After reading all the ******** that happens to sidekick2 users, are you guys as well suffering from the data outages? I want to avoid sk2 at all costs, and never realized you can do just about the same stuff on a 7100t(since tmo provides an aim client and html browser)...

Also what are your experiences with tmobile as a provider? I know there network is spotty, but when I once had it it was just okay. I am willing to deal with it since its so much cheaper then a cingular plan....and im still in college so I cant afford the big boy plan

Basically I want html/wap, AIM, and great email... What speeds do you guys get as well? and since on tmo you can tether does anyone do it?

Thanks.

MOST of the SK data outages are due to danger's server and not t-mobile's GPRS network. I know this because my blackberry very rarely has outages here in NYC while sidekicks can be hit or miss lately....

having said that, the data on a SK is far from unreliable, it just typically has more outages than a BB does (hence one of the reasons why its more of a business product).

the AIM on a 7100 is SMS based though, unlike a SKII's GPRS based AIM which is faster, more "computer-like" and loads your existing buddy lists.

the SKII is designed for instant messaging/html browsing and can do email/phone

a Blackberry (whatever the model) is designed for emailing converged with a phone and can do html browsing (and AIM in the case of the 7100)

as far as tethering, only the 7100 can do it (while not supported by t-mobile i have to add.....)

The e-mail on the 7100t is better than the SKII. The keyboard on the sidekick is nice, but the suretype on the 7100 will be an easy adjustment, and the sive of the 7100 is alot nicer.

The web browser is a little slower than the SKII, only because it doesn't go through a proxy that strips out some of the extra info, it loads the entire page. The actual tranfer speed over GPRS is pretty much the same as any class 10 gprs phone I've had. The browser on the 7100 does have advantages over the SKII, like being able to run java scripts and show flash content. I haven't found a page yet that wouldn't work on my 7100.

The 7100 is also much nicer to talk on and dail numbers on than the sidekick. It feels just like any other candybar phone, and is much easier to dial a new number on than the sidekick.

So far this year I have had one data issue. GPRS service was degraded for about a day. It wasn't completely gone, but a pain as everything took about 4 tries to work and e-mails were delayed. It wasn't a big deal though, and was resolved quickly.

I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile in general. Coverage has been fine for me, service is good and I haven't had any other issues.

so far so good.. anyone else want to chime in !?!?? The rep at the store said however that the 7100t specifically has a gprs based aim client and doesn't use an sms based one like the other bb's do.... ****....

this makes chosing so hard. I played with a rep's sk2 once... and seriously really had high hopes for it...

you guys think they'll let me burn a 7100t in for 14 days and happily switch me over to a sk2? lol or will i be considered the pain in the *** client ?

I don't use IM at all, but I'm pretty sure that it uses SMS. The 7100t has a popup that asks if you allow the IM client to act as a server, with a check box to always allow sms services to act as a server, or something like that. I'd assume from that, that the phone is using SMS for instant messaging, but I don't know for sure.

its definatly an SMS based client, the SK is the only t-mobile handset with a GPRS based AIM client out of the box.
Also, the other BB's dont have AIM clients at all... unless you consider using AIM through t-zones (which is GPRS based), but that is painful to use.
