im starting a 8940 info thread so all the 8940 owners can post there info or tricks they have found able to do here to stop all the other threads from piling up.plus itll be a easy find for new owners when they use the search button. so far i only have able to send mp3 rintones and wallpapers threw send a pic at verizons site. and then apply them as ringtones etc. so far i have tried a nextel/falcon disc a friend had for his nextel for all my ringtones/wallpers that i send to myself.it sure is cheaper than buying them form verizon. anyone else have other tricks they have found to work yet? ie, short video sent as pics to phone or somehow making use of the sd that i bought that seems useless.??

I just got this phone yesterday. I thinks it's a pretty good phone so far. It feels solid not cheap like my 8900.

I'm hoping we can get some good hacks posted soon.

using bitpim upload your mp3 or midi file to the /user/sound/ringer folder.then just go to get it now menu on phone.after that the ringers are listed in the media gallery in the tones folder.for wallpaper, just uload wallpaper files to the /brew/shared/wallpaper folder.then just go to get it now and exit out.the files will be listed in the media gallery in the images folder.i am still working on the animated gifs.i havnt figured that one out yet.if you dont understand these insructions, then i suggest you do alot of reading on this forum about bitpim.it is very easy.good luck

My first post.

I have read all the instructions I can find on BitPim and the 8940. I cannot get the phone and BitPim to communicate. I am using 0.7.26-1 version of BitPim. Since this phone is not listed specifically, I tried the "all other phones" options. I cannot even check the boxes to get the phone info.

I am probably just overlooking something obvious, and need to re-rtfm.... but it has been a total bust for me.

edit: tried BitPim 0.7-Test 11 and that didnt work either.

what cable are you using?also check other cdma phone in bitpim.you need to go to the filesystem tab in bitpim and double click the / sign.it will then open up the filesysytem tree.that will work.

I bought THIS but it did not come with software. Drivers only.

I have tried various versions of bitpim. My phone is not there. I have tried "other phone" but no go. I have tried LGVX6000, and it will show some info, but I get error messages.

way too technical for me. im still reading searches on how to get the right cable and on how to use it..sure sucks to be ignorant.

You need to see what port that your modem is using and use that port for bitpim. I had the same trouble until I kept on trying different ports and got luck.....hnow that I have the ringers into the mdei area now I need to figure out how to use them for the ringer

With the old version of BitPim I was on COM5 now I have to use COM4

Works great!
