Free WAP for the Audiovox 8940!

If any of you have tried to reconfigure your Audiovox 8940 to a free WAP gateway you are well aware that it is an exercise in extreme frustration. It appears that Audiovox and Verizon have set up some internal blocks within the browser to prevent users from getting free internet. WAP settings that would work perfectly on an LG run into roadblocks on the 8940. When trying to connect to a free gateway you get stonewalled with an error message telling you to dial *611 to inquire about internet services. You can play around with your IP and Port settings for days on end but you will get nowhere.

Armed with QPST, the Curitel drivers and a FutureDial # 28 data cable I began doing some serious tinkering within the file structure of the phone. Poking around in the dark I began to make some sense of the phone. My initial efforts were very discouraging as I kept getting stopped in my tracks by the *611 screen mentioned above. After many experiments and multiple failures I think I have finally managed to crack the preset homepage on the Audiovox 8940. I currently have it set to a free WAP gateway and set to my own www.tagtag.com homepage. Everything seems to be working just fine.

It is still way too early to post any information as I wouldn't want anybody to totally mess up their phone because of me. Also I am still signed up for my free two months WAP and once that expires I may no longer be able to connect to free WAP. Be patient - I'll keep you posted

I have a VZ CDM8940 and I have no problem with FREE Internet.

Check out my site at http://www.earthuser.com/8900 there are tons of FREE "public" WAP gateways to use.
