ActiveSync. Transferring files, Etc.

I just bought the MPx220 and it's working fine, but I have several quesitons. Any information would be appreciated.

1. When I installed ActiceSync, it didn't give me the option of synching files - the only options were calendar, tasks, contacts and inbox. It also didn't create a folder for files on my desktop. So, how do I transfer files from my PC to my 220?

2. When I click "Start" there is no "Programs" option as there is on iPAQ devices. How do I see what programs are installed on my 220?

3. Does the 220 come with the ability to read Word and Excel documents? If so, how? My previous iPAQ came with Pocket Word and Excel. I'd hate to have to buy them.

Great Phone.

1. To tranfer files, open the file on your computer and click 'Explore' on active sync.
You can pretty much move files from thee.

2. OnActivesync, click tools menu. There is a tab 'Add/Remove programs'. Checked programs are installed. You can remove it by unchecking it. All programs that are listed are not necessarily on your phone if you have an ipaq with same computer with Activesync.

3. I don't think it comes with resident Excel/ word reader. PocketPc and smartphone are two different bundles.

Attention all MPX220 owners!! The Motorola web site has posted a software download for all MPX220 owners. This will update your phone to the 1.30 version. You can download this if you are not sure what version you have and it will tell you if the download will continue. Its about time!!

The Cingular branded ones come with a File Viewer program that can read Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, and a few other file types.

O.K. I know we have been through this before...This update is ONLY for Cingular branded phones ...right?

as far as I know you can't do the update if you have an unbranded or a at&t phone.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The only thing it says on the Moto site on this link is that this is for MPX220 phones purchased in North America. It does not specify anthing else so I am assuming you can flash any MPX220 as long as it was purchased in North America.

Of couse because all MPx 220's that were sold in the U.S are from Cingular, unless you bought it from one of those import places online or in the area your in.

I bought mine from Amazon.com and you could also buy them from Ebay. Mine was unlocked even though it had the Cingular logo on it. They were all made for Cingular but will work on any GSM sim card network

Its true for one simple fact that the original MPx 220 that were first relased in the US at Bestbuy was the first cingular ROM the udate on the hellomoto site is to update this "first ROM" the phone being unlocked has nothing to do with this. The MPx 220 System Update Utility checks the phones current ROM and if it needs an update it will give it one. If your MPx 220 came from overseas and is not Cingular branded then the update will not work. For example, the AT&T version has a different ROM number but it is the same ROM version as 1.3 thats why AT&T users found that the MPx 220 System Update Utility didn't update there phone to 1.3 because it was already compatable with that ROM version.

If at&t rom is the same but has a different version # and the same goes for an unbranded phone than what version # are the same? that doesn't make sence to me.

All Motorola phones are inported, and Cingular worked with Motorola to come up with a Cingular version of the software for the mpx220.

I just got an unbranded Mpx220 that has a build date of Nov. 2004 with version 1.1 . now I know that can be the latest version for an "unbranded" phone.

if the moto update tool says you have the most recent firmware then in Moto's eyes you do, it sucks i know but thats how they are, yea i know they are imported but cingular has exclusive rights to it here in the U.S hopefully moto will make an update for everyone
