okay, i can do mp3 ringtones on the v505 no problem, now the s66 can't take mp3s, but i can't get it to play .wav's, any ideas? it transfers the song, but then says playback failed. it saves it and all.

help the noob out, thanks

In order to play on the S66, wav files have to be 8 or 16 kHz, 4-bit mono. The size limit seems to be around 90 KB.

Are you converting the MP3 to wav to achieve the same results in sound quality? S66 cannot play sounds with voices. Like the above post states, you need to save those files in that format. I recommend MIDI files. You can use Polyphonic Wizard to edit and create MIDI files optimized for the S66.

I'm not sure what you mean by that... it will play .amr files, which are pretty much only good for voices. And the .wav clips I'm using as ringtones definitely have voices.

I thought the SX66 had an mp3 player on it?

Yes it does, but we're discussing S66, not SX66.

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? Mine doesn't do it. How is the quality? I will have to try again now.

Yes, quite serious. The quality isn't great, but it's ok. Not as good as .mid files, but at least you can make rigtones from real music off of your CDs. Some of those midi renditions are really lame.

I've been working on the ringtones stuff tonight...found some good information and have my own to add here.

Personally, I downloaded Audacity (it's free) for editing from MP3s, then save as a WAV file. Then run this through SOX ( Download here ). It's free and puts it in the right format for the S66, then transfer and you're good to go. 25 seconds is around 200 KB.

For a good primer check out Club Siemens

For those like me that are DOS-challenged, here's one with a GUI interface to Sox specifically coded for Siemens phones that makes it practically foolproof. The messages are in German, but I think you'll see that's not a problem even if you don't know any.

That's even easier. Thanks for that one!

So with this software, is the quality decent to hear voices clear? I do not find the speakerphone on this phone to be as good as Motorolla's phones, wondering how the sound quality is. Would hate it if it sounded like a Nextel phone.
