Adding Screensavers to Nokia 6620

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Where are the screensaver files stored on the Nokia 6620? I have looked and searched using Fexplorer and nothing. Probably looking in the worng place. My ultimate goal is to install some new screen saver files. When I go to Themes, select a theme, Options, Edit , Screen saver I get the same three standard screensavers, Date & time, text and ATT globe. Obviosly I'd like to load the rest of the screensavers into that directory so that I can have more options to select from. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can install them just like that. I believe there's a program that you have to install first inorder to use other images as screensavers. Besides that, it drains your battery, so I usually use the Date and Time screensaver.

Interesting. Do you have the names of any third party software that would allow you to install your own screen savers. I had heard of psiloc but I emailed them and they said that their program just installs 9 additional screensavers that they have done but it will not allow you to use their program to install your own.
Thanks

No but with Psiloc you can use a directory for rotating screen savers or use animated gifs.

never trust psiloc imo...just a warning from personal experience

really? How? I have the screen saver program from them but it can't play gif? It just says no file found. Do I have to move my gifs to a different folder?

Screensavers are embedded into themes & stored in folder with them, but to add a new one you have to create we theme. Forums.Nokia.Com has free theme tool for 6620. Powerlock program has cool additions & allows gif easily from anywhere on phone -other nice features too <check it out>

Not quite right. Someone at Nokiafree.org has created a small program that you can place on your 'C' Drive on your phone, in the folder c:\system\Screensavers\. The screensaver will actually work too!

All files you need are available here (see 6th posting by mirkocrocop --> "Screensaver files.zip". You will need to register on the forum to download this file, it's free so go for it!
http://nokiafree.org/forums/t73777/h/s.html

You copy:
BmpAnimScrPlugin.ini
BmpAnimScrPlugin.sc
BmpAnimScrPlugin.mbm (Note: I am not responsible in any way for the images in the original screensaver by the creator)

into the 'Screensavers' directory you have created (use something like FExplorer, Seleq, Epocware etc.)

The new screensaver will appear in the Themes option e.g. Edit the current theme and select the new theme.

To make an animated GIF as a screensaver, first you have to separate the GIF into individual images e.g. Jasc Animation Shop, select all the frames when GIF is open, then use Save Frames As (make sure to not use long file names as it will mess up the process).

Now load MBM Wizard:
http://www.symbian-freak.com/downlo.../mbm_wizard.zip

Select all the separate images (making sure they are in the right order), then use the "Add selected as" --> choose /c12

Now choose the Select All in the options on the right, and make sure "Change Selected to" is on /c12. File --> Save As, and call it "BmpAnimScrPlugin.mbm". Copy this file to the screensavers directory on your phone replacing the other one.

You can edit the speed between images to adjust animation rate, or how long the light is on etc by editing the "BmpAnimScrPlugin.ini" file:

Quote:
[info]
; Plugin name
name=HERE INPUT WHATHEVER NAME YOU LIKE

; Bitmap file name (on ROM full path is needed)
;mbmfile=c:\system\screensavers\BmpAnimScrPlugin.m bm

; Running time in millis
runningtime=60000000

; Suspend time in millis (max 2147483647, -1 indefinitely)
suspendtime=-1

; Time between images in millis
timing=200000

; Time to keep lights on in seconds
lights=15

I suggest restarting the phone when you have made changes to any of the files to make sure they work correctly.

NOTE to moderator --> make this a Sticky!
It works on my 6630 fw 3.45.113 for definite.

Hmmm, I just extracted the T-Mo default theme from my 6600 because the files are already set. I only had to change the ini file to c instead of z as the path.

I want to use the Tmo screensaver to replace the TIM screensaver on my 6630. Still having a bit of trouble with it but I'll post when I get it working.

so i guess it wont work on ngage
