i am currently looking for a phone that has a good mp3 player (stereo, etc) and able to play good quality mpeg4 files.. a prefered expansion slot would be SD or MMC(something higher than memory stick duo's 125mb max capacity).. the camera is prefered option to be good.. S700 is definitely out although i liked it(125mb isnt what i want).. within this week i have to decide the phone as that is my dateline (issues concerning shipping.. )
pls recommend me some.. tks

Except for the camera, I would get the Nokia 6230 since it uses mmc cards and you can expand it up to 1 or 2gb.

more pls.. and tks

nokia battery is weak and it won't last for 1GB card not even for 512MB in daily basis, fyi guys Now since you have narrowed down your options to sd/mmc let me think

Posted by: Levent

one of your best choices is Motorola MPx (http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_mpx-673.php). Then, Motorola E680. Nokia 6670, 6630, 6260 would be your other good options as well.

My battery does pretty well, I usually charge it every 2-3 days. I have to use the mp3 player for a few hours for me to have to charge it night after night. Then again, I have an ipod. If the memory isn't too much trouble, you could look at an e398 from motorola

thats a no for the 6260, dual mono, no stereo, if the 6670 is the same as the 7610, then its dual mono as well

oh ok. forget 6260 then The others are good but expensive but if only the memory is problem not the money i'd go for MPx straight away what about you?

i personally never go for new motos, i always wait until either an update comes out or i hear the first one is flawless

no phone is flawless.

Posted by: braindead5400

I don't mean flawless as in perfect but that the phone doesn't have any major bugs. My V600 had problems when I got it but my E398 was great from day 1

Posted by: Levent

well my friend's 6600 had bugs too, and SE is not any better than other too about bugs either. So, there will be bugs in most phones but the important thing to me is if i'll be able to fix it when there is a bug and you can do this with moto by upgrading firmwares. You know..

Posted by: braindead5400

Yea, its just that the MPx never appealed to me, I'd have to see it in person. Howard Posted a review of it on the main site though

Posted by: existonz09

i forgot to meniton that the phone i am looking for has to be quite compact in size.. max size i am looking for is about the size of a se s700i .

i see some phones u guys mentioned dont have what i want. so here i am telling u guys again

phone features wanted (a must):

mp3 (good quality [ Stereo ] without size limit -> Mitsubishi m900 has 5mb size limit each song)

mpeg4 files can be copied into phone and played..

camera has to be standard or better preferred.

SD or MMC or anything that has high capacity for the expansion card.

----

currently i am looking at my choices of

Nokia 6630 (has everything i need but is the size ok to look at or does it look big on the palm ?)
Mitsubishi M900 (5mb per mp3 limit and no bluetooth )
Sagem MY X-8 ( not sure about mpeg4 files playpack but website states video player )
Nokia 6230 ( can anyone confirm if this phone can play mpeg4 files ?)

... more undecided..

Posted by: Levent

There is not really big diff. in sizes for E680 and mits.900 and E680 has all you need while $100 cheaper than 6630 and s700.

Posted by: braindead5400

the 6230 can playback and record video in the 3gp format. As far as video playback, the m900 lets you watch it on the other screen with the phone closed, which is a really nice feature. If you are going to be playing back content that has a lot of music or is loud, I would recommend the 6630. If its like the 7610, it supports WB AMR and the videos sound much better when compared to regular amr

come on! 6230 is old tech. He needs a newer fone with better specs and screen.

Sure he can get a newer phone, just don't get the shoddy e680. The reception is abysmal on that thing.

Posted by: existonz09

haha.. true.. 6230 is good but that's in the past.. i know there is lots of new phones coming with good features this year but is it worth the wait ? i like 6630 but i wonder how it looks and feel on ur hand/palm. if anyone has a 6630, i would love to see how it looks while carrying it.. i know the sides of the phone is abit broader; thats why i wanna see how it looks.. m900 is cool but then i just realised it is bigger than S700 + no bluetooth + mp3 limitations..

The only shortfall of the 6230 is the screen. The camera may only be vga but its a great vga camera. The phone is great in every other aspect. Thats why supposed successor only adds a better screen and a better camera.

I also would not recommend a smartphone if you are not going to use it to its full potential.

ok but if you want to suggest 6230 in every thread then you know E398 and K700 will always be big challanges for 6230 If he wants a more expensive phone with better cam. options, etc. then, it's a different story and you can include, 6630, s700, p900, e680, e1000, a1000, mist. 900 and so.

Posted by: braindead5400

I wouldn't consider the K700 a challenge to the 6230, the E398 on the other hand is a great phone as well. From the features he and others are listing, the 6230 is a great choice. I wouldn't be saying this if we were 2 months in the past, because I honestly didn't believe the phone was a good as it really is until I got it. He stated that video playback was important and I recommended the 6630 or 7610 to him because he can get much better sound wuality out of the videos if he encodes with WB AMR.

i agree on these ones.

oh yeah.. the radio headset frm nokia..

http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,4879,28067,00.html

is it compatible with 6630 ?

Posted by: Levent

"To check the compatibility of your Nokia phone please contact your dealer or Nokia Customer Care."

Posted by: braindead5400

There is a chance it may not be since it onle lists series 40 phones

I would get E398, it's excellent for mp3 with 3D stereo speaker. I have one right now & really like it.

The camera is not really good as S700 or K700 etc. but for mp3 is perfect. With memory slot not bad & price is cheap now around $220 usd for brand new one.

I don't own K700 or S700 but my friends have it but I still like my E398 for mp3. The camera is not really bad, I think it's good phone with right price.

Posted by: Levent

I agree that e398 is a very good phone for its price out of all phones in the market now yet it's not the most superior one. On the other hand, 6230 and k700 are good phones as well but because of their marketing strategy, the prices for those two phones are still high (or at least have been high) for what they offer.

Posted by: techno11

Yuh E398 is good phone with cool price!!!

I don't have K700 but played with it & like it, love to have one. The price is still high ri-now around $280usd or $430cdn for brand new one. I waiting for it drop but it been long time, it's still around this price. Hope it will drop more when new SE phone come out.

I heard SE will release couple new phones & really cool. Hope their prices are not too high & over price as K700 or S700.

the one that howard reviewed seems to be a one off. everyone else i've spoken to about it in detail said that the reception is excellent on the e680. BengalBoy also remarked on how good it was in his review.

from what i hear e398's speakerphone is great with stereo and all but tranflash is maxed at 256mb right? 256 isnt near enough space for mp3s, for me atleast.

It is ture that you can store around 85 songs max with 128 or 192 kbps but you can also store'em as 64 or 96kbps. The difference between 64kbps and 128kbps while you're listening to a mp3 from a phone speaker is so small and hard to catch. I encourage you to try it to have your personal opinion. It's possible to store 85 songs or so in 256MB t-flash with 128kbps while you can store twice (170 songs which is pretty satisfactory to me) as much with 64kbps or little bit less than twice with 96kbps. Also try 48kbps mp3s. I have some 48kbps mp3s sound much better than some 64s and 96s cuz it also depens on the song's record quality. Lastly, yes the max. for the smallest not embedded memory card in the world t-flash is 256MB as of today. Good luck
