Problems with YIM!

Does anyone else experience problems using the free downloadble Yahoo! IM app?

In particular I've been having problems staying logged in for extended period of time. Throughout the day I'd get error messages saying that I was disconnected from the Yahoo! server and then later reconnect. OR worse, some instant messages were getting lost. My chat buddies and I are constantly asking each other if the other person received his/her messages.

I've already reported both problems to T-Mobile several times and they tell me the same thing over and over, "No ETA!" I've had my SK2 since it was first released and it has been nothing but a frustrating experience. I'm definitely not happy with my purchase and I'd advise others to stay away from the SK2 (if your primary reason is to use YIM) because no one is fixing these bugs!

It is a known problem which still needs to be fixed

It is a problem on Yahoo's end. The client disconnects you if you do not use it for a while, and then reconnects you.

If it is such a problem, switch over to AIM.. I know not the best solution, but it would work.

Yeah, I suspect the problem is on Yahoo!'s end. Perhaps I should contact Yahoo! instead since it doesn't sound like it is T-Mobile's problem.

As for the disconnect, it also happens while using the app, not only when it is idling. The network status shows connected and I'm able to browse the net.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not an AIM user, let alone have an AOL account.

I dont have an AOL account, but I use the AIM client. I would say at least 80% of my friends are on AIM. Then next most popular would be Yahoo. At home I am on a Mac, so I use iChat and it has connections with AIM and works great. Yahoo for the mac is a horrible program.. and the only reason I use that is for webcam. Otherwise, I usually have Yahoo and MSN run thru a multichat program.

But good luck getting yahoo fixed

its been going on SINCE last year, I DOUBT the situation is fixed unless THEY collect millions and millions of responses from SIDEKICK customers about the issue. NOBODY is really hollerin' @ YAHOO about the situation, they look @ selective few emails AND keep going on with there day.... THEY need to see MILLIONS of emails in order to take action;

you're welcome. I suggest just maybe signing up for a AOL SCREEN NAME, for AIM. it's free [www.aim.com] ... and tell your PEOPLEZ to hit you up there. Good Luck!

It sounds almost like Yahoo has no interest in fixing this issue. It has been ongoing since the SK II came out. AIM also has problems at times saying that it can't sign in and try again later. T-mobile's AIM and Yahoo IM support are very limited because they are 3rd party applications. Wish there was an official version of MSN for the **** thing and I would pick one up.

You can create a new screen name to use with AOL Instant Messanger directly from the hiptop.
