Now, I know it's cool to be able to mod a phone, especially to work on a carrier that doesn't carry or support it. But from what I understand the Treo 650 doesn't have the capability to take advatage of Verizon's EV-DO network which seems like one of the main reasons to go with Verizon.
From what I've read in the forums, it seems like there's a good chance Verizon will carry the 650 in the next few months.
My question is:
If you mod one of these phones now to work on Verizon and they start carrying/supporting the 650 in the next few months, will the current phones be able to be upgraded to work with EV-DO?

The CDMA Treo 650 only works on Sprint's and Verizon's 1xRTT technology, not EV-DO. It's a hardware thing in the phone, so it cannot be upgraded.

So, if you're really concerned about data speeds it seems like Cingular is the best choice right now. Otherwise we'll have to wait and hope Verizon releases an EV-DO capable 650 sometime in the near future.

The data speeds are about the same. If you do some searches on this forum and on Treocentral.com you'll see that. I have a Sprint Treo 650 and it's pretty **** fast. The other thing you have to take into consideration is the cost of the data place. Sprint is $15 for unlimited and Cingular is $40.
