Hi All
After playing around for days trying to get BitPim to work, I finally got my MP3's into my cellphone. They sound great but they will not play through the headset. So I go to my local Verizon Kiosk and they don't have a clue. So they send me to the main store where they have technical support. The guy tells me that they disabled the MP3's on the 8000. So I said I already have them on the phone. He asked how I did that and I said using BitPim. Then he proceeds to tell me that I just voided my warrenty by using Bitpim. He said maybe you can dig into BitPim to try and turn that on for the headset.
Doesn't say in the discription for the 8000 that it has an MP3 player?
I have seen other posts that talk about listening to mp3's through the headset. Does anyone know whats up with this.
Thanks

I have put a few MP3's onto my 8000 with Bitpim and they all play threw the LG Headset. As far as I know, you should not need to change any settings in Bitpim because it is most likely your phone with the problem.

Are you using the Headset that came with the phone?

Does the sound still play out of the speakers when the Headset it plugged in, or does it go quiet?

Are the songs set to mono or Stearo?

Those are the only things i could think of, maby someone else would have a better answer.

The sound still plays out of the speakers when headset is plugged in.
The headset seems to work when making calls.

Admiting to verizon that you were using bitpim or QPST was your biggest mistake. These are programs that aren't supposed to be in the hands of the consumer. All is not lost though. There's a very helpful thread on here that might answer some of your questions. It' more like a tutorial. I use QPST and I haven't had a problem yet.

Read this: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...4&page=29&pp=15

If you are still experiencing some setbacks and you really think it's your phone, then try going to a different verizon store and seek the help of a techie. Even if the store is out of your way, it might pay off. Don't mention anything in regards of programs. Play stupid. If it's a headset problem then you might want to try any set with a 2.5mm jack. This could be the problem, not the 8000 itself. They wouldn't disable the mp3 player that's for sure.

If they (verizon) don't offer any cables for the 8000, or software, and the phone is supposed to play mp3's, and there is no way to get them into the phone, then HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LOAD THEM with out bitpim???? Does vcast offer mp3's for download? you cant e-mail them to yourself because of the size. So what do they expect? The MP3 angel to come down in the middle of the night and put them there??? lol

Hi all, thanks for the info.
Well after going back to the verizon kiosk, the guy tried my headset on there 8000 and it worked. So I went to another verizon store and finally convinced him that my port was bad. He tried updating the software and killed the phone. So the FedEx'd me a new one the next day. Got the phone and the mp3's play through the headset. So it was the phone after all.
So now I have to load all my stuff all over again.
Thanks again for this web site, very helpful.
By the way I did over hear a salesmen talking about the mp3 capabilities on this phone but he said they haven't activated it yet. Well they do work, they just don't want you to know that, because they are offering it on the 8100.
Maybe thats why when I go to 3gupload.com it says truetones are not compatible with this phone.

Go to Walmart's site. They have thousands of tunes. Get them here: http://www.walmart.com/music?path=0%3A4104&dept=4104.

I must be an idiot. Let me explain.

My previous phone (LG VX1) had the capability of always being locked whenever it was turned on from the power off mode. I looked for the same (apparently poorly and briefly) for this phone (LG VX8000), but the lock only seemed to work at that instance. But once the phone was powered off, it would turn on and the security code would not be required.

So I decided to look at this again b/c it was bugging me. And lo and behold, I found that option (OK > Right > Right > 4 > 4 > Enter Lock Code > 1 > select On Power Up). I now have firmware V05. When I checked when I first got my phone, I only had firmware V04. This got me thinking: does firmware V04 allow you to lock the phone on power up? V05 definitely does.

i have sw version 04. How do i get the latest version of software? If i do this, does it wipe out everything i have saved on my phone?

Posted by: Thundaar

Nothing gets wiped out. They do make you sign a waver telling you they are not responsible if in fact everything does get wiped out though. But they said it almost never happens and don't worry about it.

take it to a verizon store with a repair center. It takes 45 mins or so.

Posted by: J Peezy

well that sucks. I just called verizon where i live and they only have software version 4. Is there a big differance in version 5?

Hi guys, I am a completely new member on these forums and a relatively recent owner of the LG VX8000 phone. I find all of the stuff that is possible with this data cable for free to be pretty amazing! OK, I looked through most of the 40+ pages on which data cable to get and have just gotten myself even more confused. My question is if this data cable and the included drivers are sufficient. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...eName=WDVW&rd=1 I am thinking of using BitPim to add mp3 files and videos onto my phone. Do I need anything else to get everything to work? Please bear in mind that I am a complete noob when it comes to cell phone editing like this.

Posted by: chkdg8

it's ok for the money but make sure it comes with it's proper driver. BTW, you can also use QPST to mod your phone. You can find it here: http://detn8r.pluslite.com/vx7k/dload.html.

Posted by: IceMan5043

Thanks! I just bought this item and am looking forward to playing around with it.

I sure hope it comes with the right driver!

You payed a little more than you had to, unless you really want those 10,000 ringtones and whatnot (part of the purpose of the cable is to be able to add your own ringtones so you can add whatever they have + whatever you want that they don't have )

Posted by: bleone9

Do you feel that you or another Cell educated person like yourself will have a LG 8100 Tutorial that teaches you all that was taught, like getting tone, pix, and Video's to the phone thru BitPim ? I know it would make allot of peoples day ! Thanks for all you've done !

Well the master becomes the student! I just got a new computer, and of course I cannot find the disk that has my drivers to connect my computer and usb data cable for my phone... do any of you guys know a place where i can get drivers for this data cable? Thanx

I Did a full WWW search and came up w/ natta. I hope eventually they'll be available on LG's Website. I thinking of just getting the office kit ( Cable & Drivers, + more, on 2 disk's ), thru VZW, like I did for my 7 K...

Posted by: bleone9

I just e-mailed some 30 sec. tones that I had used for my 8K, putting midi at the end, And when they reached the phone (8100), and saved; they were in Frickin QCELP Format !

i am wondering if anyone knows what a few things are in the service menu. Under MMS Setting cb support is off, subscribed is on, push notification is off. Do you know what these are? Also when i change the video recording time to 25 seconds and press ok, i go back into it and it resets back to 15 before i even leave the menu. People have said they have recorded for 25 seconds, why wont my phone accept 25?

Maybe they've recorded a penny while it rusts. This never works unless you hold the camera extremely still. Also, if too many colors are displayed it stops at 15 sec. This hack is not worth messing with but it would of been nice. Don't bother.

Having been concerned about the less than stellar battery life I went in search of the extended battery. Found it for $39.95 and they give you a free car charger for the phone of your choice. My battery came in retail packaging. Genuine LG 1700 mah extended battery. Fits in the holster that came with the phone. Hope this helps. Just looking to give back to the forum. I love my 8000.

Thanks for confirming. I must've misse that when I first when through my phone's menus and didn't bother looking for it again until after I had my phne's firmware upgraded.

I've never used QPST before. Do you think it can do more than what one can w/ BitPim? BitPim's been pretty good, but there are certain video files (the ones I got when I used to have VCast) that it won't let me d/l to my computer. Do you think QPST will? Thanks.

How's your new computer?

I posted a direct link to the driver a few pages ago. You can easily navigate to find it from http://us.lge.com.

Posted by: Brandondork

The computer is big upgrade, but yet somethings will never change. Like how things are spose to work. Thank you for the link to the driver but it's weird; the USB doesn't charge my phone when plugged in it just goes instantly to "Chargine Complete". Also I can't use hardly of the BitPim features. Only Contacts, Wallpaper and Ringtones I can access, the rest don't work. Anyone get past this problem?

Posted by: 987656789

I had a home (travel) charger that went to "charging complete" after a short time, never fully charged my battery - I just assumed it was a bad cable (because I could plug the phone into my OEM charger and it would continue charging until it was actually complete). Could your USB be the same?

Posted by: Sqube

Alright, I'm a ****ing idiot.

I've been reading and reading and reading, and I just can't figure out how to make the PC recognize the phone.

I've downloaded the drivers from LG. BitPim didn't recognize the computer.

I've downloaded the drivers from Futuredial. There wasn't actually an installer, so I didn't even know where to put the driver (if the file was even in the installation; I'm not sure if it was).

I tried just downloading Bitpim 0.7.33 (latest version) and seeing if it would recognize the phone straight, and it couldn't.

I know I'm a moran/n00b/all the rest of that, but I just need somebody to step-by-step let me know how to connect my VX8000 to my PC. From there, I can figure everything else out. But if I can't get the **** thing to recognize my phone, I'll never be able to get any of this to work.

Thanks in advance. Seriously. Thanks a bajillion.

I've done all the correct procedures to placing ringtones drivers, installing qpst/bitmap

and I keep on getting the same error which is
"There was an error enabling COM4. The Port may not be working properly or may be busy (-2147467259)."

Anyone have any ideas, all the settings are correct on the phone and I've tried it on two PC's

I'm assuming you mean BitPim. Have you tried other COM ports?

Posted by: IceMan5043

I also cannot get this thing to work at all. I even tried REFORMATTING my computer just now to see if that was it - it wasn't. My problem is at the very beginning: I CANNOT get my computer to recognize the USB cable! When I plug the cable in (both with and without the phone) Windows XP has a little blob for the cable by the clock and the Add New Hardware Wizard immediately comes up. I tried installing the Prolific drivers, the basic USBInstaller file, some kind of PCom thing, among other things. I MUST use the wizard, because Windows refuses to recognize the cable by itself (no matter what drivers I supposedly install.) I try to search for the closest INF file in the Wizard under advanced search but Windows continually says that it cannot find a driver. Even the automatic searches don't work. I'm completely at a loss as to what to do. If anyone has the EXACT INF file for what my computer says is "usb data cable" please post it. My cable has a tiny stamp on it that says LG 3200 if that means anything. The connectors fit perfectly with my 8000 however.

I went to www.dwoodsz.com and got the drivers there to work. I unzipped them all into a folder and told windows to look there when doing the driver install. Windows picked the correct driver from that folder and installed it. I then deleted the folder. I would un-install any drivers you have tried and try it the way I did it. I put ALL the LG drivers into that folder because I didn't know which one either, but when I put all of them thee windows did the work for me.
I just went to the site and they are still there. It is the left LG drivers icon on the download page. If you have winxp just put all the winxp drivers into a folder. there are 5 or 6 inf files there. Good Luck!

Posted by: IceMan5043

I tried exactly what you told me and still no results. The INF files were already all in that ONE Windows XP folder, so I didn't have to move anything. I go to advanced search, then browse right to that location and it doesn't work. I don't know what to do. Maybe there is some kind of plug and play functionality on my computer that isn't working correctly? I reformatted just now, so everything should be default Windows settings, right? Oh well, I'm lost...

i know this may sound stupid, BUT, i just ordered my vx8000 and i was wondering what the mobile "QPST" office kits did. am i able to put my own mp3s on it as ringtones? thanks!

What you said wasn't stupid.

The fact that you didn't read the thread? Kinda silly.
The fact that you used huge, bold, dark blue writing for no discernible reason? Also kinda silly.

I dont know if this was answered or not, but you know how the instructions in the beginning says "now start the process over" do you have to do that everytime you want to load a tune?

I followed the instructions, then repeated them. After that do i have to repeat them or can i just upload mp3's into brewed>shared>aod without doing the deleting and restarting?

first you shorten ur mp3s to lik 30 -50 sec

then follow this guide

To add ringtones to the phone:

1. Connect your data cable to the vx8000 (at the time of this writing, the
vx6000 and vx7000 futuredial cables at radio shack worked).
2. load up QPST, in particular the EFS Explorer.
3. BACKUP and delete /dload/sound.dat
4. place .mp3 or .mid files into either of the following directories:
/dload/snd/
/user/sound/ringer/ (you can create this folder if it doesn't exist)
5. reset the phone, the tones will be displayed in the ringtone section.
*Supplied by JTPRO

**Additional info supplied by VerizonStore

if you add "ringers" to your phone, the storage limit is around 6 to 10 mb
in that area. There is no warning or memory checker for that section. So
when you add "ringers" to your phone make sure you only add about 30 seconds
of your song to the phone since your phone only rings for about 30 seconds
or less. Also make sure the quality of your tunes are only about 64kbs
since the speaker in your phone can't play above that quality. Add the rest
of the songs you like to hear in your "Tunes" catagory which can hold up to
47 mb of songs which is alot of songs if you change your songs quality to 64
kbs instead of the normal 128kbs since the lg 8000 speaker can only play
64kbs quality or less and anything above that would be a waste of storage
space.

Hey, some great information on this thread. I have to be honest, I have not read it entirely, but I was wondering if anyone can help. I just received my LG 8100 today and I'd like to know if this program makes it so I can save my ringtones as ringers on this phone as well.

I had Cingular for years and have gotten used to how easy they made it to add programs/ringers/pics to your phone. I'd like to get the same results out of my new vzw phone.

Thanks for any help,
Mike

Yep, I have the same observations as you when I use BitPim. Except my phone spells "Charging" correctly.

BitPim 0.7.34 has been released.

Changes in 0.7.34

* Sanyo MM-7400 Increase wallpaper upload size to 176x220.
* Fixed shift+Add wallpaper feature.
* Improved Hex Editor.
* Fixed media name change notification to Phonebook contacts and Calendar events. When users rename wallpapers or ringtones, the changes will be propagated to all Phonebook contacts and Calendar events, which may require (re)syncing data between BitPim and the phones.
* Added TimeZone capability to vCalendar Import.
* Added "nth *day (ie 1st Monday) of every month" repeat feature to Calendar Events. Also extended this feature to other Calendar Import/Export capabilities.
* Added BCI file support (work-around) to wallpaper tab. Waiting for a wxPython fix to fully integrate BCI with wxPython & BitPim.
* Fixed Samsung SCH-A650/A670 SMS parsing error.
* Fixed Samsung SCH-A650/A670 Contacts Names Unicode error.
* Fixed Contacts & Calendar print problems.
* Fixed exception caused by righ-click in the File System View window.
* Fixed bug 878876: Toggle Phonebook Preview pane.
* Added the capability for users to view historical phonebook data.

how do you go about backing up all of your data using bitpim? i just want to make sure i have all the files stored just in case something goes wrong...also, is there any files that i can delete off my phone that i dont need that might free up some space? thanks!

To answer your first question, I use QPST and I'm sure it's very similar to some degree but like everyone else does, you have to do this one file at a time. Try right clicking the file you want to save and it should give you the option to "Copy from Phone". As far as question 2, don't even think about it unless you have the money to buy phones at will. There are files that are useless by them selves but others that you use often depend on them.

In Bitpim, Click on the filesystem tab. You'll see a + sign in the upper left-hand corner. Click on this.. It'll say "retrieving" then you'll see your phone's directory tree.
Rightclick on the top of the tree, (now a minus [-] sign) and select back up entire tree. After it reads all the files on your phone you'll get a "save" dialog. Select whatever folder you'd like to store such files, rename the root.zip to something useful like lg8000_20050724.zip or whatever. click "ok" (or "save")
Always best to do this before messing with anything on the phone in case you screw up

All this assumes you have your data cable connected to your phone with the proper drivers and your phone has been detected. Getting to this point is covered in numerous places in this tutorial as well as the forum at large.

Hope this helped.

ok this is for anybody that is having problems with thier computer/bitpim/qpst recognizing thier phone....when you plug your cable into the phone give it a second...if your phone isnt recognized try restarting your phone without unplugging it...then try starting up bitpim/qpst again and see if your phone is recognized....let me know if this works for anybody else

Posted by: norwegianbob

got a question...im having some complications when im putting ringtones on my phone...first of all when i put a couple songs on it eventually starts to not show the first few i put on..i dont know if its because i ran out of space but it just doesnt show them on my phone...it does however show them in bitpim or qpst when i go to the folder...i dont know whats up with that if anybody could let me know how to make them all show up on my phone thatd be awesome.
ok question 2...when i go to my application memory to see how full it is it always says the same thing even if i delete a large picture or a big sized ringtone the percent full does not go down...anybody know how to make it so it resets or something?

How do you download ringtones and images from your WAP?

Posted by: billybob 2.0

How can you delete ringertones you don't want or need any more. Not so much as the ones that come with phone but the ones i have added by emailing them to the phone.

I dont have a need for it now, but in the future i just wanna know how to get em off of there if i should changed my mind on something.

Flip open phone
Press the right GIN button
Press 1
Press 3
Scroll to your ringtone in question and the erase by hitting the top left "soft button"
That's it

I'm trying to upload MP3s tunes to my phone via bitpim. I've already had good luck with pictures and MP3 ringers, so I'm somewhat techno-literate. And, yes, I've searched for similar posts.

I'm following the directions in the Tutorial for Music/Tunes, but there is no "shared" tree (much less an "aod" tree within "shared") in my phone's "brew" tree. There is an aod.dat file in the "dload" tree.

What's up with that? Is it possible I have a different version of Brew? Has anyone else encountered this? Can I make the necessary trees in the Brew tree?

(The phone was purchased new in mid-March... Version.txt in the brew directory contains: "VX8000, VRZ, 06, 2.1.3.8, 22, 4581020, 23, 4581124, 20041218, PV 018 application")

Always best to do this before messing with anything on the phone in case you screw up

All this assumes you have your data cable connected to your phone with the proper drivers and your phone has been detected. Getting to this point is covered in numerous places in this tutorial as well as the forum at large.

Hope this helped.

Without including user data (e.g. pics, ringtones, MP3s, phonebook, videos, etc.), do you know how large that all-inclusive .zip file would be?

I'm getting a used VX8000 today that was purchased in April. I'm not sure if what software version is on the phone. Is it worth it to upgrade to V5 or keep V4 which is probably on the phone? I read that phones with V5 have a problem with lower volume ringtones.

I'm experiencing a problem with sending pictures, it keeps saying Invalid Destination Address but I don't know why. Any help appreciated.

OK, I have found NO way of recognizing this phone on my Windows XP computer. My Windows 2000 computer recognizes the data cable and installs the drivers but still cannot recognize the phone in QPST. So I have decided on trying a Radioshack FutureDial cable to see if that works.
http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...uct%5Fid=17-789
Is this cable ok? I noticed that the cable I ordered from Ebay says VX 3200 on it. Online at Radioshack.com I did not find any VX 6000 or VX 7000 cable and this one (the link above) is the closest match. So should I get this cable and try to install the FutureDial drivers on my computer? Is it worth it?

Posted by: IceMan5043

I have tried the Prolific drivers mentioned by your link with my current cable. Still no luck. I think I'm just going to go to Radioshack tomorrow and try out their cable. If it doesn't work I'll return both my Ebay cable (if I can) and the one from Radioshack. If it does work I'll e-mail the guy I bought the cables from on Ebay and maybe give bad feedback. Anyone else have any things I should try with my current cable before I try the Radioshack one? I am running Windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates and my computer is rather old - a Dell XPS B800r with a P3 800 MHz and 512 MB RDRAM. The Windows 2000 one also has all the latest updates and is running SP4 - a 733 MHz machine. Thanks for any help!

(Assuming you are using BitPim)

Click on the WALLPAPER tab.
Go to Data > Get Phone Data...
Make sure the Wallpaper box is selected

OK. I went to Radioshack and bought their cable. Voila! It worked! I guess the LG VX 3200 cable I got from Ebay was just not compatible with my phone and/or computer. I am happy now and have already transferred one song over to my phone using BitPim!

yeah i tried, he told me it was just a bit loose and there was nothing to actually tighten...and there is not enough of a problem to get a refurb.

also...is there any way to make the little green light on the outside of the phone blink all the time, such as other phones with status indicators? thanks for your help!

I have installed BitPim and the LG drivers for my vx-8000. I can transfer photos off of my phone to my computer with no problems. The problem I am having is that when I click detect phone it says no phone detected or recognized. It is bitpim version 7.34 is this normal or should it detect the phone? Everything else seems to work fine. I have tried changing com ports and that didn't help. Thanks

IT MAY SAY FULL BUT IT ISNT!!! the rest of the memory is for the music on demand! if you use a data cable to put your ringers on,it will start using the extra memory, mine is anyway!!! i have 41 ringtones on there and climbing! good luck

i wasn't having a problem with ringers, just images, i could put 90+ or whatever images i wanted onto it, but after deleting image.dat it would only show the first 37 in the gallery and 37 at the highest resolution.

if i go into the memory area, it says Brew 2.1.3.11, what is the most current version?

Here's what I've been doing and it has worked well (and so far safely.) Since I pay $10 for the IN-PLAN with 250 messages, I email all the ringtones (and wallpapers) to my phone. I think it's worth the money and I get a kick out of instantly being able to email a pic to a friend or to my website (via flickr.com - see my MOBLOG below.) This way I don't have to delete any .DAT file from the phone (which screws up any RING CALLER ID's you might have set up.) I use BITBIM to transfer pics off the phone but I never use it to delete anything off the phone. I do that later on the phone itself. If I want to transfer a video to the phone I first make up a few dummy files by just turning on the video camera for a few seconds. I then use BITPIM to OVERWRITE those files with the videos I want to put on the phone. Once again, no .DAT files to delete.

Yes, it's a little conservative but my phone is healthy.

Are you talking about the 8000? If you are, it all depends on where you placed your mp3s. /brew/shared/aod/ directory for tunes and /dload/snd/ for ringtones. Once you have that all in place just press the play/stop button on the front of your phone for 3 seconds.

what if i don't have a shared folder in brew?

Posted by: northpark7

I read the 1st few pages of this thread, and then searched for "qcp" with no luck.
I just cant read through 46 pages though.

Deal is, my 8000's display is screwing up. Verizon sent me a new phone but I want to back up the voice recordings I had on my old phone. I used bitpim to download the .qcp files from /dload/snd/
But when i try to play them it tells me theres an error in QCP parser. Bad packet or something. I recorded some voicemails from a while back and really need to save them.
Is there a way to save a recorded memo to your computer? So that you can hear it?

Posted by: G_G_L

all right, I didn't know what to do and i'm not exactly getting help around here, so i tried making my own shared folder in brew. it worked, and i got on a song on there, but i couldn't find it anywhere on my phone, so i guess that didn't work.

That's a neat shortcut to quickly play your MP3s by pressing the Play/Stop button for 3 sec. Thanks!

I have about 15 midi files on my 8000, all sent by email, and now it says that my memory is full, and wont allow me to save any more files. I have deleted about 3 files to make room, but nothing will help. All midi files are 30 sec clips. and there being 47 pages in this beast of a tutorial, i thouhgt i just ask.

You need a cable to put songs (not ringtones) into the phone. OR you can subscribe to vcast and then pay for songs!!!

My 2 phones did the same thin... shut down for no reason every once in a while during the course of the day. I went to V and they said there was an electrical problem with some of the phones and they gave me a new one. For the other 8000 I have, I tried to removing the battery for 10 mins and that seemed to fix the problem.... So I don't know which is the correct fix. Both phones have been upgraded software wise.

I've been MIA for a bit but am back on these forums. Anyway, the past month or so, I've been building a new PC and installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 (say that fast five times) that I obtained from an AMD computer show. Well, much to my chagrin, my VX8000's data cable couldn't be recognized by Windows and the drivers didn't work either. (I used both drivers - the one that came w/ my EBay data cable and the one available on LG's site.) So rather than fight it and compounded w/ my frustration of 64-bit Windows, I decided to downgrade to the standard 32-bit Windows XP Pro by rebuilding the disk. Happily, I now have now regained use of my data cable and can use BitPim once again.

FYI, I noticed that BitPim 0.7.36 has been officially released. Here's the version history.

* Added a dialog to display Outlook Calendar Items that failed to import.
* Added the capability to retrieve Voice Memo data from the LG VX-4650.
* Completed all Help files.

Changes in 0.7.35

* Fixed bug that caused the horizontal scrolled-bar of the phonebook tab to disappear after turning on & off the preview panel.
* Fixed a bug that caused old monthly event data to generate exceptions.
* Added the Today tab.
* Added Volume Adjustment feature to mp3 media conversion.
* Added a file caching capability when reading BREW EFS files from the phone. This feature avoids reading unchanged media files repetitively from phone.
* For SMS messages, added field 'Read' and 'Delivery Confirmation'.
* For Calendar Events, added field 'Vibrate'.
* For CAll History, added field 'Duration'.
* Added support to LG-VX8100 phones: phonebook, calendar, wallpapers, ringtones, text memo, call history, phone info, and auto-detection.
* Added support to LG-VX4650 phones: phonebook, calendar, wallpapers, ringtones, text memo, call history, and auto-detection.

The download file now exceeds 9 MB.

Glad you figured that the 64 bit is basically for high computation programs ... But I played with it a bit and with a lot of tweaking and getting the machine to run as if it was a 32bit systemm u can use some of the phonene programs and cables. Welcome back and hope to see you help many more people here ....

I got a new 8000 from verizon because mine messed up, but now when I upload mp3s, they dont show up on my phone. Im doing everything the same (instructions from page1). The new phone is firmware ver. 05

Did they change something in the 05 firmware? Why cant I put mp3s on it?

Posted by: regfman

I followed the tutorial instructions for how to make videos for the placing on the VX8000. I downloaded both the AVI format converter and Nokia converter recommended and followed the instructions using Bitpim but after uploading the video file I was getting a white blank screen on the phone when I selected the file.

It turns out that the Nokia converter generates a file with a .3gp extension. I noticed that the files listed under Brew/Media in Bitpim were .3g2. So I took the chance that maybe I just needed to change the name of the extention. It seems to have worked. I think the first page of this thread where the tutorial lists the steps involved to format videos and upload them should be updated to include this critical step. just a suggestion.

Thanks, yes, I wasn't happy w/ the hassle of Win 64, so I'm going to stay w/ 32-bit for at least another year or two.

I've been pretty busy, but hopefully I'll be able to keep up w/ HF on a semi-regular basis. So far, so good w/ my phone, although I still haven't been able to record video clips ever since I got my firmware upgraded to V05 a few months ago (memory full error). When I get a chance, I'm going to delete most of my multimedia files and see if that can clear up some space.

The alternative would be to go to a VZW store and see if they can do something. There are some video clips that i got when I had VCast that I can't download via BitPim and therefore I don't want to delete those files.

molsen, are you sure your driver is installed correctly?

Posted by: beowulf7

There's a new BitPim available. I downloaded and installed it. It refers to itself as ver. 0.8.00. However, the version history calls it 0.7.38. Which is correct? Here are the updates.

Changes in 0.7.38

* Fixed LG VX8100 wallpaper size.
* Added phone detection for unknown CDMA phones.
* Added full support for the LG VX5200.
* Improved UNICODE support
* Added full support for the LG VX4500.
* Added support for the Sanyo MM-8300
* Fixed Calendar tab background redraw problem.
* Fixed Phone File System Dir Listing problem.
* Samsung SPH-A620 Wallpaper readout now includes pictures in wallet and downloaded images/screensavers
* Preserved 127 in Help htd files.
* Fixed LG VX8100 PhoneBook support to allow 'W' character (Wait) in dialstrings.
* Added LG G4015 phone support.
* Accommodated .ics file extension for vCalendar Import.
* Added Calendar and Memo support to the LG VX8000 phone.

It's nice to see calendar and memo support for the LG VX8000 (finally!).

Hey chkdg, how's it going? I've been less active on HoFo, but still peeking in occasionally. I haven't done any hacking lately on my VX8000, but am saving a bundle w/ all the pics I've been able to transfer via the data cable and BitPim. Too bad the VX8000 has been relegated to the back pages in this sub-forum ever since the VX81000 joined the LG/VZW scene.

No s<h>,i"\t. Have you been reading on all the problems 8100 users are having? Way more than the 8000 ever had. I was so tempted to buy it when it first hit the market but something told me that it wasn't going to be a good idea. I knew something much better was going to hit and bamm, we have the 9800! I'm kinda torn between this one and the treo 650. The treo is more for business apps which is cool but the 9800 wins hands down with it's entertainment value. I'm glad your still on because I've learned a lot from you and you can continue to spread the knowledge onto the noobsters!

I've briefly scanned some random VX8100 threads and have read about their problems a little. Their camera also sucks compared to ours. I'm glad I can say the VX8000 is the best LG phone VZW has, even today. But the VX8000 is no longer available from VZW.

I'm keeping my phone for the entire 2 years I signed the contract. Well, I guess I can technically can upgrade my phone after 22 months instead of waiting the full 24 months. I hope there are more Samsung options available by 2007. And there better be phones w/ multi-MP digicams that can take good pictures at night and have optical zoom.

Glad you learned a trick or 2 from me and I see that you've imparted your knowledge quite well to others. I'll stay semi-active in the LG and VZW forums for the forseeable future, as my time allows. If I learn any new tricks, I'll definitely share.

Hey bitpim version are you ready.....

8.00 is out! It also has full support for the 8100

Wonder why they never had full support for the 8000?
Oh well it still works enough to get whatever in/out of the phone as needed!

I wonder if I need to replace my 8000 are they going to give me an 8100? Or do they have tons of reserves?

I just realized it isn't stickey any more. We just need to keep posting and posting so it shows up above all the 8100 forums!!

Posted by: neohex

With regards to BitPim, to be fair they did add memo and calendar support for the 8000 in the newest version Hopefully they'll add more support in the future.

Posted by: Thundaar

Thanks Neohex... I'll have to check that out! I don't use the calender so I wouldn't have noticed it.

Just in case you guys didn't already know, version 0.801 is out now. I helped them get SMS and Call History functions in there, so we should be all good now!

Posted by: Thundaar

Thank you.... Thank you very much!!! (Elvis)

Posted by: Thundaar

Just had to replace my battery. It started to not even last a whole day, so I went to the V store and they tested the voltage. They said WoW! it sure is high! 4.2 volts! He said 3.6 is the norm thats why it is discharging so fast. They were out of stock on the battery so they gave me an extended one instead! Now it doesn't even go down at all by the end of the day!!

They have been working hard to get more features into BitPim. It seems that LG is the phone of choice lately!! Glad mine is one!

Hi i dont post much in here but my friend has a vx8000 and she likes it so much she is not willing to sell it and upgrade even if i give her $200. I went to many stores but the two ones that have the best selection were Circuit City and Best Buy. I also went to the Verizon Store over a period of two months checking always for this phone and every store tells me all they have is vx8100 in that category i get a fat paycheck at the end of the week and if i cant find a vx8000 for sale i will prolly buy the 8100 or Samsung SCH-A970. the Samsung has a video cam built in the left sided hinge. but i will prolly end up getting the 8100 bc i love lg so much does neone kno of a special place i should be looking for the 8000? thanks

Posted by: jseah

The 8000 is a discontinued model (discontinued for Verizon). You won't have any luck trying to find it at Verizon, Circuit City or Best Buy. Maybe you might be able to find it at a smaller indirect dealer.

Posted by: fusioncore

Ok, ill look a for the rest of the week but i just read alot about the 8100 and i guess it doesnt sound so bad so ill prolly give it a trial and i can always return it. and oh yea i have a couple questions...i currently have a moto v265 (i dont really like it beacuse of the small screen and uselessness in sunlight) and when i buy the vx8100 (most likely from Best Buy) i need to get on verizonewireless.com and go to activate phone and that should transfer my number and my service with all the messaging and pix options im paying for etc..rite? or do i need to call customer service and have them do it. The website asks for the location code and the order number off the order receit. If i buy the phone from Best Buy will i get this information? I kno that if i dont i can for sure call custumor service and they can switch me. And my last question is when i do activate my new phone my current phone (v265) will be deactivated and i wont have to worry about paying for that anymore??...i will just have a new phone with the same service im paying for right now? Thanks

There is a thread here about the new update. Unfortunately, no one has any information about what the update includes. Apparently its some invisible stuff and something was taken out of the service menu, but no one knows for sure yet.

Well, if you don't get the codes you need to activate on the internet (which you probably should), then you can just call customer service. That is, IF Best Buy doesn't switch it for you, which they can. Basically, the switch just requires a ESN number change, so all of your features and and your plan will just be on your new phone, and the old one will be disconnected.

If you're buying the phone from a Verizon dealer, they should activate the phone for you and transfer your phone book over.......that is unless you're buying it from Best Buy online. The new phone will essentially replace your old one and your old phone will be deactivated. Note, even though the phone is deactivated, it is still usable to dial 911.

ok thanks for all the help. i will try and go this weekend and get the phone. i am nto ording it from best buy online im just gonna go to the store nearest me. Thanks a ton.

If you feel courageous, you can always try buying a LG VX8000 phone off EBay. Or scour the "for sale" forum here. From what I've read, I would not take the VX8100 over the VX8000, even in a straight-swap. VZW really screwed up by discontinuing the VX8000 altogether.

Thanks for the link to that other thread. If anything, hopefully it will fix the video recording bug. Ever since I upgraded my phone's flash from V04 to V05, I have not been able to record video clips with it b/c the phone tells me the
