OK .. Can we all get along now ... Im a noob if u wanna say it like that . But I have over 30 cables so I think I have a lil bit of knowledge on this subject ... LOL .. The bubble does make a difference . Some people may like it .. I for 1 dis-like it . If you use a cable with a bubble please read all instructions and manuals it may come with .. Its that simple . Cables without bubbles work more efficiently and easier than those with . But thats just a little info from a noob ..... But I have sucessfully modded over 50 phones ..

Man, Ive been through hell trying to put TUNES on my VX8000. Yesterday, tried it with QPST or whatever, messed my phone up, it would just turn off randomly. Luckily went to Verizon today, which ended up being my last day I could exchange my phone or whatever, so they gave me a new one. I now tried it with BitPim, the newest one 0.7.31, deleted the aod.dat, but when I tried to add the mp3 to the AOD folder it just errors.
ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING

I might have missed exactly what problems you're having but you might want to be specific??
I use that exact cable with BitPim and it works.

Posted by: derelekt

The futuredial cables from radio shack are still your best bet. I am currently using the USB-to-serial for the VX6000. Tons of people say the VX6000 cable doesnt fit, but it does (not exactly, its a tight fit but it works). Of course the VX7000 cable is better, fit is not so snug....but I dont think you can go wrong if you get the futuredial cables from radio shack.

i didnt get any software or anything with that usb cord and it aint recognizing the phone in bitpim can you explain to me what to do exactlY?

does the official cable charge while connected?

Posted by: steelr77

Ok, I am using Bitpim 7.31 and I have trouble loading tunes to my 8000. I go in and delete the aod.dat file. I can upload the song into the shared folder but it doesnt go into the tunes folder. Instead it loads into the application memory on the phone, filling it up. Any help would be appreciated.

No problem mate we are here to help one another ....

Posted by: rest_easy

couple things noticed.
1) all drivers here http://www.futuredial.com/support/d...USB_Drivers.htm
load them then plug cable and bitpim and stuff works. (i have lg vx8000) otherwise nothing will happen
2) i think one of the best programs for converting movies is VirtualDub (hey, it's free). convert down using xvid for max compression for .avi (haven't tried to convert from that to .3gp yet)
3) for audio editing I like goldwave myself. Also, if you have a newer copy of nero then that has a sound editor as well and you can use that to enhance volume or cut (fade) ringtones.

I'm going to attempt to convert an entire movie to the smallest filesize and get back to ya'all. High hopes people.

Posted by: caseyroyer30

i installed the driver, now i cannot do it still it still says unregonized, could you explain to me from step one exactly what to do it would be greatly appreciated ill start over

Posted by: Thundaar

What happens exactly when you plug the phone in?
Does it say 'found new hardware'?

Posted by: caseyroyer30

nope, it dont do anything i plug my phone in and it dont do anything

Posted by: Thundaar

Do you know if plug and play is enabled?

When I plug in my phone i get the bing and when I disconnect it I get the same bing. When installing I got the bing then 'new hardware found' then it asked for the drivers on disk or from a location.

So you would need to go to add hardware from the control panel and see if it finds it then.

if not... do you have any other usb devices connected? do they work? if you unplug one does it give you the bing sound?

Posted by: caseyroyer30

when i ptu the usb thign int the comp it does do the bing and when i unplug it it does thes same but when i plug my phone into it it does nothing how do i enable plug aln play and do you have aim you could assist me on

Posted by: rest_easy

question: I go to bitpim (newest version) and I click on the ringtones tab. Then i click add+ I find my mp3 ringtone clip that i made and I select that, convert. Then I click Send Data to Phone. and it uploads directly without me having to delete ****. Am I doing that right?
also, how do i check the memory of my tunes section. All I have seen is application memory and contents memory. Which is which, how do i tell the difference? thanks

I would suggest going to windows update and update your machine .. all drivers and updates . Then lets try again and see if your phone will be reconized... Also the drivers are on my ftp ....

ok didnt notice this post ... That only displays for 2 reasons with xp ...

1. You have incorrect drivers

2. You have incorrect cable

and the 2nd reason is almost 99% of the time

Posted by: her34

does filling up all the phone's memory cause problems?

Posted by: Thundaar

To check the memory in tunes:
click ok
click left twice
hit the right soft button (hit it gently please)

ok mate ..... When you plugged the cable in was a phone on the other end ... If not then you must have a cable with a box or a bubble in it in which you need a cable with a str line in it ... But if you want drivers they are on my ftp

does the vx8000 use a usb to serial cable or a straight one? eg. prolific usb to serial or cp2101 usb to uart bridge controller

Seriously, I'm not computer retarded here. I'm actually a computer programmer for Verizon, but for the life of me I can't get this $400 POS to connect to my god **** computer.

Here's the scoop:
I'm running WINXP, and have the FutureDial cable (cable 19) from Radioshack for the LG 1200, VI5225, VX4500, VX4600, and VX6000. I even shaved down the tabs on the plug so that it connects like butter. And no, I didn't damage it in the process, I'm like a surgeon with an Xacto knife.

So Pureskillzzz, I downloaded the files from your FTP, everything in LG/Drivers.

I ran LGUSBDriverInstallation_35f, and first it uninstalled stuff. I ran it a second time and then it alerted me that the drivers were successfully installed. Then I Unzipped the file LG44005350drivers. In the unzipped folder I run the Setup app, which does an uninstall, then I run it again and it says drivers installed successfully.

Then I connected my data cable to my phone, and plugged it into my computer.

I got the ding, and then blurb about "USB Device Not Recognized", and I clicked on the message for more details/options.

Then I get a window titled "USB Device Not Recognized" and it shows me a tree of my USB Root Hub (2 Ports). I should note that I've got 7 USB ports on my PC, two in the front and 5 in the back. My iPod is connected to one in the front, and my Kodak camera dock is plugged into the back, along with my keyboard.

Anyways, the tree for the Hib shows:
Unused Port (iPod isn't in the port)
Unknown Device

Unknown Device is in bold, so I figure that's the one I want. I double-click it and get "Unknown Device Properties" window, with tabs General and Driver.

I click the driver tab knowing that I need to install the drivers. There, four options are listed:
-Driver Details (which goes to say No driver loaded for device)
-Update Driver
-Roll Back Driver
-Uninstall

First I Uninstall just to be sure, then I click Update Driver. Hardware Update Wizard hell begins.
I select "Install from a specific location" and click Next.
I then get the options of "Search for the best drivers in these locations..." and "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.". I select option 2, and then click Next.

Then I get a new window asking me to select the manufacturer and model of the device I am installing, where my only option is "Unknown Device". So I click "Have Disk", and then am prompted to browse to the files. I go to where I've unzipped the drivers (VX4400 VX6000\winxp), then click open (not on any specific file, as I assume that it will autodetect which to use, I later tried selecting each individual one to no avail). I then get the message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". Click OK, reselect files to install, same thing.

I'm at my wits end. I know this phone is awesome, and I've I alread racked up $4 in txting pics to the phone becuase it sucks, and I can't get anywhere with installing anything. Hell, I haven't even gotten to the point of Bitpim or QPST.

This sucks and I'm hoping you can show me the way, you seem to really know what you're doing here. I've had a post up at CellPhoneHacks.com for nearly a month and no one's replied. I don't recall my old VX4400 being this **** difficult.

Anyways, please please please tell me what I am doing wrong.

I would like to compress my MP3's and change them to 64 instead of 128, and suggestions of a good reliable software and FREE???

Thanks,

maybe you have a serial to usb cable using a prolific or the cp2101 usb to uart chipset?

try those drivers

Hi folks!

I was curious if anyone has been successful in getting a VX8000 data connection using Mac OSX and BitPim 0.7.31? I'm using OSX 10.3.9. It was my understanding that OSX 10.3.x auto-detects USB devices and cell phones are detected by it. When I plug it in, I get nothing. System Profiler doesn't detect the device either. DO I need a OSX 10.3.9 USB driver then? If so.. where could I find one?

I got one of the straight-through USB data cables from CoolWireless. Its for the VX7000, but reading this forum suggests that cable works just fine on the VX8000. The plug has the "three prong" tabs like the VX8000 and fits correctly.

I'm rather new to all of this and am looking for advice from other OSX users to get this thing working!

Posted by: jsong

I also am having a lot of trouble with the prolific drivers on my cable from cellphoneshop.net...

i cant detect my phone and i have read every single page and tried everything ...

1) installed prolific drivers
2) used open porrts tried 1-20 ... ports opened on 1-10
3) changed pc connection to RS 232C 115200
4)re installed multiple times... drivers and software.. used diff versions of bit pim as well..

still cant detect my phone from bitpim from any port or program... workin on this for days.. still cant get it to work!!

PLEASE help... aim SN: nhoj gnos

ive tried EVERY literal combination of settings with bit pim... just gives me error about not finding phone... every time... even took it to verizon and they couldnt see if its a bad serial on my phone cuz they have no 8ks in stock....

i might just return it and wait for the 8100.. this is the only reason i bought this phone so i can load mp3s with data cable... grrr...

anyone help please.. iam up for any ideas.. even ones evolving a garbage can and my phone in it...

are you using the FILE SYSTEM in bitpim?

I'm speaking for Mac OSX here...

When you plug the USB cable in, I see a "USB Serial Controller" by Prolific Technology.

When connected to the cell phone.. nothing changes. BitPim can't even find it.

Posted by: jsong

yea i read u can only use filesystem for vx8000 on bit pim... when i try to expand the file system the log says it cant find my phone..

Posted by: tt_z32

Hey skorzy, Im also on OS X. Check your PM

Posted by: kanundrum

IS there any faster way of getting mp3's on the phone. Or at least an automated way.

Basically I know its worth me sitting at my comp for like an hour for like 3 mp3's but is there a way where i can automate it and just set it over night to upload all my mp3's.

Or possibly what whould happen if i just put in a new sub directory that contained all my mp3's

any ideas on automation would be great.

Posted by: Thundaar

It's gotta be BitPim that is so slow because of the de-bugging stuff I would think

there has to be a better program that is faster

Posted by: kanundrum

Yes exactly. I am not too sure why, but BITPIM is really slow. Took me about 35 mins for a 3.5mb Mp3. Thats why i am thinking there has to be a faster way or possibly an automated way.

Using BITPIM and the VX6000 Cable

Posted by: Thundaar

But BitPim IS free! So one can't complain!!! I have an ipod anyway lol

Posted by: jbroses

So I played around with some settings (and the filesystem) extensively to customize my 8000,m and now I get the following message when trying to retrieve a picture message that's been sent to me:

Network Authentication Failed

This happens after I see the "connecting" message for 10 or so seconds first. When trying to access VCast (through the "Video Clips" option under "Get Pix & Flix") I get:

Video Clips Is Not Available

This message comes up immediately, doesn't even try to connect.

I have a complete file system backup which I've restored from, but this doesn't fix the problem.

I'm wondering if someone could post all (yes, ALL) of the settings from their service menu here to make sure I haven't screwed anything up there. To access the service menu, hit MENU -> 0 -> Code is all 000000. To access the SMS menu, from the Service Menu hit * -> Code is 899667.

Any help is very much appreciated!

I've got the LG VX8000 (thought it was clear being in the 8k thread, but I do mention a bunch of different models in my post and never the 8000, sorry).

I get the sound when it's just the cable (no phone at the end of the cable), and when the phone is attached to the cable.

Posted by: MikeSobe

Ok I am using QPST to add a video and its been a while. The video is added in the media section... what do I have to delete so that the phone builds back when it restarts so that I can select the video under my flix section? thanks

Just thought i would post what i have found for bitpim. I have a 8000, use bitpim on win xp. Bought my cables off ebay and it a charging cable. Everything loaded perfect for me. I noticed when the cable is charging my phone it takes just as long as you guys say. Like 45 minutes to get some mp3s on there. BUT...when the phone is finished charging..(says charging complete) I open the phone and hit ok. Then when i load mp3s through bitpim they go on almost instantaneously. I closed bitpim and did this again to verify it. Someone else give it try. I put like 10 mp3s on there in a few seconds.

Posted by: J Peezy

I have a question about loading mp3's on bitpim. I notice when they are on the program they are in alphabetical order. When i open them on the front lcd, they are in z-a order. Is there a way on the phone to change this or a way on bitpim?

Why is it when the phone is closed and you hold down the play/stop button on the front it says "No Tunes!" Is there a way to get your mp3's on there so that you can access them with the phone closed?

Posted by: splah

Strange- I have a cable from Radio Shack, it's not the charging one. But my MP3's takes forever to transfer.

Wrong Cable mate ..... If your cable makes a sound with computer then its incorrect cable for the job . Some people use it but it makes things a lot harder and they are particularly for a specific program.

Where are you putting them? You have to put them in /brew/shared/aod. Delete the aod.dat file first...i forget where it is. Add the mp3s (that you hopefully have modified down to like 1.8mb) into this folder. Close the program, restart the phone. They will play just like you want.

illpacin0 .... R u still with us mate ? Are you going to change your cable ?

Any one know the directory where tune shows go? I would kinda like my videos in that folder, seperate from the flix i record through the camera.

it goes something like.
1. Go into your cell and change data settings to 11500 and USB(or maybe RSC..)<--i don't remember.
2. Connect cell phone to computer via vx6000 or vx7000 cable.
3. Open up 'QPST Configuration' Program.
4. Click on Add New Port
5. Type in "COM1" and onward until you get to yours. I had to keep on going until i reached "COM15".
6. Highlight and make sure it's enabled.
7. Go into your other 'QPST' programs and have fun.

Dude!!! Thank you for that INFO! I used my VX6000 Data cable and more or less following your instructions, it worked on my VX8000! I'm very happy since I got all my old phone numbers and ringers transfered....

Now one last question....will my old 6000 chargers work? Right now I'm trying the initial charge with the new charger, but you can't tell if it's charging or not. I'll assume it is and check it in a few hours to see if the bars went up.

Thanks again for all the Info!!!!

ahhh i see. prolific is the type of cable. thank you for informing me of that. actually i got the LG CDMA modem drivers to work (not sure how but they decided to) and i can connect to my phone using QPST to take off pictures and add ringers. thats mainly what i wanted to do so i am very happy. thanks very much for replying.

ordered a cable with cd, installed drivers, tried bitpim and qpst and neither one shows my phone. When I plug in the cable to my phone windows xp pops up a balloon message that says USB Device Not Recognized. Whats the deal? I even went to the LB website and installed the drivers from there. Install says it went ok, even rebooted. neither program shows my phone and I don't see anything in the hardware manager.

Posted by: Learn_2_Burn

you made sure that you know what com port your phone is coneccted to right? if QPST shows you that its using com port 4 or something and your computer doesnt have a com port 4 installed you need to create a new port in the system menu i believe in control panel. sorry late for work. ill give more details in a while

Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute...

469 posts and no one has given step-by-step instructions on how to get free WAP for your phone?

I love this thread, but I figure this is one of the things that would've been done, especially in light of how many step-by-step tasks there are shown in this thread.

Would anyone care to rectify the situation?

There was a thread called free wap or something like that. I know because I read through it and got it all set up and there was loads of wap sites listed too!

Yeah, I found it earlier yesterday; I'm gonna go ahead and put it in my sig.

I'm looking into installing BitPim to download pics and video clips from my VX7000 to my PC computer.

Which version of BitPim is stable?

I believe that it doesn't matter if it's VX6100, VX7000 or VX8000 -- the same software, right?

Thanks!

Posted by: Thundaar

I use the latest ver 32 unless there is another! I have had very little stability problems with any of them. It does seem to crash here and there but all ver seem to do that...

Posted by: RavenSoft

I installed the usb drivers

when I plug in the phone to my computer a ballon error pops up by the clock saying the computer can't recognize the device or something like that and to plug it in again or replace the device. there are no devices showing in the hardware manager like screenshots I saw on this site. I got the cable from eforcity. Any idea whats wrong? and the cable has the like black deal in the middle.

Just got my LG VX8000, and this thread sounds so interesting. I would like to learn how to do all these wonderful things with my new LG VX8000, and ofcourse i dont want to mess it up. I read talk about backing up data files and all, but dont quite understand it. Also about certain data cables needed. Anyways, can anyone give me a link to a site, thread or watever that can explain things right from the beginning? I will truely appreciate it.

Also, will the data cable bought from verizon (VX7000) work?

Thanks in advance . . .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where can I get BitPim?

BitPim can be found here.

I do not use version 0.7.26 which is the latest. I use 0.7.25 which you can find here.

Personally I couldn't get 0.7.26 to work for me, ON MY LAPTOP but on my PC it works. Weird. Anyway if 0.7.26 doesn't work, uninstall the whole thing and then install .25

Pictures:

*Take a certain picture of whatever

*Save it, then use BitPim.

*Go to the “dload” tree

*Then open the “img” tree

*Then find that picture you just took, and right click on that file.

*Select “overwrite” and replace it with the picture you want.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Music/Ringtones:

*In ringtones, click on “record new” and record whatever.

*Go into BitPim and open up the “dload” tree.

*Then open up the “snd” tree

*Find that voice recording you did, and right click on it.

*Select “Overwrite”

*Find your ringtone and select it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Music/Tunes:

For your mp3 player in the phone this is alittle more difficult than putting ringtones on.

*First go into your BitPim and click on the “dload” tree

*Then the first file you see is “aod.dat” DELETE IT (this refreshes every restart)
*Now close the “dload” tree and open the “brew” tree
*Look near the bottom and you’ll see the “shared” tree, open it.
*Now open the “aod” tree.
*Right click on the “aod” tree and click on “New File”
*Find the Mp3 you want and upload it.
*Now once you finished uploading, restart BitPim and your phone. Then do the whole process over again.
(Now you can upload any mp3 at any quality. All my mp3s are 128, but that is taking up a lot of space, so I’m considering reloading them at 64.)
(Also if you upload something BIG like I have the 7 minute Metallica – One song there, if you upload a large song like this and you noticed your BitPim is probably frozen. Just unplug your phone and restart BitPim and your phone, and you’ll notice the is on there)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video:

Here are the steps

*record something, for like a second. It doesn't matter.

*Download something in Avi. format (or convert video to avi)

*Now if it’s not Avi. format and you need a program to convert whatever file to Avi. then this is what I recommend.

" STOIK Video Converter 2 "

IT'S FREE!!!!

-How to use:

-Input File - is the video u got that u want in avi format.

-Output file - is where ur new avi. is going to show up on ur comp.

-Output format - is what format u want ur new video to be

-Select " AVI to Small PC " becuz that size fits ur screen the best

-Also press " Crtl P " and at the bottom u need to switch the audio from momo to stero (cuz u got the 8000 might as well use stero right?)

*Use Nokia Multimedia converter 2.0 to convert Avi. to QCIF (You can find here. )

-Open your new Avi. file and then hit “Convert”

-Give it a couple seconds, then save the file!

*Use BitPim 0.7.25 (or any working BitPim)

*Go to Brew/Media/ the video file you recorded

*Right click on the file and select "Overwrite"

*Find ur QCIF file and there u go!

Leave your comments and questions and have fun!

*Sorry Guy if this was asked, I did'nt see it, but should you compress your Audio AND Video, and if so, what's the best way ? I thank you, like everyone else !!!

Hello, everyone. I'm just checking in after about 6 weeks of being away from this forum. Luckily, I still remember the basics of uploading and downloading pictures to/from my phone via BitPim.

I also upgraded it to the latest ver. (0.7.32) and it looks good. I did have one brief scare where while in the middle of grabbing the pictures off my phone onto my computer, the computer crashed. I rebooted it and the picture I was downloading appeared to get corrupted (at least via BitPim). So then I tried to look for the pic via my phone and saw it. I then retried with BitPim, and sure enough, the picture was there. Go figure.

I agree 100%!! Free WAP should definitely be included in the first post of this thread. Now that I don't have VCast anymore, I'm more interested in this than ever before. If anyone can provide the latest WAP info., I'd appreciate it and it would make an excellent addition to this thread. TIA.

k. maybe this question doesn't belong here, but i'll give it a try. Does anyone know if its possible to change the settings for the message inbox or outbox? The inbox gets full too quick, and I have to delete messages too often. I text a lot, so man thats pretty annoying. I thought that the messages would delete themselves after I reached a certain amount. Like, the last message would automatically be erased to make room for the new one. <--- is that possible, to have it autodelete so i dont have to do it manually all the time??

thanks

Is there a way to put a sound on for opening and closing the flip? Almost every other flip phone has this. I cant find it on this phone.

I have tried to change the power on and power off animation / sound since I got the phone. I can't find a way to do this either.

Most of us got the data cable from EBay. Either search for "VX8000 data cable" or even "VX7000 data cable" since the '7000's is compatible for our '8000. I don't remember my seller's EBay screen name off the top of my head, but I know some here have had success buying the data cable from seller dwoodsz (not sure of the spelling of that guy's screen name). It shouldn't cost you more than $10, including shipping.

Sorry, I can't help you w/ the inbox question. I don't use text message very often. Did it say anything about it in the manual? The only thing I can think of is to perform the following:

1.) Turn on your LG VX8000 cell phone.
2.) Press the left softkey to access MESSAGING.
3.) Press the left softkey (again) to access SETTINGS.
4.) Press the number 2 to access AUTO ERASE.
5.) Change the radio button from Off to On.
6.) Press OK to accept the change.

This might do it, but I don't know how many days the message will automatically erase in.

In another thread, some LG VX8000 users mentioned that they had their phone's firmware upgraded from ver. 4 to ver. 5. Did anyone here do it? Were there any problems associated with that (e.g. lose contacts, pictures, music, etc.)? Was there a thread created re: V05? I was out of the country for the better part of April and May, so I did not get a chance to read about the new firmware. TIA.

I found the instructions to update one's LG VX8000 phone to have free WAP. I have not been able to find a good IP address/port # so far, but I figured I'd pass it on to you. The following was posted by audiecu. I'm copying-and-pasting what he wrote, but am making a couple minor corrections.

Here's [audiecu's] steps to successfully run free WAP on [his] phone:

Hope it helps.

Running Free Wap on LG VX8000:

1. Press menu -> 0 -> 000000 (should take u to the service menu).
2. Then press 8 (wap setting).
3. Press 6 (reset browser) [this will reboot your phone].
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
5. Press 1 (Proxy Address Setting).
6. Set Primary Address and Secondary Address the same (obtain free public proxy server at publicproxyserver.com or http://www.publicproxyservers.com/index.html) (e.g. 216.79.41.36).
7. Press 2 (Proxy Port Setting).
8. Set Primary Port and Secondary Port the same (obtain Port from publicproxyserver.com--use the port of the proxy server you are using) (e.g. 3128).
9. Set Primary LXL Port and Secondary LXL Port to 9201.
10. Clear User Password (if user password say "VZW",delete the password and save, phone will reboot and do steps 1 and 2 again).
11. Set Homepage to http://mobile.msn.com/ or any other WAP homepages (tagtag.com, wap.oa.yahoo.com, wap.google.com, etc.) [saving this will reboot your phone].
12. Do not use "Clear Perm Mem" or "Reset Browser" options (only exception to use reset browser is on step 3).
13. Now go back to your main menu and press the "News & Info" button (top of the directional pad) to load your browser.
14. If your homepage loads up, your done! Congratulation! now you can use your own free wap on your LG VX8000.
15. Happy surfing!

Note: Airtime is still used when using the internet on your VX8000 unless you are using it on free nights or weekends, then the Internet is free.

Yeah, I think that might work. I just have to wait til' my inbox gets a lot of messages since I just erased it about 2 minutes ago. Thanks a lot.

I was trying to use netzero email to send myself a ring tone, and it didn't work. But I did get Yahoo to work just fine.

I know that outlook express works, and I belive Lotus Notes mail works as well.

I am patiently waiting for my data cable to arrive.

Someone asked where to get cables for the VX8000. There are two different cables for this phone. One is straight through USB and the other is a USB to serial. The straight through USB is easier to set up for me.

eCity Wireless Inc. Data Cables

Let me know if you have questions on specific cables.

Call up VZW and ask them to enable that feature on your account. I had the same problem until they fixed it on their end.

FAUguy alerted me to this thread. Has anyone gone to a VZW store to upgrade their LG VX8000's firmware from V04 to V05? If so, what has been your experience w/ the phone since the upgrade? TIA.

Posted by: Frank S

Upgrade was fine for me. I did have to go into the service menu and (en)able DUN (was disabled by 05). I do use my phone as a modem. Other than that, smooth sailing.

-Frank

Posted by: Thundaar

I can't even find a store that can do the upgrade!!! lol I went to the biggest one in my area and they tried for 45 mins and then told me the cable they have won't recognize my phone!! I asked them if they wanted to borrow MY cable!!

They said YOU have a cable??? I said uh uh y y yes I do o n't!

I guess they frown on the cable thing because they said they will NOT be selling them.

Posted by: beowulf7

Thanks for the responses, Frank and Thundaar. I just called the largest VZW store in my area (the ones who got the VX8000 first). The CSR confirmed that they have the new firmware (V05) and she said it would take 1.5 hours to do the upgrade!

I guess I'll go there, drop off my phone, run some errands, and then head back to pick it up. I wonder if I should delete all the X-rated pics from my phone. j/k

Re: the data cable, I can imagine that VZW would not be happy about it since we now get to send pics for free instead of paying $0.25 per pic. Also, we can make our own ring tones and d/l them to the phone instead of paying an astronomical sum to use their service.

Posted by: beowulf7

I got my phone's software/firmware (not sure exactly what it is in this case) upgraded from V04 to V05 from a nearby VZW store. It looks like everything went well. They told me it would take about an hour to upgrade the phone. I dropped it off and showed up about 1.5 hours later. One thing I noticed immediately - besides the extra memory available for my MP3s/video clips - is that while talking, if I hit the camera button on the side by accident, the phone no longer makes that annoying and loud beep sound.

Posted by: joelsgotmail

Does the memory actually increase with the upgrade? After upgrading mine, I thought yeaaa 55mb, but after playing around with the phone, it looks like they just combined how available memory is displayed on the phone and memory is basically about the same as it was before.

Yeah, I think they just changed the allocation. I'm not sure if the new SW/FW actually consumes less space than the older version. I doubt does.

But before the upgrade, I was at 91% utilization; now I'm only at 79%, I think.

The new version of BitPim was released a few days ago. Here are the changes from ver. 0.7.32. I installed it and used it. I didn't notice anything different, but I didn't check out the expanded help section for this phone.

Changes in 0.7.33

* Added a feature that would allow BitPim to download (and upload) wallpapers and ringtones which file names may be illegal on the host system.
* Added numerical input fields for Clip Start, Clip End, and QCP Clip Volume to the Ringtone Conversion Dialog.
* Added sound/size optimization for QCP conversion to the Ringtone Conversion Dialog.
* Fixed a bug which raised an exception when trying to print out Calendar Events that have '&'s in its summaries/descriptions.
* Made some improvements to the HexViewer feature.
* Fixed a resizing bug in the Contacts Import Dialog.
* Updated several bits of help including a section on the LG VX8000. You can now get Mac Prolific PL2303 drivers from the Prolific website. Thanks to David Hechtman for the information.
* LG VX-3200 Some support added for this phone. Make sure you read the help notes first. This functionality was contributed by Bruce Schurmann.

Okay, I've got v.33 of BitPim and the data cable with the two grooves so it fits well in the phone. I purchased this cable from dwoodz on eBay.

1. My phone is not being recognized.

2. I explicitly followed the instructions on Page 1 for Ringtones, and it is not working. I even went into "cmd" and renamed my .mp3 to a .mid. I had a voice recording with the names consistent. It says that it's been overwritten on my "dld" tree, but that it's still a .qcp file. When I play it, it's dead space.

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

The cable that works with the VX6100 will also work with the VX8000, as will the software that comes with the Verizon data kit. The Verizon wireless saleman assured me that it would NOT work, but with the 15 day return policy, I decided to give the VX8000 a try. The cable works fine.

If your phone is not being recognized by BitPim, then you probably didn't install the proper driver on your computer. Search LG's Web site to find the driver for the VX8000 and install it, then try the BitPim process. You might have to reboot your computer after installing the driver.

Posted by: Thundaar

Too bad Microsoft Office doesn't need to work with the cell phones. Then at least the drivers would be real easy to install. Most of the questions here seem to be that the phone isn't recognized for some reason or another. I had to try 4 times to get the proper driver and then install it so it would work. I had to uninstall the drivers between tries too.
The driver installed that came with my phone didn't work correctly so I needed to get drivers somewhere else and unzip them into thier own directory. Then try to install the phone. When it asks for the driver location I told it the directory I created with the unzipped drivers there. DO NOT try to use the 'auto install (reccomended)' way, it will just sit there like the computer froze.

Hope this helped.

I have been reading a lot of the tutorial advice to get the VX8000 to work as a modem and I have a similar issue. I am using a VX6000 cable (fits fine). It is the futuredial #19. I can get Bitpim and QPST to work just fine...No worries there. I cant, however, get my XP machine to recognize the phone as a modem. When I was going through the setup processes, I got the "New hardware installed" for the cable...and like I said, everything works with BitPim and QPST, but when I plugged the phone in (after installing the VX8000 drivers version 4.5 from LG), I never got a bing, or anything saying that new hardware was connected. Obvviously, XP knows it is there, as the CABLE shows up under "Ports" in the Device manager and I can pull data off the phone...
Am I skipping a step? Do I need to have the futuredial software too?
Thanks

Hey mate . If its a future dial cable chances are your machine doesnt read phone exactly but it reads the cable . Their cables are mainly for their software . And you may also have a bulb or bubble in it which means wrong cable mate .... Time for new cable with out bubble.

Thankx got it all working ok. Now does anyone know why mp3 ringtones & tunes aren't that loud like nextell ringtones? It seems they have really loud ringtones. Probably the loudest i have ever heard on a phone. Why isn't the vx8000 that loud or am i doing something wrong?

About the ring tone, I've never used a Nextel phone, so I can't compare the 2 ringers. It seems pretty loud. Make sure you have the main volume set to the highest mode. Also, you can use an audio editing program, such as GoldWave to edit MP3s. Note that you'll have to install an MP3 encoder, such as LAME. (That's explained in the GoldWave link I just provided.)

Just thought I would let you know that I downloaded BitPim version 7.32 I believe from Soundforge.net and I got it to work with my vx8000...

I tried 7.26, then removed it and reinstalled 7.25, and neither worked.

I didn't think the newest version was working either, then I shut off the phone, turned it back on while it was still on the cable, and then and only then did it recognize my phone.

There is a new version out now. 7.33

Try that one out it fixed some bugs and added some features...

I got the new firmware V05 last weekend, as I already mentioned. Ever since then, I can't seem to record a new video w/ my phone's camera. My phone's memory is only 76% full (42.28 MB/55.04 MB). I had 10 video clips and was at 79%. I deleted a video clip, but that still didn't do the trick.

When I try to create a new video (i.e. press the camera button twice and press OK to record), I get a "MEMORY FULL" error. This is bad and I think it's b/c of the new firmware. Can someone w/ V05 confirm?

I don't want to delete my remaining 9 video clips just to see if that solves my problem. Most of my video clips are from VCast and I would not be able to get them again. Also, I don't think BitPim can download some of these multimedia files via the file system.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if I heard you right but did you you say your phone's memory is 55.04 MB? I thought we are all capped off at 46.13 MB or are you also counting the 6.15MB of Application Memory? Is this due to the firmware upgrade? I don't see how software is going to give you more memory but if it did, that is awesome!
We vx8000 Owners have become masters at counting, saving, and reserving memory space, so an extra 9 MB memory changes the world.

Yes, it's now 55.04 MB. Obviously, more physical memory wasn't installed on the phone. I think what the new firmware did is combine the pool of memory between data files and applications. So it's now 55 MB, but even at just 76% utilization, I can't create any movies (but I can take and save pictures).

BTW, when I try to record a video (movie), it says I have 00/15, which means I don't have any stored movies. So I have no idea why I can't record a picture video.

I've downloaded QPST but can't find the drivers for the program to recognize it.
Actually I have downloaded it from here http://www.futuredial.com/support/d...USB_Drivers.htm but it just lets me download and wont let me choose a phone.

Where can I get the drivers for the phone to be recognized without purchasing a cable and cd combo considering I have the cable?

Anyone please help

Posted by: chkdg8

I heard mixed reviews about future dial. So I went ahead and purchased Handset manager from Mobile Action. Maybe what you can do is go here
http://global.mobileaction.com/download/download.jsp uninstall your future dial driver in run Mobile Action 9.0. I don't know if it will recognize your USB cable but I cant see why it should'nt. A cable is a cable right? Go ahead and give it a try. No problems as of yet for me.

I just got my Mobile Action cable and software/drivers and it's well worth the money to me. I finally got a USB cable that works right, the phone now works as a modem and the speed of moving pics and things is a bit better. I wish Mobile Action would have included an MP3 program for copying full songs to the phone. I still have to use bitpim for that. What's the deal with the lack of MP3 support?

I think it all comes down to loss of revenue for the carriers. They know what's going on and they can't put a stop to it. Going after the manufacturers for making data cables is a dead end street. They are are just selling product. So think about it for a minute, how many members are on this forum sharing wealthy information and modiying our phones? A couple thousand, if that? Now think about the other millions of people who don't know better and goes and orders ringtones, mp3s, wallpapers and games from their carriers. The money involved is astronomical!
So going back to your question, the support is there for all formats but it's not exactly advertised in the best manner. I'm sure all major carriers contact these manufacturers and give them a heads up on how a simple cable and program can hurt the entire industry if it were heavily advertised. You'll never see data cable commercials on tv. And if they are, not in metro cities. Read about what happened to the Motorola V710 here http://www.kirtlandpackard.com/v710/ and also here http://www.nuclearelephant.com/papers/v710.html. I had bought two v710s and returned them 3 days later because they had so many problems. So I got the 8000. That's why we should be grateful for sites such as this one.

beheise,

Windows does not know the phone is there, it knows the cable is there. You have a prolific chip in that cable. The driver you installed is for the cable and not the phone. If you want to use this as a modem you also have to install a modem driver for the phone. Try the vx8000 driver from the us.lge.com site.

You'll have to do a manual install of a modem since it won't be detected. I believe when you do that you'll have the chance to have XP search that com port for a modem. Try that.

Need some more info on your phone and what kind of cable and software you're using. :evileye:

Thanks. In my post, I said that I tried the LG 8000 drivers (I think ver 4.5 to be precise...I'd have to look again)...but I think where I see my problem lying is in the cable itself.

Here is what I have seen from reading through tons of posts trying to get this to work on mine (still unsuccessfully): [Please berate me if I am at all wrong]

- Futuredial Cable from Radio Shack: (has the bubble)
(These are used mainly for pulling and sending data to the phone like pics, wallpaper, tunes, etc)

- #19 (for vx6000) - Works, but a tighter fit...no biggie
- #50 (for vx6100/7000/8000) - fits fine
- NEED the Prolific driver in order for the CABLE to work

- Straight through cable: (no bubble)
(This will allow data transfer between the PC and phone for tunes, wallpaper, pics, etc...BUT will also allow the LG drivers (when instaled) to recognize the telephone and therefore be able to be used as a MODEM)

So...here I sit on the road in the middle of a move across the country...waiting until I get to my destination, where I will order a straight through cable and give that a shot....

I ordered the cable from ebay and it recommended the site to download the prolific drivers, which I did.

however when going to usb ports on my pc to see com1 ,2 or 3 I only see com1.

And don't see the phone being recognized in qpst

So I'm guessing the drivers weren't installed after unzipping them and trying to put them in manually in the add hardware wizard
if you could help CHKDG8 or anyone else that would be great

I connected my phone with qpst then i backed up my sound.dat (456bytes) I managed to put a midi as a ringer, i tried to upload a mp3 but the file was there but when i resetted my phone the mp3 wasnt there so i deleted the file, tried it again, qpst kinda froze so i end tasked it. Next step was tryin to put a mp3 as a tune but when i was backing up my aod.dat it was 0bytes.

Can someone tell me how many bytes their aod.dat backup is please?

Is the aod.dat suppose to be 0bytes because the phone didn't have any tunes to begin with?

Also, what is the correct way to add a mp3 as a ringer and filesize? I tried to add a 454kb 27sec mp3 as a ringer but it showed up on qpst but not on the phone after resetting, many thanx in advance

Also, I keep getting a server busy error and the options are switch to and retry. After pressing switch to, the start menu pops up, then after pressing both buttons a couple times the mp3 file is loaded on qpst, but when i reset the phone, it's still not there, dunno whats wrong.

I figured out what i was doing wrong. Each time you reset your phone, it makes a new sound.dat file so you would have to delete it again if you want to add another midi or mp3 on ringers. Best way is to add a couple of them i guess then reset the phone.

Still curious about the default aod.dat file though

Try re-installing your your USB driver. Make sure it's the correct one. I don't know which one you're using so I'm guessing here. Now, connect your phone and cable. Flip open your phone/press ok/go to "setting and tools"/go to "call settings"/go to "data settings/choose "PC Connection"/choose "RS-232C(COM Port)/select 115200.
Now open QPST Configuration. Hit the ports tab. Hit the "Add New Port" button. Now enter sequential COM numbers (COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4). You keep doing this until QPST detects your phone. Once your phone is detected, you hit the "Start Clients" button and choose EFS EXPLORER. That's it! Let me know if this works for you. For uploading go here http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...4&page=29&pp=15.
All this thanks to DERELEKT.

Don't worry noob. We've all been there. First off, the aod.dat file is 0 bytes by default. The reason why you should back-up these files is because you never know when your phone will start acting up. It's just a precautionary measure. All the files that you delete will come back after reset. Better safe than cell-less! Next, try renaming your mp3 like this (50cent.mp3 to 50cent.mid). You'll get a caution message but just click yes. What you can also do is compress your mp3 with any software. I use Nero's wave editor. But the number one thing you're doing wrong is that you're putting them in the wrong file. For ringers you go to dload/sound.dat and delete it. Then you place them in dload/snd. For tunes you go to dload/aod.dat and delete it. Then you place them in brew/shared/aod.

And for your last concern. Close all programs. You CANNOT do anything while uploading with QPST! Don't click on it. Don't even look at it! Just let it do it's thing. Upload as many files as you want in one session. When you're finished and it asks you if you want to reset your phone, I always click NO and wait untill it closes. Then I unplug and reset the phone myself. The reason why I do this is because when I used to click yes, the phone would reset and so would my PC. I'm sure this will help some.

Please forgive me for asking this because I know I saw it on here somewhere before. I have searched and searched and can't find it so I have to ask. Can someone tell me how to put a gif file on my 8000. I thought I saw a post on here a some time ago about how to put animated pics on the phone and they would move. If I change the extension I can load the pic but it does not move. If I leave it as a gif it doesn't show up at all. Please help if you can. Thanks for everything!

I don't touch the keyboard at all when I'm transferring the mp3 to the phone but I usually get a server busy error. Does this happen to anyone else? I gotta press retry like 19823498712381 times lol

To add images to the phone: by JTPRO

Connect the data cable provided to your VX8000
Load up QPST, in particular the EFS Explorer.
BACKUP and delete /dload/image.dat
Place image files (apparently BMP, WBMP, PNG, WPNG, JPEG, GIF formats) into /dload/img/
Reset the phone, the images will appear in the "PIX Gallery" in get-it-now.
If you want a picture in the gallery as wallpaper, highlight it and hit the right softkey "options"
and select #3 "Set As" and then choose an option.

*The internal screen size is 176x220 but actual picture size appears to be 176x144. I am fairly certain though that you can use any picture size and it will get rescaled automatically to fit.

Sometimes. But I realized that the only way I get this message is when I hover and click my pointer at it while it's uploading. That's why I tend to leave it alone. I know how you feel. You want to know if it's working and not just frozen right? Like I've mentioned somewhere on here, there should be some sort of timer or countdown that reassures you the program is working fine.

176x180 is the correct size for the wallpaper to fit perfectly on the inside screen. There was another thread that went into this for 100 replys and 176x180 is the correct size. This will allow the picture to be behind the grey bars and go all the way to both the red bars. The WHOLE screen is 176x220 but that includes the red bars so if the pic is this size it will have black bars on each side to compensate.
Good Luck!!
BTW FWIW I have NEVER been able to get an animated GIF to work either!!

What phone is the cable for? If it says "VX7000", you're fine since that cable and the VX8000's are almost completely compatible. The only difference is that the VX7000's data cable doesn't recharge the phone via USB, but that's no big deal unless you lost or broke the power adapter.

Are you sure it recharges it? When I plug mine in, the phone says "charging complete" (or something to that effect), even if after I unplug it, less than 4 battery bars are displayed.

Maybe it's the type of cable, too, where some 7000/8000 data cables transfer data and recharge either phone, whereas other (cheaper) cables might only transfer data.

Most likely, your data cable has 3 notches instead of 2, which means it probably won't snap into the phone. You can try to connect it to your phone, but if you have to force it in, don't. If you can't find another data cable, you can try shaving part of the cable connector to make it fit the phone. Some on this forum have successfully done so.

It's very easy. Assuming your phone is on, do the following.

1.) Press the right arrow to access the GET IT NOW menu.
2.) Press the right soft key for Info.
3.) Press "1" for Memory Info.

You'll see "Memory xx% Full", followed by:
xx.xxMB / 55.04 MB, where the "x" depends on what's on the phone. Note that the 55.04 MB is only for those of us who have firmware V05. The older V04 has it out of 46.xx or 47.xx MB, I think.

Just wondering, does anyone know how to save your contact list with the cable from the phone to the pc?

Also, can you dload any free games anywhere and upload to the phone?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it charges it. It doesn't immediately say charging complete, it charges for a while before saying it. Also, it was the cheap cable, 99 cents.

Posted by: Thundaar

WoW! 99 cents... that IS cheap. I paid 14.99 plus shipping for mine. Mine HAS the bubble, it DOES charge and it does work fine. The seller has all the drivers you could possibly need on his website.

I don't know what people mean when they say 'the bubble.' Mine has a rectangle in the middle of the cord, if that's what they mean. It came to under $8 after shipping

Check the option below that, if you're trying to see how much space you have to load mp3s and whatnot.

edit: oops, misunderstood what you were saying. You probably have v04 firmware, and v05 is out.

You have V04 rather than V05, which is the latest. I can tell that b/c V04 has BREW 2.1.3.8 whereas V05 has 2.1.3.11 (I think - I don't have my phone on me right now).

You can go to any VZW store and ask them for a free upgrade of the firmware. It'll take them about 1-1.5 hours to service your request.

Have you tried every COM port?

yea i made sure it was connecting to the com ports.. i think the problem might be with my phone. is there any noticeable changes on the phone itself that should happen when i plug it in? is there anything that must be set on the phone itself to make it work?

Well my cord makes my phone charge so that's the only difference I notice. The only thing I changed was in the secret menu, #4 Data, #3 Diag Baud(UART) set to 115200.

what is the portmap(data) and portmap(diag) settings you have?

Can't really check for exact names right now, but the USB ones. Should be defaulted.

has anybody bought their data cable from cellphoneshop.net and gotten it to work...if you have an explanation would be greatly appreciated....also can some one put up a link to the correct drivers to use for the data cable/phone

Posted by: trojanfan

Ok, I just got my cable from DWoodz and it charges my phone. I got drivers from LG. I am using BitPim 0.7.33. I go to settings and browse ports and get LG CDMA USB Modem at COM5. I select this one to use and I get the error message "No phone detected/recognized" when I try to detect the phone. Then I tried to go to the file system and get this error message "LG VX-8000 on COM5: The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew". I also tried QPST and it saw the port and modem but no phone was recognized. My data settings are RS-232C at 115200 and my computer is running at the same speed. I looked throught all the pages and couldn't find anything so please help me out.
Thanks in advance.
