I don't know if this will help anyone but here is a suggestion if you want caller group ring tones (categories). It does involve a bit of setup, but after that its pretty much downhill.

When you install the ringtone on your phone, rename the files to the category name. I.e. instead of Metallica - Enter Sandman call it business.wav (yes, you won't remember what the ring tone is, but after a couple fo business people phone you, you'll probably know it after that). Once you have the ringtones entered on your phone, sort via category in contacts and then the big bad manual process of assigning ringtones per contact starts.

Once you have finished, and you want to change a ringtone, simply rename the new ringtone the caller group name and copy it onto the phone. DON'T delete the old one and copy the new one across, for some odd reason it sometimes removes that ringtone from all the contacts it was used in when you delete it, so its safer just to overwrite the existing one there because it does keep the tone.
