My wife needs a blackberry for work. We currently share a ATT/Cingular plan which i do not want to lose and i dont feel like upping my comittment with them for the cut-rate on the device while also losing my sweet ATT plan. Can i just purchase more data for my existing plan and keep her there or will their be so much data that i will get screwed. Also can i configure her new device so that she has all the functionality without having a "blackberry plan." Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can't answer the first part about your specific AT&T plan. But to the second part (above): No - without a BlackBerry data plan you will not be able to use the BB/GPRS network, so no browsing or e-mail. All you'll have is voice and SMS.

During the ATT/Cingular merger, Cingular allowed ATT customers to bring their voice and data plans over to the Cingular network. They did this as a "grandfather" clause. Meaning that the first time that a change is made to the account you can kiss that sweet ATT plan out the window. NJBlackberry is correct and stating that a Blackberry cannot be configured to work on a regular Cingular data plan. its a feature that is built into the Blackberry itself. Their is nothing that you can do about that except take out a Data Only plan with Cingular. That way she could keep her ATT voice plan and still have access to a Blackberry. Yes, she will have two devices but she'll have a Blackberry.
