I doubt that

Posted by: vawireless

not really sure what they base your speed on but it's highly inaccurate.

check out this site from your treo:

http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed

my speed on sprint is:

200k file = 117 kbit/sec

Posted by: Charliemaul

Treo 650 with Cingular.

58 kbit/sec

Posted by: guncollector

Same here. 58 kb/sec with Treo 650 on Cingular (SF Bay Area).

Posted by: Hawgwarsh

treo 650 Tulsa Ok.. Speed 145 kbit/sec Max

Posted by: seaflipper

Treo 650 (AT&T) Seattle 200K file = 97 kbit sec

Posted by: guncollector

More Cingular results...

Another test, downtown SF, 78 kb/sec on Treo 650 GSM.

BTW, the previous test (2 posts above) was on the Peninsula (suburbs south of SF).

I did the 200k file, received:

80 kbit/sec
2.137s latency
21.961s d/l time

located in Menlo Park, CA (SF Bay Area)

200K files, 97Kbit on tmobile, 1 bar signal

Posted by: catchamental

Tested 2x.
1st 92 kbits/sec
2nd time 157 kbits/sec
Queens, NY area.
Qurious. is this edge speed?

Posted by: Kadin

From the 2nd site listed, the dslreports one here was my findings:

Service Provider - Tmobile - Unlocked Treo 650

112kbit/sec, 2.002s latency, 16.201s d/l time.

Not bad I think for tmobile with no Edge although I don't know how that's possible... But when I download sites, the numbers fly rather quick, a lot faster than my 56k dialup used to that's for sure.

First site I couldn't get to work.

Posted by: CheezDoodle

On Rogers in Ontario, with Treo600, 200k file results were:

1st run:
27kb/sec
3.337s latency
60.034s d/l time
2nd run:
39kb/sec
2.725s latency
42.663s d/l time
3rd run:
27kb/sec
1.999s latency
60.813s d/l time

Its highly unlikely that GPRS is giving you those speeds! I would say that a) either you're in California where EDGE is unofficially available to T-Mobile customers or b) there was a problem with the site that calculated the speed.

I did the 200 test from my office in midtown Manhattan:

95 kbit/sec

2.963s latency
18.987s d/l time

Unlocked GSM Treo 650 on Rogers
200k file

27K/B in Downtown NY on T650.... not blazing...

Posted by: cyberdude

What plan do you have? Is it the $20-25 plan or the $40 plan?
Shouldn't you be getting faster d/l speeds if you're paying the extra $$?

I have the same configuration... 650 on cingular w/ mediaworks. your phone will pick up edge before gprs, granted you live in an area that has edge coverage. if not, it will simply use gprs. you don't get only gprs speeds with the works package. hope that helps.

Thanks baaadandy

Posted by: mhedges

I have the $40/month unlimited data.... Do not have the MediaWorks... do I need that?

Posted by: cyberdude

It's one plan or the other but I have trouble distinguishing the difference.

Using the same site, I only get 4580.6 kbps. I am in Los Beach (LA Metro) with Cingular Blue.

i just tried it and i got the exact same thing (4580.6 kbps)

thats more than 5 times faster than i get with my adsl line at home.

Thought I would throw this in for fun.
TREO 180
TMO2GO using PROXY

200K File 357kb/sec
0.168s latency
4.644s d/l time

Ran it three times got in the 300s each time. Ist was a bit higher, 362 kb/sec and 3rd a bit lower at 310kb/sec. Time awas 05:10am

But at least it seemed on the consistant side. Not huge fluctuation
Getting a 270 next day or two. Will be interesting to compare.

Posted by: mhedges

Tried from home... Got 112KB... much better.

Posted by: letsgoflyers81

Tested at on Sprint work where I don't get the best reception since I'm in the basement.

200 kb file
92 kb/s
2.035 s latency
19.245 s dl time

Posted by: ilvla2

Covina, CA-126 kbit/sec

Posted by: Mykeee

Ok data sucks here at my house even though I get full reception. I'm in San Francisco, CA if that matters.

W/ the dslreports 200k test my results were the following:

First Try:
13 kbit/sec
1.667s latency
116.792s d/l time

Second Try:
18 kbit/sec
5.313s latency
88.905s d/l time

Third Try:
13 kbit/sec
2.071s latency
122.289s d/l time

SOMEONE HELP! Why's it so slow

Posted by: morar

I've been experimenting with the dslreports 200K speed test for the last week or so. I'm on the SF Peninsula.

On average I get 50-70kbs with spikes up to around 140kbs. This is using the Blazer browser.

I'm testing out the Xino browser and am finding that I rate anywhere from 180kbs to 240kbs

I don't believe that Xino can have that impact, so I'm guessing there must be some sort of caching being done that tricks dslreports.

Having said that, Xino is noticably faster to load.

Your connection speed is: 4580.6 kbps.

This is with Cingular and a Treo 650

Posted by: biamoto

200K = 122k/sec thru cingular... but my office is right under a tower!

Posted by: Mykeee

Ok, I found that right next to the balboa park bart station I get between 100-140kbps downloading even though I don't have full reception.
