I have the LG8000...I followed the listing on how to upload songs to my MP2 using Bitpim...I was to delete a certain file...well I did just that but I deleted the file it requested from Brandondork and I deleted the next file down...what can I do if anything? I can' upload any more songs onto my phone at this time...I keep getting an error message...either my COM isn't correct or I am thinking I messed it up. Can I reload my phone and if I do so will I loose everything?

Posted by: beowulf7

I got a new (probably refurbished) LG VX8000 phone to replace my current one. I'm currently transferring over my multimedia files (a bit of a PITA). In addition to being able to delete dload\aod.dat to refresh the MP3s on the phone, you can delete dload\image.dat to refresh the picture you transfer to the phone and delete dload\sound.dat to refresh the ring tones you transfer to the phone. All of these files are automatically created (generated) when you reboot the phone.

how do I reboot the phone back to all the factory settings?

I couldn't find a one-click way to do this. So I first deleted all the contacts (OK > (Right) > (Right) > 4 > (Enter security code) > 4). I then reset the settings to default ((OK > (Right) > (Right) > 4 > (Enter security code) > 5). I also deleted all my text messages and custom MP3s, pictures, and ring tones.

I just had my (new VX8000) phone's software upgraded from V05 to V06. It apparently went smoothly.

Mann... bitpim is acting stupid... I dunno what to do...everthing was working fine til' i upgraded.. I own the vx9800 and it will only let me get like files off the phone like from the filesystem log(i think thats what it's called). I just wanted to continue to write ringtones to this phone.. can somebody help me out and let me know what's going on... thanx! Here's what it's saying(i was testing to see if it'll let me get my phone book).

Is there a way to change the image that comes up when you flip open the phone so it dosent have the verizon logo there? I really really hate that damn thing and want to put something of my own there but i dont know where it would be located.

I assume you already have a picture on the phone that you want on the main screen of the phone. Here's what you need to do.

1.) Press "OK"
2.) Press (right arrow) twice
3.) Press "3"
4.) Press "3"
5.) Press "1"
6.) Select a wallpaper you want to use and then press OK

And if all else fails verizon sells the software cd & cable bundle in their store for your phone for $40.00 . It doesnt get easier than that.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I don't know how to change that. And that reminds me and is a pet peeve of mine. With my old phone (LG VX-1), I was able to talk on the flip phone and if I wanted to check the time, I'd simply look at the external screen. Now with this phone, I can't check the time from the external LCD b/c of the stupid VZW logo that you mentioned.

If someone finds a hack, I'd also like to know.

I read this whole guide with the questions that i wanted answered being asked at least twice but not directly answered. I even read most of the side links that were posted in this guide (ive read all of the beta test guide.) In anycase, Does the v05 (or 06) fix the "memory full" bug? I had (since changed it till i find an answer) 3.4MB in ringones (13 ringtones) in my usr/sound/ringer folder. From everything that i read, i should still at least have about another 1.5-2MB to work with. It shows 1.29/6.15 MB used - 20% full. If you add that to the 3.4MB ive already used, you get about 4.6MB used up. So i should still have some space to work with and i can add extra ringers to the directory no problem but they just dont show. My ringers are all .mid at 64 bitrate. I have one 50sec and one 41sec ringer but the rest are under 33sec. So i ask again, does this v05 (or 06) update fix this problem? I have no tunes in my aod folder. and only 6 pics at around 42Kb each. Thanks in advance ^^

Posted by: iowapilot

I updated my phone to V06 last week. Didn't notice anything different other than losing the lag of the camera (probably in the V05 update).

Once I updated my phone I took a few pictures and was extremely disappointed when I downloaded them through bitpim. They were extremely grainy and looked like pics from my wife's v3c. Well, today I finally realized that ISO was set at 1600 and not auto. Once I switched that back the pictures look freakin great again.

I would love to move up to a new phone with expandable memory, but this camera is just too great for me to let go of. Maybe this year we will see a new phone with an exceptional camera from Verizon.

Posted by: webmonger

I upgraded to V6 yesterday. There could be an improvement in the photo quality. hard to say. I also tried to do a before and after photo. Nothing 100% conclusive.

Memory info has not changed from my perspective.

I did notice that the symbols have changed slightly under the T9. SP and LF were moved, or they added more or something.

Not sure if the udate fixes that problem but I have seen your issue. You can take the phone back to verizon as my cousin did and they will 1st attempt or say they did to fix and then give you a new phone. Well to make a long story short he changed his phone 7 times before he finally had 1 working correctly.

can you still email ringers to the phone from like 1234567890@vzwpix.com

In just the past week or so, BitPim went through a few upgrades to ver. 0.8.11. I had been running 0.8.08 prior to today. The main screen has a new look-and-feel. Here are the last few updates.

Changes in 0.8.11

* Fixed bugs with new GUI, getting call history, phonebook column picker and outlook import filter.
* Fixed exception when outlook is not installed for Windows.
* Fixed exception when trying to access blocked files.
* LG VX7000: Cope gracefully when updating ringtones and the index says a file exists that doesn't actually exist.
* Add support for LG6190 (Bell Mobility).
* Fix bug writing phonebook on LG-PM225.
* Added Data Recording feature.

Changes in 0.8.10

* New look and feel for BitPim main screen
* Fixed bug in 0.8.09 that caused exception in media conversion

Changes in 0.8.09

* Samsung A620/A740/A840: Add capability to upload wallpaper to phone. Fix writing of calendar alarm times. (Rounds down to 0, 10, 30, or 60 minutes).
* Add read support for LG-PM325 phonebook, calendar, wallpaper ringtones, call history and SMS.
* Added new toolbar to main window.
* Added Call History export to CSV format.
* Add phonebook read/write support for LG VI-5225 (STI-Mobile).
* Import Outlook Contacts:Added contact category priority filter.
* Add support for LG6200 (Bell Mobility).
* Added Phone Setting Wizard feature.
* Windows libusb is no longer looked for on Windows. (To use libusb on Windows, you had to have a device driver first. And if you had a device driver, you'd have no need for libusb.)
* Mac The native Mac online help system is used for BitPim help. (Note: if the help viewer is slow or has other issues then that is a known issue and nothing to do with BitPim)
* Mac The top pane of the comm port selection dialog would startup zero sized so you wouldn't know it is there. Now forced to be shown.

Verizon has a new version 06 out? I didn't know that!!
Why would they bother with a phone they have scrapped?
I need a little rubber bumper down under the # key and I can't get it anywhere. They want me to replace my phone under the warrentee. That will cost me $50.00! for that little rubber bumper!!
I just can't figure them out...
Maybe I'll steal one of those bumpers from my kitchen cabinets and glue it there?!

Now I need to update my phone to ver 06 and see what that does!!!

Why the heck does VZW need that little rubber piece in the phone? I know what you're talking about, but I thought those rubber pieces' only purpose was to protect the phone itself when you close the clamshell (i.e. provide a little padding between the plastic/metal).

Posted by: Thundaar

They don't need it I do!! My phone slaps every time I close it because the bumper is missing. If I want it replaced through VZW,,,,, I would need to use my warrentee insurance plan which would cost me the $50 deductable.
Sorry If I wasn't clear before....

HAPPY EASTER!!!!

You can take an eraser and cut out your own rubber piece . have done that several times for various phones. So now there is your fix for less than $1.00

What an awesome idea!!!!!!

I am ripping the eraser of my pencil as I am typing!!!! I can't believe I didn't think of that myself!

Should I cut it tight and force it in, or cut it right and glue it in?? Which way did you do it?
Thanks again!!

On my 14.5-month-old LG VX8000 cell phone, the OEM leather case I got for it has a clip that attaches to a belt, etc. Well, the clip part of it broke over the weekend. I was going to buy a replacement OEM leather case from VZW's site (it was only $5!). But my father suggested to check out his former phone's leather case (LG VX4500, I believe). Good thing I was at my parents' house for the weekend. And sure enough, I was able to use my OEM leather case and his phone's clip.

Before I tried the VX4500, I tried the clip from my former phone - LG VX1. However, it was a little too large and didn't fit well in the VX8000's OEM leather case.

okay...I tried a search, and started looking through this thread...but at 56 pages..it's starts to get tedius.

So please forgive me if I'm asking a duplicate question.

But when I first got my V, it was around superbowl time...and I got V-cast for free for a month. I downloaded a bunch of ESPN/Fox sports clips on the Steelers. But can't seem to get them off my phone, and onto my computer. Is this possible?

I've looked at all my folders in BitPM, and I dont' see these files anywhere...I'm assuming they're hidden/protected/etc.

I can see my mp3's, and some short video clips I've transferred to my phone...but I can't see the sports clips I downloaded anywhere.

Is this not possible?

I was never able to get VCast videos off my phone via BitPim. However, I did find what directory they were located in. BitPim just couldn't download them onto my computer. Perhaps QPST may work better, but I've never used that program before. So yes, I think VZW cripples VCast videos to prevent them from being able to be downloaded onto a computer; at least via BitPim.

Posted by: Thundaar

I was never able to get the vcast vids out either... Must be crippled somehow. Anyone else have any luck?

Seriously! I just noticed this a few days ago. It's not like ver. 0.9.00 has a new interface or major features. It seems like an artificial bump up from 0.8.x to 0.9.x. Hopefully ver. 1.x will at least be noticeably modified (for the better).

* Add feature to move media from one origin to another (right-click file to move).

* Fixed incorrect wallpaper sizes on LG-VX8100.

* Internal storage of media moved to database, media files now stored in origin directories.
* Added patch to prevent 0 size ringers when getting ringers from phones which block reading (e.g. 8100) when the ringers were previously uploaded using bitpim.
* Fixed auto-detection for phones that have 2 comm ports.

I just got a LG XV8300 and went to eBay to get a USB cable. I bought one that was listed for XV8300 but it did not fit the connection to the phone (the 8300 is narrower than the 8000). Is the 8300 just too new to get a cable yet or should they be on the market. Thanks for your input.

This is an 8000 thread, not 8300. You can use the data cable for the 8000 and shave off the middle tab or force it in. (I have a data cable for the 8000 and forced it in on my 8300 and it worked fine.)

I got the notification that BitPim has been upgraded to ver. 0.9.04. I promptly upgraded it and have not experienced any issues with my LG VX8000. As time goes by, I'm becoming even more and more trigger happy w/ my phone's camera and video capabilities.

Here's the change file for the latest BitPim.

Changes in 0.9.04

* Add support for LG-VX8300 (Verizon). Calendar not supported. Phonebook ringer and wallpaper assignment not supported.
* Fixed bug: Calendar read raised exception.
* Fixed bug: LG VX7000 media read raised exception.
* Yet another attempt to fix LG VX6000/6100 auto-detection.

Hey jsja, good to see you back. What I meant is that as time goes on, I seem to be taking more and more pictures and videos. In other words, the novelty of being able to take pictures and videos has not worn off for me. I haven't learned of any new features on the phone. Although my next task will be trying to get free WAP access, as indicated in some threads here.

OK fine, I'll say hello to you as well.

Getting back kind of on topic, I had a weird dream last night. In my dream, my phone (which was this one, VX8000) somehow developed a partially cracked screen in the lower lefthand corner. I don't remember dropping it (in the dream). I couldn't access any of my pictures and speed dial didn't work. I could only receive calls or make calls by manually typing out the #s. And the screen didnt' light up, so I couldn't view it in the dark. I was all PO'ed about it (in my dream) b/c I knew I couldn't get a new phone until my contract was up, so I was contemplating on what to do. I was also thinking that I should've gotten the extended warranty. I woke up before I made a decision. Yeah, weird dream, and one that I hope is not foreshadowing anything!

Heh, right. Good thing I have the OEM leather case for my phone, which has protected it from a slight drop on more than one occasion.

Yeah I have to give it to the original case for the phone ... Very sturdy and has withstood the test of time until my phone got ran over ... But my cousins is still going strong 3 antennas and 4 batteries later....

Crap, you ran over your case? Yeah, it probably won't hold up to that.

The belt clip part of my OEM case actually broke one day. But luckily, I was able to use my father's LG VX4500 (or VX4400, I forgot what he used to have) phone's case's clip, which fit in there. My original LG VX1's clip didn't fit, so they're not all the same size.

^ I see. You need a ToughPhone to withstand running over, LOL. (I'm making a reference to the Panasonic ToughBook laptops, which can be run over by SUVs and they'll still survive.) How do you like T-Mobile and Cingular compared to VZW?

Hi guys, its been a while. I'm glad to see a few of the old timers still around, though there are some notables missing.

My VX8000 recently broke. It just developed amnesia on July 4th (I dont remember how it happened ) and doesnt remember anything: I lost all my contacts, pix, vids, tunes and tones. I took it to the store and they couldnt fix it cos it had forgotten its ESN as well.

Oh well, I got a new one in the mail yesterday (I was pissed I had to pay for it since the warranty ended last month). So i'm kind of starting from scratch with my phone. I was happy to see there's now a Mac version of Bitpim so this time around, I'm doing it on my Mac. If that doesnt work, I'll go back to my PC. Wish me luck

EDIT: Wait, so I'm a n00b all over again? Ha! wtf? What happened to all my old posts???

Damn, sorry to hear you destroyed your old phone.

Was your username something else? I don't think I remember you; sorry.

This is kind of funny. The next e-mail I had after the subscription reminder from HoFo about this thread was from VZW pimping their $1.99/mo. Backup Assistant. LOL

I'm now getting a little tired of my VX8000. I mean it's very useful and all (and better than any of my previous cell phones). However, it's lack of expandable memory, lack of combined memory, and slow responsiveness is starting to irk me. For example, the memory won't let me utilize more than ~35.2 MB (out of 54.86 MB), or 64%. After that, I get a "Memory Full" error.

Also, is there a way to lock the digital zoom so that you can't accidentally utilize it? I noticed that my zoom somehow moved 1 notch to the right, which makes pics a little blurrier. I want it to be permanently on 0 zoom b/c digital zoom sux (optical zoom is much better, but the VX8000 doesn't offer that).

I'm going to read FAUguy's reviews of the Samsung A990 and LG VX8500 when he gets around to publishing them.

I don't know what other cell phones VZW has in the works that will be released in 4Q2006 or 1Q2007.

Will do. I am already leaning toward going w/ Samsung for the first time ever b/c I found out the VX8500 will have an ancient 1 MP digicam. But maybe LG has something else in the works that will be released over the next 1/2 yr.

WOW .. I was away .. to be simple I like t-mobile minutes but their service has fallen down .. Cngular roll over is the only thing i like about them .. VZW service is better but the minutes suck and I ahte a phone I cant take my chip out of and just use another phone ...

I figured they'd all have their pros and cons ... advantages and disadvantages. So far, VZW has given me the best signal service. But it does kind of stink that they don't offer earlier nights and their phones are generally not as "desirable" as other providers'.

Yeah I know that feeling ..... If they would match my present t-mobile plan and get a better phone selection I would be sold on them ....

No prob., you'll get your chance to play with your Chocolate.

I'm not ready yet to get the A990; my contract w/ the VX8000 doesn't end until Feb. 2007 (which means I get upgrade in Dec. 2006). I just hope there's a better phone available by VZW (either by LG or Samsung) by then.

well i had a camera problem with my vx8000 it would not come up , only a black screen so i went to the verizon store and they said it is still under the 1 year warranty so the sent me a new one well that was ok

i also wanted to say that i figured out if you have to many songs on your phone it wont let you record any more vids even if you have only 1 or 2. whats weird about it is you can have it full of vidios before you added the songs to the aod folder and it will alow you to play them (vidios) you can delete them all but it wont let you record until you delete enough songs from the aod floder. hope tha helps someone.

well its has been nice to get the info on this thread but ill be leaving it for good now because i ran my vx 8000 over with my 89 dodge ram pickup i mved it to blow off the drive way with a blower and had my phone on my left side witch i always carry on my right but the blower kept hitting it when i moved the truck back to it spot i gazed with shock and harror at my 8000 laying in the driveway and said man that would suck if i ran it over and shure enough when i picked it up it was off i turned it back on and it had both lcd's busted. but stll worked fine.

i do have insurance praise God and they sent me another phone, i had a choise of 2 phones becase they cant give me an 8000 because there no longer made 1 was a samsung and the one i picked is the vx8300 they say its a better phone but i liked me old 8000 better because the reason i wanted it in the first plce was the big buttons.

and my data cable wont fit aaaagghhhhh! o well thanks to all that provided info hear. and God bless you all. jim

The only real difference I noticed from the dozens of upgrades I've made is the new GUI that came with 0.8.x and 0.9.x.

One feature that I would find really handy would be batch downloading/uploading of pictures, videos, and music/ringtones. Right now, if I take 20+ pictures, I have to d/l one at a time. I don't know if that's a limitation of BitPim or if the phone just doesn't support batch mode like that.

Hmmmm ... Does the new bitpim allow you to view the files like a hard drive .. If so you can drag them ... No phone to test the new one on atm so I have to ask ...

There's a filesystem, but you can only select one file at a time. Here's a screenshot of the BitPim 0.9.07 filesystem.

Thanks. I still haven't tried QPST yet. I heard it's "riskier" to use than BitPim, but arguably more powerful. I will def. check it out, if not w/ this phone, then the next phone I get when my contract is up for renewal.

one wierd thing about bitpim vs qpst [in my old 8000's case or should i say both 8000's] no mater what ver# bitpim only detected my 8000 one or two times but always worked, qpst saw my 8000 every time but it showed the wrong phone number. crazy huh?
bit pim has a nice GUI but i always use the file system.

Posted by: jaminjimlp

I did a full back up of the entire file sytem when i received my warranty replacment BEFORE IT WAS PROGRAMED WITH MY INFO!!!

ANY BODY THAT WANT'S A COPY JUST PM ME with your email and i'll send you a copy.

Posted by: jbarlow95

the version of bitpim that I was redirected to does not have an option for the vx8000 after I downloaded it. what should I do?

That is weird why BitPim didn't recognize your VX8000. Mine has always worked since ver. 0.7.x.y. I'm not using the latest 0.9.x.y. Yes, I also use the file system, despite the nice GUI.

I'm assuming you d/l'ed the latest version of BitPim. It should work w/ the VX8000. Are you sure your phone's USB driver is correct?

also can someone tell me how to put gif's on my phone with bitpim 9.0.7. i took a pic they did the overwrite thing but didn't work. showed up on my phone as a jpg with no pic

Posted by: ambientstyle

I've been using this style usb from infinitewireless for quite some time now and it works great... They make the bold claim of being the only one to properly charge your phone to LG specs with a voltage regualtor. Where as other brands just jump the usb power to the charge port on your phone which is 5v and the phone is supposed to charge at 3.3v...

Look at the pictures at the bottom of the auction showing the guts of thier chargers and other brands of chargers...

Anyone know if there is any truth to this or have any other info on LG charging voltage/method requirments??

Still Love my VX-8000.. Solid Phone.

It's the first phone I used w/ BitPim, but I'm sure many others had used older phones w/ BitPim.

I agree infranview is a sweet program ..... Got 1 question and until you just spoke I am also trying to figure out why he wants a gif image for a picture actually thought he meant animation ... LOL

Posted by: jsja

the problem is not to make a gif it's making bitpim & my phone recognize it. i have 3 pics of my kids. i used Easy GIF Animator v3.5 to make it a gif so i could put on my phone. that way it will flash all 3 pics

Posted by: beowulf7

I mis-hyperlinked IrfanView and HF won't let me edit that post. The URL is supposed to be http://www.irfanview.com.

I've never tried to put an animated GIF on my phone. I didn't know it supports it, and apparently, it does not.

Posted by: jsja

i remember people talking about putting them on their phone before. i just dont know how to do it

Posted by: emunity

Is it possible to flash you vx8000 with bitpim or QPST software?

Posted by: Muerte_X

I don't think I've ever tried to put a gif on my phone with bitpim. But if I send one to my phone in an email, it works fine.

Sorry, when I said gif, I meant animated gif. I'm just used to them always being animated.

Yes, I have, and I've used them as wallpapers, they go a little slow, but they do work. I've sent them through email as I said in my previous post. Never tried using bitpim to put a gif on my phone.

I have a VX8000.

Posted by: emunity

Does anyone know which file or folder that has this file which keeps these settings?

I transfered my Phonebook and ringtones using the LG Download application and for some reason it did not link the ringtones I had associated with each of my contacts in my phone book.

All of the ringtones are at back to default. If I could find this file I could copy it into my new phone filetree.

THanks

can anyone help with this....running latest bitpim...never had this problem before "LG-vx8000 on usb.....: the phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew." Thanks for any help.

What phone did you replace it with? I will soon be eligible to upgrade mine via NE2, but after almost 2 years, the only VZW cell phone that has a better digicam is the Samsung A990 (3 MP), which the last time I checked, is way overpriced. I don't care about Bluetooth but do wish the VX8000 was capable of external flash memory. : \

Well my friend they will hopefully soon come out with a phone worthy of you ... If not may be time to change carriers ... But there may be a small hope for you ... Verizon does have a phone or 2 witth a sim card .. Which in theory would mean you could get that sim card and then place it into the phone of your choice ......
