I really want to get one of these so i can unlock it to use for Cingular, does anyone know a good source to get the phone new and still in box with warranty?

TIA

Looks like either ebay or amazon.com

I found quite a few new refurbished ones on ebay. Anyone have any experience on buying any refurbished electronics? Curious on factory warranty and condition..

don't get the refurbished ones, you can buy new phones for the same price. i just got a new one for $260 shipped. i feel ripped off because i was watching other auctions and one of them sold for $240!

can I ask where you got this for 260? Also, is it easy to unlock the phone for cingular?

Thanks!~

I just found out I get like a 45% discount on phones since I work for Chrysler the only thing is I have to sign up on a AT&T plan but I can get the phone with a 1year contract for $200 shipped..

Theres no way that I'll be able to beat that and the guy over the phone said I can call and switch to a shared plan to get my wife on a plan also. I wanted to go with Cingular but this is too good of a deal for now I suppose..

Beware Mr. DSL, it is not entirely easy to get the shared plan with the data plan. With the Audiovox 5600 you are supposed to get the expensive data plan ($49.99 less the discount for working at Chrysler). If you get that plan, then the policy is reportedly that you cannot have a shared plan.

I had a real hard time with the NBO website trying to place my order for this reason. Then I called a bunch of times, and after awhile I got someone who added the $25 data plan which is incorrect. But that allowed me to get the shared plan. It has to be one of the dumbest policies I ever heard of.

Yup your right but I don't have the data plan so they told me I had to wait 60 days and then I could switch to a shared plan..

I got the 5600 through a corporate discount on AT&T. Two weeks later, I unlocked the phone and migrated my account over to Cingular. I have had no issues.

Unlocking is simple. Buy the unlock code and instructions here

Your MMS settngs can be changed using the info found here.

Also, there is a link to a .pdf file which describes in perfect detail how to remove the AT&T branding from the phone (mMode, etc.) and how to Cingularize it. I forgot where the link is, but I have the actual file. PM me and I can email it to you.

Be careful of one thing. If you ever have to get a new phone under warranty, you have to call Audiovox directly and they'll gladly ship you one. Cingular warranty support has never heard of the phone. AT&T won't deal with you because your account is "cancelled." Audiovox will charge your credit card $300 dollars until you send the old phone back. However, the one they send you will again have all the AT&T branding and will be locked. You can not simply pop in your Cingular SIM card into the new AT&T-only phone and expect it to work. The way around this is to SAVE YOUR AT&T SIM CARD. You'll have to put that into the new phone to gain access to it. Then you'll have to unlock it again using the link above. Once that's complete you can replace the AT&T SIM card with your Cingular one, then you can spend time recustomizing your phone. Ask me how I know all this.

Hope this helps
