Hi everyone,

i have a problem using my S40 as a modem. I can't get the phone to connect when i want to send pictures from my laptop (macintosh powerbook/infrared ) to my newspaper or when I try to get my mailmessages from my ISP using my Palm.

The phone says the number I dialed is busy, but in fact it is not. When I dial the number directly on the phone I hear the usual modem sounds.

Can anyone please tell me what i am doing wrong.
I have the latest firmware (3.2.0)

Hi Hans,

I've been having similar problems with my phone too. I've tried connecting to the Internet using the modem but rather than get a "busy" error, my phone just says "please redial. And I've also tried calling the number and sure enough, my ISP's modem answers. Have you found any solution to this?

Check out the other 'data' thread... there's some suggestions posted there already.

FYI: By the way, people have reported the new firmware to be version 4.0.0. We have no idea what the improvements or changes are (yet)... maybe this is one of them?

I have the exact same problem. It says "please redial" every time I try to do a data connection via irDA with my iPaq. I dont' know what else can be done to get it to work.

I get the same message "please redial" via Irda, and when i'm trying to send a fax says "service not subscribed" . any suggestions?

Do you have data services enabled on your account? Unless you do, you won't be able to use the phone as a modem.

If you do, I'm not sure... have you inputted the correct initialization string into the computer? I can connect with my computer without any problems, but my PDA (and everybody else's PDA) seems not able to connect.

I have the "wireles internet" enabled, do I have to have also the "data connection" enabled? BTW what is the "correct data string"?

I have also enabled dataConnect but I get same message"please redial" on the phone and if I try to connect to the internet with Dail-up and try to send a fax now a get "please redial" on the phone and "transmission timeout" on the fax program.
Any suggestions?
