sometimes get something showing on the screen...no backlight on the screen however...weird....
also i bought this phone used and the battery wet pink stuff shows its been in ontact with water so the guy probly got it wet and got it working then unloaded it on me before it quit all together probly from corrosion issues im thinking

If there is water damage on the inside (will normall be a white residue on many of the components if it was water, other colors for other liquids) then you have a iffy chance of the phone working for very long anyways. But you can clear the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, just don't be too rough with it or you can bend the pins on the connector. I don't remmeber how the connector is on the 8900, been working on Samsung and Motorolla phones lately, and 8600's.
If it is a flip and slide connector, be very gentle opening it, I normally do it with a dental pick putting pressure on the middle and it pops open, but the 8900 may be the one where you pull the flip part of the connector back just a little bit before pulling it up to slide out the flex ribbon. Sorry if this isn't making much sense, hard to explain. Hopefully you can get it working though at least until your contract is up so you can upgrade phones, Audiovox is a pretty good company in phone quality on the insides when compared to Motorolla, LG, and Koyocera (sp) for the most part, even though the programming isn't as user friendly as the other companies.

Hello, i have the Audiovox 8900 phone which i love but all of a sudden both the inner and outer LCD backlights went out. I'm assuming it is probably just a simple connection. I read that there are 5 screws to take out of the back of the phone but i can only see 4 screws & so i can't open it up to try and re-connect the ribbons. Can someone please help??? Thanks.

where is the 5th screw that you have to remove to open the back of the unit??? i can't find it. there are 2 at the bottom of the phone & 2 underneath the battery. Thanks!!!

For the fifth screw, you must pull the rubber stopper out near the antenna on the back of the phone. The fifth screw is in the hole where the rubber piece is jammed into the phone.
