Use a Blackberry on Media Works?

Has anybody tried it on here? In other words, what functionality do you lose if you use your BB with the $20 Unlimited MediaWorks plan as opposed to the $44.99 plan that is specific to BB??

Just curious....

I doubt it would work for a number of reasons. The main one is that the blackberry is generally programmed for the APN blackberry.net - changing it to apn.cingular is not possible.

You might be able to get the cingular browser to work by setting up the TCP settings, but not mail.

I could be wrong here, but I dont see it working. Part of what you are paying extra for is the integration to the blackberry system.

Wirelessly posted (Currently using: BlackBerry7100/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/1.1)

Yeah that's what I figured! Oh well, I'm happy with my BlackBerry plan, have been for years. I was just curious.

I am using a Blackberry right now with Mediaworks, but I have not gotten my first bill since adding the Blackberry to my family plan. I supposedly have the unlimited Mediaworks, but whether it applies to BB remains to be seen. I use the wap.cingular APN with the WAP@CINGULARGPRS/CINGULAR1 login.

I use the Cingular WAP browser and I am trying out the Reqwireless browser using the blackberry.net apn with the wap gateway IP of 66.209.11.61, and a gateway Port of 9203. All I can say about Reqwireless using those settings is that it works most of the time.

Given the rather limited capabilites of the browsers on the 7290, I am going to be very resistant to paying any more than the $19/month for MediaWorks.

I would be interested to hear other Cingular experiences.

How is it possible to go in the blackberry device and change these options? Does anyone have a page or something that can help me step by step?
The browser is very limited on the 7290 it seems to be only good for email and thats it. IMO

Thanks

Wish I could be of more help, but I don't have my 7290 anymore!

Hi,

On 7290's, you can go to Options->TCP->APN to set the APN. The email APN is always hardcoded to blackberry.net but this secondary APN can be used for other stuff like third party software. (Basically, BlackBerry is a multi-APN device that can do more than one APN simultaneously -- blackberry.net is always one of them, but you are now able to specify one other custom APN simultaneously)

You can enhance and turbocharge the Browser on the 7290 by following the instructions in "BlackBerry Internet Browser Configuration FAQ" section at the BlackBerry FAQ (www.BerryFAQ.com)
