Hi everyone
I have a dilema, I recently bought the 7100g from eaccess.com. I am trying to sync my corp email with the device and I am told that I need a CAL (client access license).
Apparently if you buy the device directly from Cingular that is provided but because I did not, I will have to pay an additional $99 for it.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks in advance.

If you are trying to sync with your corporate e-mail system via a BES, you certainly do need a BES client license. That has nothing to do with Cingular - that is your company's deal.

Correct, however a CAL is something that has to do with windows and is not related to a blackberry.
CALs are for windows server to authenticate a device, this all depends on how your company choose to setup windows server either a per-seat license or a per device license. Either way you need a CAL to do it but this has nothing to do with Cingular.
if what you mean is a BES Client license then that is different and Cingular does not offer that. However since you said $99 it sounds like you are talking about a windows CAL. I would suggest talking to your sysadmin, hopefully he will know what CALs are!

Cingular does not include the CAL... It is $99 for the 4.0 CAL, but make sure your companies BES is a 4.0 BES before you buy a 4.0 CAL. Otherwise you can get a 3.6 CAL...

We buy them in bulk and pay a lot less than $99... Purchasing a single client license is not cost effective.

I agree with NJBlackBerry, buying in bulk can make that price a lot less, try almost 80% less, also helps if you know how to haggle with them

I have a 3.6 CAL (works with 4.0) BES Cal for sale... $50CAD plus shipping and paypal.

your BES admin needs to get it for you and enter it into the server licensing.
last i checked, with 3.6 you could only buy them in 5 packs for small business BES users and 10 packs for Enterprise BES users.
check with your IT dept, unless you have access to blackberry server, buying one yourself wont do you any good. (if you cant input the license, which can only be done by an admin, its useless)

Thanks everyone,
I will contact my admin. I work for large company so I think we have a huge deployment of BB Devices so I we should not be paying 99$ for each license.
I will make sure that we are paying bulk rates.
Becaue I bought the phone personally it is my responsibility for the license.

i am sure you can justify using it and they will pay for it, most companies that roll it out offer it to their employees at no charge... try that route first then say you will pay!
