VX8000 Data Cable Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Hey, I just got my new VX8000 and im really impressed with it, I've taken a look around the forums and read alot of the threads.

I'm wondering what brand or store carrys a recommended vx7000 data cable that will work with the vx8000?

I've heard of people saying some kind of three grooved cable has to be forced into the vx8000 and to avoid it?

Thanks.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Hrrm, I looked around and cant really find a decent one that im sure about.

Could anyone please recommend a data cable? (not ebay)

Posted by: jbacke

Well there is this cable that is being discussed in this thread.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Thanks, but this is an ebay auction :P I would get it but currently im in a dispute with them because someone sent me a Pentium 3 Xeon processor worth 10$ instead of an AMD FX-53 Skt 939 :P (he had good feedback too but he dissapeared)

Is there any online stores that sell this with the 2 grooves?

Posted by: rangerdave

I purchased 2 cables from ebay. one works great with no hiccups at all, the other is a pieace of junk (no wonder it was a dollar)
the cheap one came with outdated software and even notes on the phone "wrong charging cable">

the good store is here
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1Q...sZphonestations
you will pay almost $30.00 for the package of cable and good software.

you can go after the $2.00 cable and keep going--heh

He does sell on eBay but then the shipping charge is padded a bit, so it's a little cheaper to buy from him direct via his web site ]website[/URL] using pay pal. I really don't know how good he is, I'm still waiting for my cable to arrive but it does look like he's trying to push the right cable, and debunk the other no-good cables. I dunno, but I'll post when I get the thing and test it out.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

I Cant use Ebay/Pay Pal at the moment due to my dispute with them, takes like 8-14 weeks or some crazy amount of time to get it investigated/resolved.

It doesn't even need to be a charging cable either, just looking for one I can purchase off a website with my creditcard (not pay pal :P) with software. I love ebay alot but I cant use it at the moment :P

Posted by: Celladictive

I just bought this...

http://datapilot.com/shop/lgvx8000.htm

Don't know how it works.. still waiting on it.. Yea.. I know.. kinda stupid.. but that's what happens when I ask questions in message forums, and never get responses. I just hope it'll do what I want it to do..

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Nice, tell me if it works please :P When are you expecting it to come?

Posted by: Celladictive

Well, I was expecting it on Friday.. I paid 23.00 to have it 2nd day delivered.. but it got held up due to weather conditions, so I'm out the 23.00... It should be here monday..

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Wow, I hate it when that happens. Sorry to hear that.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Hey Celladictive, Any luck with the cable?

Posted by: Celladictive

Well, cable came monday... along with a piece of crap software that they charged $59.00 for.

First.. you can make a back up all your ringtones. Well, correction.. only ringtones that you have added! Not ones used with get it now!! So that was misleading.

As far as actually using the cable.. Example.. taking a pix from the comptuer and transfering to the phone.. Can't tell you.. any time I try to do something the software responds.. ERROR. MEMORY FULL! And I know my memory on my phone is not full, because I can send pix and txt messages, with no problems. Plus I get an error upon bootup.

So I'll be calling them first thing today!

Posted by: jbacke

I'm still waiting on my cable... seems to have been lost by the USPS, and the vender is now out of stock for a few weeks. hmmm...

Im confused as to what exactly you mean in your first paragraph. Do you mean save them onto your computer? Have you tried adding new ring tones from your computer to your phone yet?

I almost bought the same cable but decided against it since I didnt like how it stated "Compose your own ring tones"

That made it sound as if I would have to make my own like on the old Nokia cell phones. You know were each number was a different note.

Anyways yesterday after work I stopped by Verizon store and bought their data cable.

It was $35 after the discount. Unfortunetly I havent had a chance to use it because windows wouldnt load on my computer so I took it in.

Posted by: Celladictive

Well, I called them today.. What a freaking joke! Told them what the phone was doing.. with constant memory full errors. He's like that means your memory is full.. I laughed at him.. and said.. explain why I can send pix and ringtones, through verizon's vzwpix site then.. Well.. His tone changed.. Oh this is brand new software, I'll have to send an email to our developers and see if they can find out how to get around the memory out errors.. so give me a day or day and a half.. Hmm.. Guess I was screwed..

Posted by: Stina

I have the same program and I have no problem with sending pictures to myself as well as mp3 ringtones.
Dont even bother calling that company or sending e-mails, their customer service is horrible.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

They have a vx8000 cable at the store now? (Bitpim or QPST2 dont work with vx8000 yet?)

Posted by: Stina

DataPilot? Yeah I got mine about a week or so ago. I have no problems at all. At first it didnt recognize my phone, but all I needed to do it turn the phone off and turn it on again. Simple. Other than that, no problems at all. I love using it! It DOES support mp3 rintones because I have put a ton on my phone and no problems. All you have to do is find another program that cuts them. No big deal.

Posted by: HaVoK-G2

Does the cable fit good though?

Yea.. I've sent 3 emails, with no anwer in two weeks... When I called today.. he asked what my email address was. I told him.. and he.. Oh.. You've sent us email before.. I'm thinking.. Ya.. I did.. now why hell didn't you repond!!.. To me they suck.

Personally I bought datapilot so that I could make back up files of my phone, like games, ringtones etc, because of the lack of memory the 8000 has.. I was hoping to back up.. then delete off the phone.. then when I wanted to use that ringtone or game..etc.. again, all I would have to do.. back up phone.. delete files then add the game, etc. Doesn't work that way...

First.. you can only backup ringtones that you have put in, by using the cable or sending through vzwpix.. You can't back up the tones that you paid for through getit now.. And you can't back up games at all. So to me the program is useless.

Umm, fits like a cable should. It has the two grooves.... just like the power charger that fits into it..

Has anyone delt with this company, selling the LG 8000 cable and software, on ebay? The guy offered to sell direct, at $15.99, and $9.99 first class shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...=ADME:B:WN:US:1

At least they have somewhat of a legimate price, and more reasonable shipping.

Posted by: Stina

You cant back up any of the getitnow ringtones or games because they are all copyrighted somehow, so no matter what program you use or how hard you try, stop because its almost impossible to do. There is another topic about that in this forum somewhere.

Hmm.. Bitpim did it...

Yea.. to bad I paid 23.00 to have it 2nd day.. only for it to be held up because of weather. But them not answering question on orders etc.. is unexcusable..

Posted by: Stina

Your totally right for that.

Well, I'm having horror stories now with this software! I updated the software, and now I can't get it to detect the phone at all... NO MATTER what I do! I've tried turning phone on / off / on.. rebooting computer.. everything. I just sent them an email, I'm sure they won't respond, telling them on monday their software and cable are being sent back for a full refund.

Posted by: Stina

Did you make sure you installed the USB Data cable software. Did you turn the phone off and back on while the comp. was on and while it was connected to the computer. I had the same problem and I figured it out a couple days after I got the program. I really hope you figure it out. I am enjoying the program actually now that I figured it all out.

Posted by: Celladictive

Well, I've tried.. when I click on install drivers.. I get a box that says..

Enter the cable indentification code. The code can be found on the cable package.

I have no idea where the hell the code is at. This is the most stupidiest software / thing I've ever tried working with. There is nothing on the box with any kind of code!

It's going back. I've had it since monday and haven't been able to do anything with it. I have a call into them, and so far it's been a day, and no response.

The LG code is P124.
Make sure the cd is in when you do this.
Then turn off your phone and on again while plugged in. Hopefully it works.

Posted by: Stina

Did it work??? Your having the same problems I did and if I can get it to work, you should be able to too.

Posted by: Celladictive

Okay, did that.. now when I boot up my computer I get an ERROR!

Your version of {No Pconfig} can read files on this disc but you will not be able to edit or add to them.

This is getting to be one costly headach. and of course still no email from Susteen.

Posted by: Celladictive

................ and still NOT detecting phone.. this is BS.

Posted by: Stina

wow, that really sucks. Did you un-install and then re-install? Im sorry that is sooo weird. You better send it back then. It is a headache.

Posted by: regfman

For the VX8000 has anyone tried the cable sold on ebay by infinitewireless.com?

And then there is the guy (dwoodsz.com) on ebay that has pictures of the two nub versus three nub cables which may or may not be an issue. Plus he is not too responsive via email and apparently doesn't have them in stock anyway.

I intend to use Bitpim*so the included software from any cable vendors isn't an issue. I just want the cable to work.

Any recommendations? One concern is that the cable is in stock because I don't want the 30 day trial period from Verizon to run out before I do a bit of experimenting. I have 21 days to go.

*Never have done any of this computer to cellphone stuff but from my reading here it sounds like Bitpim is the way to go.

tstiing a filter on this thread.... apologies

Posted by: Stina

Did you return it or ever get it to work???

Posted by: Celladictive

Well, they don't listen... I told them I was shipping it back to them on Monday. After screeming my head off at them, they finally responded to my email, asking me the same questions that I've already answered to them. I'm waiting until monday to see if I hear from them, but I work 10 hours, so I'll most likely miss any call from them.

This company really needs to work on their customer service and customer relations. I'm going to give them until Wednesday to get t his issue fixed! I finally got it to detect the phone, but I still get the memory full errors and the error with pconfig at bootup.

Posted by: regfman

yes. I didn't hear my cell phone tell me that I had a message but I did see a new message while I was checking other things on the phone. (currently searching around trying to figure out how to delete the 15 sec video) Hey it just beeped saying I have a message from the filter. Cool.

Thanks for the response to help me check the filter.

Yes... I uninstalled everything, followed the direction on installing it.. got the updates.. installed driver.. and it detected it!! Yea.. used it once.. but got the memory full error.... turned off computer... went to work.. turned computer back on.. and it's back to not detecting the phone.. I still have heard nothing from them.. Uninstalled software/drivers... rebooted computer and packed the crap back up and I'm waiting on a response from them today, if I don't hear nothing from them.. it's going back whether they like it or not and I'll expect a full refund, since they can't even respond to emails or concerns. If I have to.. I'll take it to my bank and see what they can do as far as getting my full refund. This company is the worse! I hope you never have trouble with yours..

Posted by: Stina

Sorry to hear that. I guess those cables from eBay & radioshack arent so bad after all. haha

I purchased that cable from the seller on ebay. Then got the VX8000 update drivers from their web page;

http://www.infinitewireless.us/ebay.html

I have installed that file. When I go to control panel, and click on 'Modems', besides my regular Hayes modem, I use for faxing, I also now, have listed "LG CDMA USB Modem (VCOMM)".

I click on Diagnostics, it shows the Hayes modem on COM2, and the "LG CDMA USB Modem (VCOMM)". on COM3. I click on COM3 then on 'More info'. It opens that port, and the dialog box shows;

(the phone has to be plugged-in, and turned on)

ATI1 Manufacturer LG Electronics Inc.
ATI1 Model: VX8000 106
etc,
etc,
etc,

So I assume the phone is ready to communicate with the computer. But the latest version of BitPim doesn't work, as most of you know it only shows the VX7000, as the latest model, during set-up.

After reading this thread, it is unclear to me what software is being used by the people, who have been successful in communicate with the phone.

I also tried QPST, the software, from the LG Info page;

http://www.lgphone.info/

but no luck. Any suggestions?

I bought a vx7000 data cable form here and it works great.

http://stores.ebay.com/Summit-Image

All you have to do is plug the data cable into your phone, and then a box will pop-up asking for drivers. After you direct install the drivers from the included cd, you can start using BitPim. So far, I've tried sending MP3s and videos. Downloading pictures and videos is pretty easy also.

I just bought a cable from them also, however it doesn't charge my phone. As soon as I plug it in, the phone says "Charging Complete" and the battery meter flashes even though it shows less than 50% before I plug the cable in. I'm worried that it might damage the phone, so I haven't tried again. Has anyone experienced this with dwoodsz cable?

Posted by: F34R

Remember that once you have your phone recognized as a LG CDMA USB Modem in your control panel, you are set. I use BitPim, newest version, and it works fine. You have to use the FILE SYSTEM view, as they only support the 7000 as the latest LG phone.

Here are the steps for activating the File System view :

I get the same message (battery....), with my ebay cable. The computer recognizes the cable/phone,although one odd thing; in Devise Manager it show it to be on Com4 . In the Control Panel (under Modems), is shows as Com3. I followed the steps as listed above, "view / file system", but still only get the 'long' error message, others have listed here. I'm thinking about a different cable, but which one?

Posted by: jbacke

The cable I got from dwoodsz works great with my vx8000. The included software works fine and the cable charges the phone too.

Posted by: F34R

Make sure its actually charging. As some others have pointed out, their phones "appear" to be charging. i.e. its showing the charging animation on the battery, but the phone isnt charging. After a short period, it says the charging is complete, but the phone is still half battery or less.

Just make sure you have tested your cable, and pay close attention to batter levels.

Posted by: j0kee

Never use the driver on the CD.
LG's official USB modem driver is enough. Current version is 4.1. Download from lge.com and install it.
plug your phone, let XP looks for the driver automatically. It will install 3 drivers - LGE CDMA USB modem, LGE CDMA USB serial port and LGE CDMA composite USB device . Now open device manager, check which COM port LGE CDMA USB serial port is on(in port section).
Now fire up QPST configuration, add that port. It will detect the phone. Now use EFS explorer delete or add anything you want.
It works like a charm.

Posted by: jbacke

This morning my phone was half charged, 2 bars out of 4 showing. I used the data cable to charge it, took about 1-1/2 hours.

The dwoodsz cable is a charging cable.

I also used all the drivers and bitpim software supplied on the dwoodsz CD and everything works fine. Setup was simple.

People can buy whatever cable they want and download whatever drivers and software they want, all I'm saying is that what I bought from dwoodsz works as advertised.

Just a FYI for those who are having problems with the stuff they purchased or downloaded.

Posted by: j0kee

Most of the cables are the same. Just 4 straight wires connect USB port and the phone. No chips inside. So you can just buy it from ebay for 0.99 + 6.99 S/H. Then trash the CD coming with cable and use LG's official driver.
Those who sell it over 10$ just rip you off.

I tried the $.99 cable from eBay, and a few posts up I mentioned that it doesn't actually charge my phone when I plug it in. Since I don't want to mess my new phone up with a non-OEM cable, I'd rather spend the extra $10 for a cable that does what it's supposed to do. I've since sold my .99 cable on eBay and I'm waiting for dwoodz to get more cables in stock, they seem to have the best near-OEM cable from the reviews I've read so far.

Posted by: gaynor470

I purchased that cable from the seller (listed below) on ebay.

http://www.infinitewireless.us/ebay.html

If you purchased one of these and get the instant "charging completed", they are now replacing the old ones (bought before 4-1-05) FREE, and they pay shipping. Got my new one and it works and charges fine. As does BitPIm. Those mp3 file sound great.

Posted by: Spooksmcgee

Just to let everyone know, the Dwoodz guy says he won't have any new cables for 3 weeks. I can't wait that long. Does anyone know if these cheap cables form Ebay will actually amage your phone? The Dwoodz guy's site says that these cables are not designed for the VX 8000 and there are too many strips on the cable, and that it will damage your phone over the long term. Is this true?

If not I'll just get a cheapo cable from ebay. Thanks.

Posted by: gaynor470

See Above.

The link posted above has the VX800 driver, and a link to BitPim's latest version.

The vendor has a cable and CD on ebay;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5765586380&rd=1

The CD is actually useless, (at least mine was, at that time) as it was outdated, regardless, the new software is free, as stated above. If you choose to buy from this vendor, you might want to verify that the cable is their "new" version. They sent me a replacement, and it works fine. I have no interest the company, just stating what works for me

...
I don't want to wait for Dwoodz to get his cables in stock, so I purchased one from them today.

They claim: "The NEW Official 2.0 OEM USB Data Cable for connecting your phone to your PC, this is unlike ANY OTHER cable out there, this cable is not "hacked" or "patched" for charging like all others. This cable includes the official charging regulator chip in it (UL & FCC certified) that charges your phone according to your computer's and LG's specifications."

That's good enough for me!

Posted by: Spooksmcgee

Thanks. Pretty hefty cost with the shipping fee compared to the 99 cent cables, but I don't want to get a crappy cable so I'll get this. It looks like he's using freeware software that anyone can get on the Internet. Is this the software most of you guys use or is something like BitPim better?

Posted by: her34

so for people who bought from infinitewireless, does it work well? does it charge?

or is it better to buy from dwoodz

Posted by: gaynor470

Mine is working fine, when the "charge indicator" is down to, two bars, takes about one hour to charge up. Data transfer no problem with Bitpim. I thought this thread had died, and all problem were solved.

i noticed that in the auction you linked to (and bought from?)

2.0

he says he's selling version 2.0 and that others are hacks. he also says that 2.0 meets LG specification.

now in a newer auction

2.1

he claims to be selling version 2.1 and that other people are selling 2.0 which can break the phone.

this makes me wonder if he's just using b.s. and doesn't know what he's talking about

this sucks in not knowing which one to buy. i would really like a charging cable, but i'm wondering if i'd be better off just buying a cheaper non-charging one and not worry about the cable breaking the phone
