(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: ahhpff

I was just watching muchmusic and they said that paris hiltons blackberry got hacked
this is what it says
"After this weekend's hacking of Paris Hilton's Sidekick, there really isn't anything left to know about the world's most famous party girl. Yes, she keeps phone numbers for Fred Durst and Eminem as well as Xtina, Avril, Lindsay and Ashlee Simpson. And yes, she does photograph herself topless kissing other women. The savvy computer hacker has posted the contents of Paris's Blackberry-like device all over the 'net."

here are some links

now i dont know if its possible but is it that a blackberry can get hacked?!

i heard from some who works at Rim that it hasnt been done yet.

Has anyone else heard of this news?

Posted by: verticl

correct me if i am wrong, a Sidekick is not the same thing as a blackberry? does it run the os or?

also i don't think it was hacked, was probably misplaced and someone got to it, or its just a rumor..

Posted by: NJBlackBerry

All of the Sidekick's data is stored on a server. No one knows if the server was hacked, if she lost/misplaced/blurted out her password in a moment of passion or what happened.

BlackBerry PIM data is not stored on a central computer.

And this news has been all over the Internet since yesterday afternoon. In fact, her entire contacts were posted in the HoFo T-Mobile forum. It even made the front page of CNN.COM

The Danger Sidekick is not the same as a BlackBerry. Not even close. Oy.

Posted by: ahhpff

No i know its not ,but Msnbc are saying her blackberry and stuff and i'm just curious if it is possible that it can be hacked

since alot of people have blackberry's

Posted by: NJBlackBerry

Not the same. Wow - MSNBC (MS picking on BlackBerry - go figure) getting a story wrong.

Poor Paris Hilton doesn’t have too much luck when it comes to privacy issues. The partying heiress has been the victim of a hacker who somehow got access to her Blackberry and was reading her private e-mails, says a source.

“It became obvious to her what was going on,” says the source. “She was pretty upset about it. It’s one thing to have people looking at your sex tapes, but having people reading your personal e-mails is a real invasion of privacy.”

Hilton’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment.

Like i 'm just wondering can anyone hack into blackberry's emails? or there is no way at all

Posted by: ahhpff

Thats what i was guessing when i heard the new,

it didnt make sense but i just had to ask on the forum

The Sidekick has what they call a "desktop interface". It's similar to the Blackberry webclient, except that it stores EVERYTHING that is on your Sidekick as a backup copy including all picture files, notes files, contacts, callender, tasks, and email. The only thing it doesn't back up is text messages I think. So if someone could get her password, they would be able to sign onto her desktop interfact at www-t-mobile.com and then see the entire contents of her sidekick. Apparently that is what happened.

Posted by: verticl

thats what i was questioning, your post says 'blackberry hacked' while the sidekick is not a blackberry

it says blackberry like device, functionality wise, perhaps, but everything else no.

honestly though, who cares, people get hacked all the time why drive attention to it?

anyway.. my thoughts..

Because as a result of it, all the contents were posted on the internet including phone numbers and email addresses of many celebrities. Apparently a lot of them were very pissed off and have been harrassed non-stop for the last 24-36 hours.

Did Nicole Ritchie get hacked?

I nominate this for Howard Forums post of the year.

Posted by: verticl

haha, she wouldn't know it if she did, oh well...

thats kind of odd that all of the sidekick info is stored on a central computer too, you would think they would be more catious.

Posted by: roofus

I think it's the vibrate function that Paris likes

With all the quality control issues danger had on the first Sidekick, it actually worked out rather well for them. A friend of mine went through 3 of them in 6 months. Each time they sent him a new one, all he had to do was put in his sim card, and all his settings, programs, and data was quickly downloaded from the danger server onto the device. Their server literally backs up EVERYTHING -- the entire device down to your ringtones, profile settings, and web browser bookmarks.

Set the record straight that Paris Hilton had a Sidekick, not a BlackBerry.

Write to Fox411:

Write to MSNBC:

I already emailed them too, thats what caught my eye about this post then i saw it was a sidekick which is not the same thing as a blackberry, at all.. what they said is 'blackberry like device' i can't imagine this making the guys at RIM very happy!

Posted by: Eric5273

Most likely someone just found out her password. I doubt anyone hacked into the Danger server. I'm sure the Sidekick/Danger server is just as secure as the Blackberry webclient servers.

Posted by: Dunlop

The sidekick is NOT a blackberry and frankly whoever has published that should be fired for being foolish and not doing their job correctly. You would think these news people were reliable eh?

Guess they showed us. But then again, it's foxnews and msnbc. Couldn't expect anything more from those two networks ...

Posted by: denning

Actually you read some of the articles, she had her blackberry hacked over a year ago.

That was before she become a spokesperson for sidekick and got hers jewel encrusted.

And the hacking was very simple, at least this time, someone conned her into giving the password.

What would this world be like without paris.

Apparently the Secret Service is shutting them all down, HoFo may be next, its anyones guess.

EDITED to add: http://money.cnn.com/2005/02/21/tec...dex.htm?cnn=yes

they wouldn't shut the site down, they would first ask that hofo takes off all the information about the incident.

starting by removing that tmobile thread about it, and anything relating to it.

Posted by: roofus

All right everybody 'fess up - Which members of the forum were in Paris Hilton's Adress Book?

Posted by: NyCNex8837

it was a 22 yr old kid that hacked into T-MO's server and took her username and password. reposted her address book in a forum taht was moderated by the Secret Service (real smart). He lives in Oregan now and is awaiting sentencing on May 16.

Hopefully L-Bo or lgreenburg takes care of the postings of personal info from Paris's Phonebook.

RIM takes the security of their devices and their service more seriously than any other mobile company or service provider. That is why so many executives and high-level government officials trust the blackberry service.

On one hand, the press refering to her device as 'blackberry-like' does not provide very good PR for the device at all.. . OTOH, it also shows just how successful RIM has been in marketing the blackberry name - it has now become a household name, and the standard messaging device.... has to make a few BB fans smile.

Like anybody holding a PocketPC or Symbian handheld computer, and other people say "Ohhh! You have a PalmPilot!"

Posted by: verticl

haha, yeah, so true.. i had someone call my blackberry a bearberry, but it was funny, they didn't put it down or anything, ah but funny..

hm..
