Hey Everyone-

Ok heres the deal, I want to cut Nextel, lets just say im pissed at them for screwing me on a bill and they wont fix it, long story short, I called them 7 different times, and have gotten no where. Word to the Wise, if someone tells you that you can purchase a phone for a price below what they are advertising because of THEIR screwup, get their name ID number, and EXACT time you called so they can pull tapes.......

.........Anyway enough of my rant and on to my question, I pay 99 a month for Nextel (Free Incoming, 500 min per month, Unl Night Weekend, Unlim Blackberry) and I am thinking I want to switch to Cingular. I have my BES with Dave over at MobileWeb4u as well.

My question......heard great things about the 7100, is it all its cracked up to be? Can I get a descent Cingular Plan for about the same as the Nextel? And I know phone Service is all about coverage, Cingular has pretty good coverage here, almost better than Nextel......but all of Cingulars plans confuse me so im not sure really of what I need on the BB side. Phone plans i got nailed, but Data plans, I need some help on.

Also, are you all having trouble with finding the Cingular 7100 or buying it? I have heard there are ATT and Cingular versions floating around out there....for now is one better than the other?

So Sorry for the long post, but Nextel (whom I used to love) has really pissed me off, thanks for the input.

hey brad,

that sucks about the nextel experience, hope you have better luck with Cingular.. basically here it goes:

honestly its more than what it is cracked out to be, i love this thing, i got it last week and have not been able to put it down. Usualy when i get a new PDA i am done with it after a day... i recently has the SX66 and returned it within a week, it was too cumbersom and the bluetooth was really bad.

this device is amazing, very nice, lightweight, easy to write on, and is truly amazing.

maybe mabye not, Cingular is a bit more expensive, but since you have the phone plans nailed down let me tell you about the data. What you need to get is the Black Berry Unlimited Data Plan, if you go their site, click on the data tab on plans and then right under you will see BlackBerry data. What that will give you is the 10 free accounts you can sync with for 49 bucks.. i think its 44.99 with voice service.

Now you are probably thinking but i have BES so i don't need it right? wrong.. if you just get a voice plan and no BB plan you end up with just SMS and phone and you can't do anything else.. you need the BB plan to get internet and email.

You can get a Cingular 49 plan with 600 minutes and rollover, Cingular doesn't do free incoming. and then get the 49 data plan from BB and that gives you your 90, if you want more minutes you can opt for a bigger plan!

cingular had this available on their site for sale on Valentine's day but then pulled the plug, they have way too many Back orders. you can get your self a new unit and service from eAccess at http://www.eaccess-estore.com, they are really nice and helpful. that is where i got mine from

i hope i have answered all your questions. You can also look at the tmobile plans as well, however i personally prefer cingular, at least it is more prominant in my area as far as coverage.

thats my 2 cents, also read the posts around here about the good resolution the 7100 has as well as other features, let me know if you have any other questions too...

Sounds great, bad thing is i had to renew my contract when I purchased this phone, i dont think they will let me out of it, even if i tell them that they screwed up when billing me for the unit and I want to give it back.

We shall see, thanks for the input.

how long ago did you buy it? there is always a way out, just gotta find it out.

Beginning of Januaryy.....thats how long I have been fighting them, they always say they will call back, they never do, and then i get busy with work etc and cant call them right away....

this is in the US right? I would call and not get off the phone until you speak to a manager, you can also file a report with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and i would also write a letter to them, start documenting.

Much like any call center, Nextel most likely records about 0.0025% of it's calls. The chances of you getting anything on a recording from any major corp are about nil to none unless you want the pre-scripted verbal agreement that the rep read off to you and you saying "Yes" ... the cost of storage and management for all those recordings would be too much of a hassle, and isn't necessary. Most automated systems state "your call may be monitored for quality assurance" which means they can, but don't have to. The only recordings I have ever seen working in call centers were the one to eight per month for each rep that they would pull randomly for quality assurance, and the "contract recordings".

For the most part call centers depend on the notes that the representative types. If the rep doesn't type something in, it's your word against thier's, and the company will fall back on normal policy of what should have been offered or said.

If the deal sounds too good to be true, get it in writing. Salesmen are salesmen, if they think they are going to make the sale, and the deal is real, they shouldn't have any problems going out of thier way to give it to you on paper (or at least email).

Sucks that you got burned, better luck in the future!

An Update, I was already for another wonderful session with Nextel CS today when I was pleasantly surprised. So I called them and apparently I got through to the last guy. The note on the account (according to the lady today) said: The customer was correct, tape reviewed, Rep stated price would be discounted due to internal error. Credit applied to the account.

So that's all solved, too bad to cause I was kinda drooling thinking about the 7100g, now im stuck for 2 years under contract. Oh well in 6 months they will prolly have something better out anyway.

Thanks for all the advice.

I would if 1) I could get out of my 2 year deal, and 2 If I can get more than 50 bucks for it, thats what Nextel is selling them for new now I believe........so fat chance of those 2 ever happening

-Brad

You're mistaken.
A used 7520 easily sells for $200 on eBay [Click]

However, that assumes you can pay the penalty (to Nextel) to get out of a contract.
Because you need to make your 7250 a "NON-CONTRACT" device before it nets more than $200.

So if Nextel is charging only $150 penalty, then you can make your money back by selling on eBay.

Basically, you need to pay a penalty to Nextel, then BANG, your newly "free-agent" 7520 suddenly becomes worth more than $200 on eBay.

Wow, and as always MArk you are very correct.

Thanks for the info.....in that case yes I am looking to sell
