Anyone get a Blackberry 7250 yet?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jase88

Has anyone gotten their hands on a Blackberry 7250 yet? And if so, how is it? Does it sound great? Would you use it as your primary wireless phone?!

I've checked a few stores, but it's not available in my area yet (North York).

Posted by: sd5187

Probably won't be in stores until Thursday according to a couple of Bell dealers in downtown TO.

despite claiming that its available immediately, bell has seemed to jump the gun... usually they're good with this stuff. Ah well a few days wont hurt anybody.
Later

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

they aren't really late, they simply said that the warehouse was going to receive them and ship them the week of the 21st...they didn't specify an exact date, they only said they plan to ship them sometime this week.

They wanted to announce it before TELUS. At Bell, its all about being first.

I have a tracking number now. Stock should hit most stores that ordered in advance tomorrow. Accessories not till the following day.

Posted by: jase88

DarrenGuy:
Which accessories are available for the 7250? The website doesn't list anything yet...

Posted by: tarheel

Got mine today. I believe Baka stores got a few in. The store I got mine at only got 3 in today and they sold before I left the store.

Darren or Cobra:

Do you know the amounts that the 7250's are shipping in?

You mean the handset. I don't handle ordering but there is no rationing of the product, individual stores can order as much as they want.

Cobra:

Silly question. Is it available in the Blue shell as well as the Black?

Posted by: tarheel

No just available in black!

Posted by: rip

I think Telus get the Blue like Rogers

Ah well. was hoping to get the blue to match my slider. But not a buy-breaker!

Posted by: rip

the black will match my AX, checking tomorrow, hope it'll be there?

Posted by: rip

looks like March 1st...lol

Posted by: tarheel

There out now...just not in large quantities!

Posted by: jase88

I got mine today! I purchased it at 9:30am this morning, and it still isn't active on the network. Why does it take so long for Bell to activate new units

Posted by: rip

jase88 when it is active could you respond to this thread...thanks

Posted by: jase88

I had to take the device back to the store for additional programming. There's apparently a two step process to activate the unit; and the the cs rep at the store forget the second step.

Working great now (except for Verichat--guess I'll need BES).

I LOVE the voice quality--huge improvement over the 7290 for both incoming and outgoing audio. I paired it with my HBH-300, and was really impressed with the voice quality. No echo (unlike 7290) and loud. The bluetooth connection is stable with the headset.

SMS is improved over the 7290: There is a character countdown that starts at 140 in the top right corner as you're composing a message.

Unit is a little faster than the 7290 (IMO).

Posted by: DarrenGuy

I noticed the second step programming. Its not in the information provided. Well its not how they say it needs to be done.

What exactly is this "second step" and what does it do or provide? I know I had to go back to have this second step performed on my 7250, but i never understood what exactly it did..

First time you program the device you can only enter the MIN.

You will get a fast busy.

You need to go back into the programming and update the IMSI field with the MIN.

Posted by: lp_papillon

I've played around with them today. They look sweet!
The screen is just awesome, it's got good response time and although it isn't much smaller than the 7750, it still makes a noticeable difference.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

i want one of these hooked up to our BES...i think it would really help us be more productive, and would also help us learn more about these units as the best way to learn about them is to actually have one.

since owning a Nokia phone for a year, i can easily show people who are not as familiar with it how to find certain things in the menu tree...as well, it makes it easier to upsell to better products when you are confident in your knowledge about them, and give the consumer a reason why they should spend the money on that item instead.

Posted by: TermDev

Had one for about 1+ month.

It works well.

Much better than the 7750/6750 devices.

You can really tell the processor speed difference by using the browser.

Posted by: DarrenGuy

I have had a few minor software lockups on the 7250 I am using, mostly when I have been browsing. The browser is an improvement over the 7750 in all situations, but the PPC5050 SMOKES the html browser on the RIM. I don't know if the MetaMessage I am using is messing stuff up (Its not working correcly either).

Overall the 7250 is great. It works well with the bluetooth headset I am using, however the Belkin one I have is poor for audio quality on any device I use.

Heheh, treatz setup my BB...haven't tried Verichat as yet a much marked improvement over the 7750 allbeit on a smaller screen.

Posted by: DarrenGuy

RIP, Verichat will not work on a 7250 unless you are on a BES. The TCP/IP stack appears to be fully blocked on Bell. Mark Rejhon and myself have tried several ideas with no luck.

Posted by: silentfury

So I guess the question is, where can we voice (at least my) displeasure (any particular # to call?), and go about organizing an effort to get them to enable it?

^^yes i know just ranting

^ yes add me to whatever petition is coming up, thanks

but it is a really nice device, i like the nice Blackberry logo, very classy. Gots to get me a leather pouch

my search for the do all device sadly continues

Works well With my Bluespoon AX, screen is about half the size of the 7750, i'd say it's marginally faster than the 7750 but has more festures enabled other than the TCPip stack, I hope they enable it soon, this can only help broaden the market for this device other than to Enterprise. Built on all their devices have always been good, feels very solid in your hand, the keys have a really nice and positive feel and with practice, the shortcut keys can easily be remembered. I'm trying really hard to make BB my daily device without forking out too much for extras like BES and MDS....if BM did forget to enable the TCP IP stack, I hope they enable it soon because like Mark multi-chat is needed.

Posted by: DarrenGuy

I am going to ask around this week and see if I can find out why the TCP/IP was blocked.

Posted by: Mark Rejhon

Everyone at Bell Canada, please see:

Configuring Internet On BlackBerry + Verichat Setup Instructions

(Note: For users who are NOT on a BES)
Works on Rogers
Works on MiKE (Telus)
Works on AT&T
Works on Cingular
Works on T-Mobile
Works on Verizon

Does NOT work on Bell Mobility

Please let me know when this is fixed so that I can switch to Bell Mobility. I will wait until then.

Posted by: jase88

On a positive note, I was able to view image attachments on the 7250 (without BES). I couldn't do that on a Rogers' 7290 or 7780. However this may now be possible with 4.0 on Rogers.

Posted by: sd5187

What type of image attachments?? I just sent a .jpg to myself and it doesn't recognize the attachment??

Yes you can, on Rogers. I'm able to view attachments on my BlackBerry 7280 now as well. Bell and Rogers got the feature enabled at the same time.

You need BlackBerryOS 4.0 to open JPG attachments. You need to upgrade your 7750 first.

Posted by: sd5187

Sorry guys - should have updated my profile. I now have the BB 7250 running version 4.0 - still can't view a .jpg attachment. Is this a function of the BES stripping the attachment out since it's a graphic??

Also, here is another bizarre one. On my BB7750 when I was in my Inbox I could click on the scroll whell, select "view folder" then look at one of my other Outlook online folders. When I do that on the 7250 it gives me the option to view the Browser Messages, Missed Calls, Phone Call Logs, SMS Inbox, SMS Outbox, and WAP Push Messages, but none of my other Outlook online folders.

Any idea why??

Posted by: DarrenGuy

What version is you BES? You need to be on BES 4.0

Just got mine. So much faster than the 7750. Not sure whether the keyboard is better or not, time will tell. Meantime, does anyone know whether I need to go to a BW store to ACTIVATE the unit?

If they mailed it to you, it should already be programmed, you should have an 1-800 number to call to change the esn.

I picked up the Hydrofoam BB pouch; very nice and it works with the lock in holster feature, there is no multichat capabilities but I totally forgot that it has; mobile MSN, Yahoo, and AOL built-in so you do have access to either messengers but not all at the same time.

Posted by: pager_guy

Does anyone have an idea or app that i can load to allow my default view on my bb7250 to be the folder list and not the inbox only as my first choice?
