sounds cool

too bad its b and not g......also this would be great if it were added to a regular BB, have blazing Inet in a wireless area would rock.

But i can see where they are trying to market it.

it wouldnt need G, all its doing is downloading emails, Voip (if it has the software) calling and maybe occasional webbrowsing (on a small screen)

the difference between B and G would be negligible in speed and the lack of it would keep the cost down

I doubt the BB processor could keep up with G speeds anyway....it can barley keep up with GSM speeds!

If it could, it sure would be nice!

so is it basically the same BB as the 7290 just with the addition of wifi?

Posted by: Brad00111

I think this new one only has wifi.....correct me if I am wrong, but i think it will only be a glorified PDA if taken out of the workplace.

oh really.....that sucks..i have no idea why the hell they would ever do that...so basically i only get my emails when i'm in a hot spot?

Yea, i think they are trying to market it to large corporations, so that employees will not need a desktop and can use the BB as a subsitite.

Thats my guess. Anyone else have any theories?

actually, thats probably right on the nose. But its bad since it only has a B network, and that will make it a bit slower.

Although it can be for personal use too, instead of a home computer you would just use your BB.

we will see...

Guys, do the math. "B" maxes out at 5.5Mbps. Let's say the plant (remember - this is for a plant floor setup) has a T-1 back to corporate for Internet. T-1 = 1.544Mbps. So the 5.5 is still > T-1. And e-mail is text. E-mail works fine on Mobitext, and that is 19.2k - or maybe 9600bps; I forget.

Last I heard, it is not for home or hotspot use - it is for corporate campus or plant floor usage.

The 7270 is not designed for movies, MP3s or massive downloads. So what's the point of A or G, if B is more than enough.

Considering that GPRS is 30-40k, 1xRTT is 80-90k and EDGE/EV-DO may be in the 300k-400k range, how can anyone make the case for anything more than B?

couldn't have said it better myself. People at our work always mention this and I always have to go through this shpeel. B is greater than the speed at wich your network runs. I sit on top of a 100mb/sec network, but i am not going to open it up to employees so B is more than enough, 5.5MB is mroe than enough. BB isn't your home computer that you dl music on, you will run out of space, espcially since there is no MMC!
