OK, I hate my MPx220.. I really do

Fine, so it has Windows Mobile on it and it does cool things..great.. but the phone is buggy as hell. Please tell me if anyone else has had these issues: (I'm on Cingular. The firmware is 1.30)

1) I try to place a call.. I randomly get "Error, unable to complete call" or something along those lines. What the hell? Full signal.

2) If you use the phone as an alarm, and you dismiss the alarm, sometimes the time will stick all day long. So if I dismiss the alarm at 9:28am, the clock on the phone will read 9:28am until I power off the phone. Nice.

3) When talking on the phone, sometimes there's this little glitch every 8-10 seconds or so, where I can't hear anything. So my conversations sound like "And I drove my sister to the gro _____ ore and we bought some of those new candies that were on sale, but I remembe _______ e's diabetic, so we returned them." Signal check.. 3-4 bars or so.. so what's the problem?!?!

I hate this f'ing phone. It's either that, or the Cingular service is crap. I imagine it's the phone though, because I know many people in my area on Cingular, and they have no issues with reception.

Anyone else have these problems? I'm waiting for a $300 rebate on this phone. I may very well use the money to get a new phone.

I would return your MPx220 and get a new one. It sure looks like you have one that is defect.

If you got it from the cingular store, you should able to exchange it. Sounds like yours is defected or what, not sure. BTW, did you have all the problem even outdoor, too? if it only happens indoor, your building might be an issue.

I bought it from Best Buy.

No, I get shoddy reception sometimes outdoors too.

So you haven't experienced any of the above issues?? Hmm.

No, just exchange it and it will most probably solve your issues. This is truly a great device.

I think I'll have to call up Cingular and go through their XBM service to get a new one.

I get the "unable to complete call" thing -- but rarely. And it's usually after I've done some SIM swapping.

Cingular 1.3 bought through Buy.com, had about 2-3 weeks now.

1)Don't think I've ever seen that.

2)Don't use the alarm, though one morning at about 8 or 9AM the time was 1:50 or something, fixed itself when I rebooted. Haven't heard the issue was alarm related, timekeeping on the 220 is known to be buggy, Moto's fault. MS makes it worse by not letting the phone get the time from the network...

3)Haven't really had that problem, only bad call quality problem was between 1 and zero bars... then the phone muted the mic or something and I couldn't be heard 'till I rebooted even with 3 to 4 bars... grr...

The phone is rather buggy, and certainly not the most reliable cell phone out there, but so far the features outweigh the annoyances for me. I'm also waiting to be able to apply for $300 in rebates, what a bunch of crap... 150 to 210 days from purchase, include bill, etc.

I haven't had any of that issues

1) Only once when I put in the wrong number with # sign
2) I use the built-in alarm clock every morning and that has never happened
3) Don't have that problem either, in fact, I found my MPx220 does a better job picking up a signal than my previous SE T616

Get it exchanged and hopefully you'll get a perfect one

I experience the same problem with voice cutting out. Either I can't hear the other party, or they can't hear me. It occurs when my phone is between 1-3 bars. Sometimes the call will just drop.

I am sort of releaved that other people are experiencing the same thing! Looks like I will be exchanging it tomorrow.

I think thats when it happens. I wonder why?

You have this problem?

It's annoying to have 2 bars and not be able to make a call. My Nextel lets me make a decent quality call at 1 bar.

Reception is fine, I have issues with any type of internet connection. Need to power cycle often. Otherwise, I love the phone.

Been using the MPX 220 for several months. An unlocked, preproduction version from Motorola. I'm sure it has the original firmware. Many bugs, and have to pull the battery often. But, as another reply said, the features well outweigh the problems. Yeah, I would like this to be as flawless as my old Siemens S46, but the MPX has allowed me to stop carrying my Palm Pilot. Hopefully as time goes by, someone will have a smooth, perfect Smartphone. An I'll be there in line to buy it!

Never.

me neither. I get interference noise on my speakers when dialing or receiving a call/SMS however, but that's hardly a problem. Had that issue with my old Nokia (3360 I think).

This phone has the best reception of any I've owned, by a longshot.

Well, it is kinda of weird how it happens but in my apartment and i am on my computer maybe 1 out 5 calls may drop. Other than that it doesnt drop calls, maybe there is a frequency problem somewhere.

I bought my phone @ cingi store (FW 1.3) last month and have seen the time get screwed up, but only twice. I haven't found the reason, although I believe it has to due with being powered off for extended periods. I do use the alarm, but time doesn't stick @ the alarm time.

As for can not complete call error. I rarely get that when trying to answer a call. Not sure if I'm just getting to the phone to late or if it's a network error or something else.

Basically, the phone's been great and these issues are rare and livable.

It's amazing how we just put up with problems in anything MS based.

"Sorry sir, I'm not sure why your car freezes up at random while driving at highway speeds"

I'm with you. I've had this phone for about a month with fw ver. 1.3 and I F'ING HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!

This thing is horrible as a phone. I'm about to get it warrantied, I really hope the next one isn't anything like the one I have now.
