Hi,

Well, as I stepped out of my care to go to FutureShop, my BlackBerry fell out of its holster. Unbeknownst to me it had fallen into the door of the car, and when I slammed the door shut...

I think you get the picture

Anyhow, I'm now thinking about a Treo device. I've always liked Palm OS, and I missed it when I was using my BB.

Here are my questions:

1) Does Rogers sell the Treo 650? If not, can I buy one myself and get it activated on their network?

2) What is the main difference between the 600 and the 650?

3) What kind of data plan would I be advised to get with Rogers? I want email, IM, and phone of course.

1) You cannot get it now at Rogers and don't know when will be available. You can
get unlocked one from palmOne site for $699USD (you may try to say that you saw it for $599 couple days ago and now price is upped and maybe you get it for $599). Waiting period 2 Weeks. They will charge you GST+PST and there is no shipping fee.

2) Main difference would be that 650 has beautiful screen 320x320 instead of 160x160, nice backlit keyboard, much faster CPU, in addition EDGE class 10 and Bluetooth, infamous/famous NV memory and don't know maybe I'm missing something else.

3) Don't go Rogers, go Fido and get $50 unlimited data plan Canada&US (yes no roaming charges in US) then pay $5 Extended Rogers coverage and presto you have access to Rogers EDGE network.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I'm in an awkward position. I need to replace the BB, but the more desirable Treo (the 650) is too expensive at the moment. Since I need to move on this, is the 600 worthwhile? I suppose I could get it now, and upgrade later (with the help of ebay).

Rogers has T600 at the best on 3years contract@$300 or $625 with no contract.

I think for $625 Rogers Locked T600 is not worth it for device that has:
- Truly crappy screen
- No Bluetooth
- No EDGE
- No removable battery

If you can get better deal then it is a different story.

With all these shortcomings I never even considered T600 (unless given for free). With all these improvements in T650 this looks like one hell of a device (still waiting for mine to arrive).

Btw, there are some serious rumors that BB client will arrive soon (maybe on both devices) http://blog.treonauts.com/

Hi,

Rogers has something called the Pre Hardware Upgrade Exception Program. It works like this:

1) I pay $10 a month for the ten remaining months on my contract. That will be $100

2) The Treo 600 will be $245.

3) The rebate will be $50

4) I will have to pay a $36 administration fee.

The total will be $331

I'm going to pick it up right now!
