You can find the sites that sell t-flash if you google. The reasons for choosing E398 over V620 are;
V620 has no expandable memory option. It has no mp3 player. It has no stereo speakers. The only thing that has good over E398 is its video capture ability that i don't really care, and a phone with no memory stick is out of question to me. There is only one link that doesn't work at the moment (which is #8) by the way, not a few.

I have to say: E398 is in fact what you need at the moment if you wanna use a GSM phone. There is nothing better GSM Moto that's no smartphone.

E398 has Trans-Flash and Stereo.

The only reason to buy a V620 is that you might need quadband which doesn't work with the E398.
I wouldn't miss the videorec since I tried it out on my E398 with the firmware of the V620/V535 and the videos were really bad.

Posted by: braindead5400

the v620 has a better screen than the E398. I wouldn't buy it for the screen though, the E398 has a nice screen as well, its just not 262k

Posted by: skanwar

with the v620, i cant really see the difference in the screen anyways.. and vidrec isnt something i use too often..

Lev: sry about the links mistake; my bad. heh...

thx for everyones responses, keep them up...

Posted by: Levent

V620
---------
Display Type: LCD (Color TFT/TFD)
Colors: 262,144 (18-bit)
Size: 176 x 220 pixels
TFT / 65,000 colors for wallpaper

E398
----------
Type: LCD (Color TFT/TFD)
Colors: 65,536 (16-bit)
Size: 176 x 220 pixels
TFT

So, they have the same amount of colors with the same size of pixels when it's a wallpaper we are looking at .

hmm.. well, pretty sure im gonna switch to the E398.. just want to see it in my hands once before i buy it.. probably hit pmall or something..

Lev, one more question for you (since you have the phone).. how is the quality of the mp3 playback (if i used it as a mp3 player) VS a normal mp3 player? and does it come with headphones?

LMK, thx

Posted by: Levent

i did the same thing before i bought the phone, tried it at a phone shop. I didn't get exactly what you mean from mp3 playback vs normal mp3 player but there is one mp3 player under Multimedia>Sounds and other one as java mp3 player. The dif. is you can make a playlist with the java one but they both function good on my E398, and yes it comes with a headphone. If you also want to listen to radio thru E398 yes you can, all you need to buy is a stereo headset. Thank you.

Posted by: skanwar

thats good to know as well; but what i meant to say was: how is the quality of the mp3 player in comparison to any normal mp3 player... and battery life

Posted by: Levent

mp3 player is really good and battery life; E398 has 3 bars in its battery symbol. When i listen to music for three and a half hours straight, play games about another two hours or so, take pictures with the camera for about twenty minutes, goofing around with the phone about an hour (like changing wallpapers, uploading new ringtones from comp. or playing with seem files) and maybe thirty minutes talk on the phone, at the end of the day what i have left is two bars out of three. If the phones is in stand-by its battery lasts more than 6 days. It's possible to take a picture or to play a game or to do something else while listening your mp3 songs on the background. All you need to do is to press the hide button and it will hide the mp3 player as you can do many other things on your phone simultaneously. I'd recommend to turn the game sounds off in such case.

Lev, or anyone else who owns an E398.. if you find the time, do you think you could give your personal opinions on the following...

GSMARENA review lists the following cons to the E398:
- Speed
- Back cover creaking
- Headphones connector

As well, these are some other issues pointed out:
The big and organized keypad makes typing comfortable but phone's speed is hard going. The reaction speed is the most serious vice of the phone and that goes twice for SMS writing.

During iTap predictive writing the phone shows another strange feature - the display unexpectedly switches off. It's really unpleasant if you write SMS in the dark, when you need keys to be illuminated.

Comparing to the headphones, which have very attractive design, the rubber cover looks very unsightly when you uncover it. It extends from the phone and freely sways.

In the corners of the silver part there [back of phone] are - quite illogically - two uncovered screws, holding the cover.

First of all, that review belongs to someone called Jaroslav Snášel. Anything in that review is only his opinions. This is why, i don't know his comparisons regarding to speed, backcover and headphones connector, but i don't agree with him on E398's cons. The phone's speed while typing sms or doing something else is not slow at all (at least mine is not). Jaroslav Snášel made this review on 23 July 2004, so most probably his phone had the very first firmware, 31R. The first firmwares like 31R,34R, 59R have noticebly slow response compared to 95R, 97R or 98R firmwares. So speed is no more problem for E398. Secondly, the back light or illuminator doesn't switch off while using itapor whatever. The light stays on as long as you're text msging. Thirdly, whether the headphone jack looks nice or not it does its job. I also think it's easier to listen to music while the headphone jack is on top of the phone instead of bottom (since you carry it in your pocket you don't want your phone to hang there upside down). Lastly, i don't see anything wrong with two uncovered screws. How would you unscrew them if they were covered? Then, the back cover should be one piece instead of two which would totally change the design of the phone. I like it this way. The back cover never creaked once by the way. E398 is a very good quality phone, you should go to a mobile market and try it

Posted by: skanwar

Well thanks a billion for the detailed reponse. Just helps to reassure my decision heh. Wish there was a place around here I could see a real one, but they are all dummies. I think I'm going to just go for it anywho! Thanks again Lev, highly appreciated!

no prob at all. Moto s coming with nice phones, here is the link if you wanna check;

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=568013

But it seems like they're not gonna release them before 3rd or 4th Quarter of 2005.

Posted by: skanwar

yea I saw them.. the V8 looks the best out of them all, but god knows how much it'll cost when it comes out

Posted by: Levent

i think around $450-$500.

Posted by: skanwar

****, way out of my budget... half a grand on a phone =\

When I was reading the details about the silvr, I was thinking that I finally found a replacement for my 6230b, but then I saw that it won't be out for awhile, my 6230 will be long gone by then.

honestly, i don't know. I'm hoping that the 6230i real and not very far off, but what ever I choose, it has to have 850 because thats my cingular account

Posted by: Levent

then let's hope 6230i will come out with 208X208

i really can't see them sticking to the 128x128 screen since that was basically the only complaint about the phone

Posted by: Levent

true but it is still a rumor that 6230i will have 208X208 or 128X160 (either of them is better than 128X128 anyways)...

Posted by: braindead5400

i can't see the phone having a 128x160 display, the pics show that the screen is too square for it

Posted by: skanwar

Where can you find working models of phones to see (particularly the E398)?

Posted by: braindead5400

I usually go to chinatown

Posted by: skanwar

thats in Chicago.. here i went to the local chinesemall (Pacific Mall) but all they have are demos/dummies..

Posted by: Levent

wouldn't know where to look for E398 in Toronto

Posted by: skanwar

anyone know where i can find one in t-dot to see

Posted by: Levent

1) http://gsmtoronto.com/contact.php
2) http://easycell.ca/custom.aspx?id=1

Posted by: skanwar

these guys both have completely sealed boxes that you cant open to check out... to purchase, easycell is great.. but i wont be able to see/use the phone before purchase!

Posted by: Levent

there must be tons of mobile shops in Toronto, why don't u go and check some of them?

Posted by: braindead5400

or you could try asking in the lounge, more people are there and may know about some shops

Posted by: skanwar

Yea I posted there, lets see if I get some replys.

Posted by: Levent

did you try e398 yet?

Posted by: skanwar

not as of yet

seeing it is the only thing that stands in my way of buying it!

Posted by: skanwar
