Cingular 7100G and Xpress Mail Acount

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Savona

I just got the 7100G from Cingular (from their website in case anyone was wondering.) I was wondering what was included with their unlimited Xpress Mail plan. Will I be able to use the web browser with unlimited use? Will I get a @cingular.blackberry.com email address? I have a voice plan only with it right now. When I add the Xpress Mail Unlimited plan to it will I get a lower price for the new added plan because I already have plan that I am adding too? Also how is everyone's blackberry & cingular expreriences?

And also on a side not; why is T-Mobile's ulimited mail plan so much cheaper?

hey savona,

ok let me take it one question at a time:

By default you will only be able to use your WAP browser, but yes you get unlimited data and up to 10 blackberry hosted accounts.

when you get your phone go to Options > TCP and enter this:

APN: wap.cingular
APN username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
APN password: CINGULAR1

once you do that you will be able to use an HTLM browser like reqwireless and verichat and ssh.

yes you will its actually mycingular.blackberry.com but same thing, youc an have up to 10 accounts attached to your mycingular.blackberry.com account that you can sync to your BB.

when you get your phone go to https://webclient.blackberry.net/We...site=mycingular and sign up for an account there and to activate your phone.

the xpress mail plan is just the BB data plan and it is 49.99 for the unlimited plan from cingular no discounts. they don't give you a discount since you have a voice plan, would be nice, but oh well .. just keep verichat open all day that way you get your moneys worth!

honestly its been the best experience i have ever had, the 7100g is the best thing that ever landed in my hand. ever since i got it i can't put it down. Also cingular has been getting better and better and their service has improved a lot. all the dead pockets in my area are disappering...

check out these forums there are a lot of posts about the 7100g and people's opionion.. its always good to do a search too before you post, a lot of these questions have been answered! =)

my tmo experience has been horrible, their coverage isn't as good, also its not that much cheaper, and they offer a lot less minutes than i have with cingular their voice plans go from 49 to 69 they jump the 59 completely.

also cingular seems to be on top of things, at least with my usage! i hope this answers all your questions!

Not to rain on your (rather excited) parade, but you've had your BB for less than one day, and last night your were rather put off by Cingular (do I need to find the thread about getting the right plans onto your account).

While your experience with T-Mobile may have been horrible, I can equally say that T-Mobile beats the pants off of Cingular where I need it. And I pay $29.99/month for BES and BWC access, which I think is CONSIDERABLY cheaper, with the $59/month voice plan.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I was under the assumption that the 7100g came with a HTML browser already installed just like the 7100t (from T-Mobile) does. Am I wrong? I thought you only need the Reqwireless program if you get the 7200 or 7700 series blackberrys.

actually yes it does come with a browser, was just offering more applications...

hm.. got me by my neck LOL. I was speaking from a non BB stand point however though. I had tmo back about a year or so ago and service wasn't good in my area, now this is my area. I think that carriers have become more like 'pick the one that has a signal in your area' choice.

honestly though, I was extremely put off by cingular and i will agree that tmo is better with their TCP settings and they provide you with the info free of charge.

As far as their plans go, my plan with a plan that i would get from tmo worked out almost the same.. tmo was cheaper by 20 bucks.

also one last thing that i do like about tmo they have that ring back feature that verizon has, i don't think cingular has even come out with it yet, have they?

thanks for the wake up call NJ

Verticl,

will entering the tcp info you stated above add extra charges to billing?

Posted by: verticl

you know, i have asked that from people here and no one has replied back about seeing anything quirky on their bill.

thing is i have the unlimited data plan and why would they charge me? how could they charge you for data if you have the unlimited data plan?

honestly i don't know yet, but we will see soon...

I agree with the unlimited be just that. However they do have seperate plans for both data and Blackberry Xpres Mail. It is not described as a data plan.

Cingular - Now has TCP/IP; No MDS hosting needed
Go to Options->TCP
APN: isp.cingular
Username: ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Cingular works now, but it is a little tricky to set up at Cingular first by calling them. You have to telephone Cingular and ask for these line items to be added to your Cingular bill, if it does not already show up on your Cingular bill, called "Wireless Internet Express" (WIX for short) and "Wireless Internet Express Data Connect":
Quote:
WIX EXTENDED INTERNET $0.00
WIX DATA CONNECT $0.00
WRLSS INTRNT XPRS PAY PER USE $0.00
These items go by different names in some states, such as California, but essentially you need the same lineitems you would normally have for a regular cellphone for tethering it to a laptop computer. Next, you need to use the proper APN username and APN password as follows, in all uppercase, when you start the "BlackBerry Modem" connection when using Cingular:
Quote:
Username: ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
It is very important to make sure that all the WIX lineitems are already on your bill, including "Wireless Internet Express DATA CONNECT". The last line item required for tethered modem operation with Cingular. Once this is done, then there is no more port blocking anymore! If you do not need modem operation, you do not need the third line item. You may have to telephone Cingular multiple times before you reach a Customer Service Representative that understands how to add these line items.

that line WRLSS INTRNT XPRS PAY PER USE $0.00

sounds like I'd be paying every time i hook up my laptop and use it to get on the net. Is that indeed the case?

thanks
