CORRECT TMobile GPRS/t-zones settings for Microsoft Smartphones

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dupasquier

I have owned a MPx220 since last November and my biggest frustration has been my inability to access my TMobile t-zones page (wap.myvoicestream.com) with the connections settings I had. Multiple phone calls to TMobile didn't help and I was starting to think that the MPx220 was the cause of my inability to access this page as I could connect to any other html or wap site with the connections settings I had.

After researching this board, I found a few threads that have the correct settings and I thought I should (re)post them as a picture tutorial as I think some of you might have the same issue I used to have and also for every new Microsoft Smartphone user who have a TMobile plan.

ALL the credit of these settings should go to HoFo members jleecong (first one to post the settings on HoFo), fuzzie (for the port 8080 info) and vinayp (for additional DNS info). In addition to this tutorial, you can find jleecong's tutorial here, for alternative settings.

1. Go to Start - Settings - Data Connections

2. Menu - Edit Connections

3. GPRS Connections

4. Delete every GPRS connection already set in this window (having another connection might cause problems).
5. Menu - Add

6. Fill up as follow

6. Press Done and you will have the following screen

7. Press Done and go to Proxy Connections

8. Delete every Proxy connection already set in this window (having another connection might cause problems).
9. Menu - Add

10. Fill up as follow

11. Press Done and you will have the following screen

12. Press Done twice and set as follow

13. Press Done twice, open Internet Explorer, Menu, Options, Connections and set as follow

14. Press Done twice and you should be ready to go!

Some of you might wonder why the TMobile/t-zones wapsite (wap.myvoicestream.com) is so important to me and to other TMobile customers.
I think this is one of TMobile's most underrated feature as one can customize from it's computer, on the TMobile website (go to www.tmobile.com, login, click "communication tools", click "Add or edit on-demand alerts", click "t-zones settings") which information (local weather, movie schedule, stocks, news, scores, horoscopes and lottery) one can access in a few seconds on his cellphone.

For instance, it takes me less than 20 seconds to find out at what times "Constantine" is playing at my local movie theater (as shown below). Just for the Movie feature alone, the t-zones wapsite is fantastic!

Worked like a charm! First time in months I've seen the ole t-zones site. Thanks!

Great! I am glad you tried them.
I have asked a Mod to make this thread "sticky", not sure which Mod to ask though as we don't have any mod here...

It was the bit about setting the connections to "Automatic" and IE to "WAP Network" that burned me before. Never even thought about either setting. If you haven't, you should post this (with pix) over at www.modaco.com Or if you'd prefer, I would be happy to do so for you, giving proper credit, of course.

I actually have these already posted at MoDaCo but they never got stickied.

You should be able to setup your local movie theaters using the TMO website and then check the times of your local theaters from your handset.

From the T-Zones homepage.

Just and FYI.... I just got my unlocked MPX220 and followed these instructions after trying many other suggestions. I still could not browse though....well, the problem is that NO ONE with only t-zones access will be able to browse on this phone. Once I upgraded to an actual internet plan, everything works great! It sucks to pay 19.99 a month, but maybe I can get the MPX to serve as a modem for my laptop too now.

Thanks for the info...I'm glad I finally got this thing working.

I can acess espn and google and other sites but can access t-zones page. It says

your request for a service could not be fullfilled. Please try again or contact your operator if the problem persists.

Incorrect!

It is post like yours that we now have a sticky of how to get the internet working with 4.99 T-Zones.

Here is a blog entry I found sending traffic to my T-Zones config page.

4.99 Internet works with Microsoft Smartphones so long as it's setup correctly.

Okay, well the settings above, as well as all others I can find would not work. So can you refer me to the correct settings? Mine would not work no matter what, but the day I upgraded to the 19.99 plan, everything worked fine. Help!

LOL

If you only knew how many hours I have put in on this topic. I've done my time and welcome others work (dupasquier) as when I got it working I stopped playing with settings.

Long story short I'm fine for you to say setting don't work for you. I have had a few people that no matter what I told them to try it wouldn't work. I have had 100s more that is HAS worked for.

The problem I have is when you state "NO ONE with only t-zones access will be able to browse on this phone." because that is false and causes confusion just like the author of the blog article.

Check the port 80 sticky (pg 3,4) and you can read a lot more on how things started.

Can someone help he access the t zones site?

I now can access a lot of sites, even complex sites with full graphics I can see which is really awesome! but for some reason I dont get the simple t zones wap site. I didnt use the net on the phone much (I have unlimited t zones for 2.99) but now that I can use most of the web on the go, I'll use it everyday.

Posted by: jsamuels

I've entered all the settings as shown -- no connection. Now here's the stupid question: Do I need to insert a username and password?

Is it really a problem for you? Do you have to be so snide? Did I hurt your feelings?

Look, I've tried these settings with 4 different phones, 4 different users, and it didn't work for any of us. Okay, I guess these settings do work for others w/ 4.99 t-zones, but no body that I know.

You lying isn't a problem for me. Just don't post your lies where I can see them or I will feel the need to correct you. Again I'm fine for you to say "doesn't work for me" but "can't be done with 4.99 T-Zones" is a flat out lie and you should be correct.

Not trying to be derogatory in a mean way. (Did I hurt your feelings?)

As I said before check the port 80 thread in the T-Mobile forum. I've already gone to great lengths to prove it works for people like you who just can't seem to believe it's possible. I'm not trying to be nasty, belittle you, or put you down in any way. If you would like to send me your phone I will guarantee it works in my area.

If the setting don’t work for you do what dupasquier, fuzzie, vinayp, or myself did and and figure out the correct settings.

If you would like to continue this we should move it to PMs per HoFos Rules.

When I first read this thread, nothing was said about if this was supposed to work w/ 4.99 t-zones or not. Now that I've read the links you posted to modaco, I see what's been going on. I am late to the argument. I'm not sure what I should try though. I had my setting identical to those at the top of this thread and it just wouldn't work. I called to upgrade, and the next morning, it was working. I think I'll go back to the 4.99 plan and try to make it work again. It's not worth 19.99 just to access my email at this point. If you have any tips, let me know....am I wrong in having my settings EXACTLY as they are posted in the first post of this thread?

I am using the $4.99 T-zones in SoCal on my MPX220 and I can access everything. The settings on the first post are wrong for me, and didn't work, but maybe they work for others in other parts of the coutry. I went through the whole gamut of settings for a week and could not get it to work, but then I finally saw something else I hadn't tried, tried it, and boom!, it worked

Here's my settings (I wish I knew how to insert screenshots but I don't): If your like me, you have messed around enough with these settings that you know exactly where they are.

Under data Connections: everything set to "automatic"

Edit -

Create GPRS Connection
Connects To: Wap Network
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
everything else blank

Create Proxy
Connects From: WAP Network
Connects To: The Internet
Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
Type: HTTP
Everything else blank

In IE under Options, Connections:
check Automatically detect settings
Select Network: The Internet

It should work, let me know if you have any questions.

Posted by: dupasquier

Thank you for sharing a different option Michael, just a question though, can you access the t-zones homepage (wap.myvoicestream.com) with your settings? Also, missing in your settings is how you set your Data Connections (if they are all set on "Automatic" or if you set them differently).

I can certainly understand how one can get frustrated in the process of finding the RIGHT settings that enables him/her to use the data connectivity to it's full capacity. Meaning sending and receiving email, mms, sms, synchronizing with Microsoft Server Exchange wirelessly, surfing every html and wap page (including wap.myvoicestream.com) without limitations and without having to change the settings in order to complete one or the other functions mentioned above.
For me, the settings posted on page 1 of this thread are the only settings that FULLY work. Other settings might allow me to connect, but not to the full extend of the capacities offered by TMobile. I recommend everyone to follow the instructions scrupulously, as for instance, having 2 different GPRS connections listed will block you from connecting. Any minor difference might and will probably disable you from connecting properly. That is why I recommend to keep the same connections names as used in the tutorial, double check if not triple check every typed letter, number or space before concluding that the settings don't work.

Again, I can thank jleecong and vinayp enough to share their findings on this board. I firmly believe that IF THEIR SETTINGS ARE ENTRED PROPERLY, you will be able to use TMobile's data connectivity to it's full capacity anywhere in America. I don't thinks the rule "different region=different settings" is true as my settings have yet to failed me anywhere I have been in the country.

Posted by: Guitar1969

My Data Connections are all set to "Automatic" and yes I can, and do connect to wap.myvoicestream.com all the time Unfortunately, the tutorial settings did not work for me in my region. I went through the gamut of settings initially to the point of frustration, and although many are similar, they are all not exact out there, which causes confusion when you try to set up the mpx

At this point, I have not been able to get MMS to work on the MPX220 with T-mobile T-zones, and I do have all the settings in correctly, but if you look at some of the other posts on this site, it appears this is an issue with many Tmobile subscribers, and Cingular as well - MMS is not working welll for many, and it is believed it is an OS/hardware issue possibly. Any thoughts would be appreciated on that thread(below)

I can browse wap, http, and htts, but have not tried Activesync Exchange(My company is running Exchange 2002, so they need to install mobile activesync and have not done so yet - hopefully soon). One other thing I have not been able to do is tether an IPAQ PDA off of the mpx via Bluetooth using the mpx as a modem - not sure if this is possible with just T-zones.

All of your info has been helpful, especially considering the mpx220 is relatively new, and we are all in new territory.

Thanks for the precision Michael. I am sure your settings will help other users.
The only explanation of the different settings can only be because of the differences in the TMobile data plans then... I can't verify your settings as I am on the $19.99 plan.

I didn't realize you were on the 19.99 plan - You're right, that changes everything. Due to Tmobile blocking port 80, us Tzones users have to do it a bit differently in order to get Internet. Now I see why your settings would not work for me because I have to do everything through wap(and a proxy). I have a feeling at some point we will all be on the 19.99 plan.

Unfortunately, I still can't get the MMS thing working, even with smaller picture files. I guess that is one of the drawbacks of only paying $4.99 with Tzones, but I probably wouldn't use MMS anyways because it costs per use, and I can just send an email with an attachment.

Thanks for your help for all us newbies

I have no problems with MMS.

Did you try my settings I posted over on MoDaCo?
This is a tutorial page on how to change the settings.
https://attws.primushosting.net/aws.../ATTW35249.html

These are the correct setting to use for T-Mobile.
Name: Whatever you want (I used MMS)
MMSC URL: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
WAP Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port: 9201

T-Mobile doesn't suggest a Max Send Size but the default 300K worked for me.

Those Are the MMS settings I have tried, but because I am using a proxy and connecting thorugh Tzones $4.99 plan, thast might be the difference. I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for the try.

Thanks for this thread guys!

Thanks to all the Hofo'ers who took the time and generously posted their settings.

I'm using T-Zones 4.99 plan in NYC and I can get the web and use agile messenger pretty consistently. However I can't get Fizz traveler to update weather or currencies and I can't get MMS to work.

Fizz Traveler starts looking to update but then it says "no path" and immediately stops tryimng to update.

Oh well, I will continue to plug away but thanks for the internet!

I think you have me and the OP confused.

The OP is using the 19.99 plan. My settings and suggestions are for the 4.99 plan as you have. Like I said I have no problems with MMS using the proxy with 4.99 T-Zones.

The proxy has nothing to do with sending/receiving MMS Messages.

Posted by: Racerinlsl

Okay,
I'm back on the 4.99 plan and it doesn't work again. Jlee, any suggestions? I have my settings IDENTICAL to what you posted above. The wierd thing is....I'm not getting an error, it just keeps saying "connecting" but never connects.

ARRGGHH!! I just can't figure this out.

Posted by: ngr2001

Im a brand new T-mobile Cust.
I live in NJ

I got the 4.99 T-zones plan

On the free moto V180 phone I cant access the real web EX www.howardstern.com

On my Mpx200 unlocked with WM2002 I can get to any web site ex www.howardstern.com and I can even sign onto AIM with AGile.

I used the basic T-moblie gprs and proxy settings from the this forum.

Am I just lucky, or is the doing of my Smartphone, because I even seem edited my backup V180 to make it quad band and I cant connect to anything but wap sites with it. I want to sell my mpx200 for a MPX220 will the full internet still work with the mpx220 if it works with my mpx200 because I see some people are having loads of problems.

Whats the deal

Navigate to Option-->Network and change the option.
You have two available:
The Internet and Corp-Network.
Try the both, one of them should work.

Posted by: Chr1sny

I cant find the network option for the life of me in Fitz Traveller...

its not in the options section (the one that looks like an artist's easel)

Posted by: lrdiaz

Look for the arrow pointing to the right side at the bottom of the options list.
Navigate down to it, then navigate right, for the next page.

Posted by: Chr1sny

I must have an antiquated version, because my options page is missing that. There's just some american and british flag at the bottom of my options page, no arrow to see more options =(

Posted by: lrdiaz

Below Language, and to the right of the flags there should be an arrow taking to the next page, and giving you options for Network, Date/Time and InteliTimers.

The settings on your V180 need to be updated.

Go into web sessions and edit the T-Zones connection. Change port 9201 to 8080 and change the type to HTTP. You will also need to edit the seems with the "File type fix".

Works fine on my A630 except for large pages where it errors that the page is to big.

Unfortunaltey mine doesnt have any arrows underneath the language section. I know what you mean though, my options section is just missing that little arrow.

Posted by: rynxprs

I'm doing this with my MPX200 and I got to the "DATA CONNECTIONS" part of it...where everythign should say "Automatic".

It is not letting me change the Work Connection or the Secure WAP Connection to Automatic.

It says "None Available".

I followed every step above....did i miss something???

I would check again your settings with the ones posted on page 1 of this thread. Make sure for instance that you don't have any other accounts in the GPRS connections tab (any minor difference might disable you from connecting to the internet.

I don't think TMobile gives you anything for free anymore. So, without a data plan it doesn't look like you will be able to access any site.

Thank you, but as I wrote in my first post, ALL the credit of these settings should go to HoFo members jleecong (first one to post the settings on HoFo), fuzzie (for the port 8080 info) and vinayp (for additional DNS info).
Believe me, I felt the same way than you! I had been looking for the correct settings for months, which included hours of speaking with TMobile reps.

Posted by: ianken

On my SP3i With the settings posted at the beginning of this thread all net browsing fails. IE cannot connect to any pages, any site.

I've tried just about every settings combo I can locate, including the ones posted here, and I have yet to get to wap.myvoicestream.com on my SP3i. IE just cannot find the page. It's like the DNS lookup fails, but I know that's not right because I can set "wap.myvoicestream.com" as the GPRS AP and it works fine.
FWIW I have the unlimited internet service and t-zones.

MMS also times out while sending. For this I have a proxy setup to connect from "The Internet" to "Secure WAP Network" with the proxy being wap.myvoicestream.com. The MMSC settings are set to "connect via secure wap network." I don't get a connection error by the MMS send times out, at least htat's what I assum the clock icon means after the send tries for a bit. I do NOT get a "cannot connect" error when I send.

EDIT: I reset all the settings as specified at the start of teh post and rebooted the phone. Now, when I browse to wap.myvoicestream.com I get a blamk page with no content.

Posted by: floepie

FWIW, only after much wasted time, my 5600 tolerated only 216.155.165.50:8080.

Do not enter a '0' before the 50. It really shouldn't matter whether it's there as other phones seemed to have tolerated it. Live and learn.

I tried deleting all the connections made for the t-zones stuff, no luck. I tried creating one GPRS connection, server internet2.voicestream.com, but that didn't work either.

any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!!

Can someone please help? I have a unlocked Cingular branded Mpx220. I have t-zone added to my plan. I have set my phone as Dupasquier instructed. I've also tried the settings by Guitar1969 and Jleecong. However, I receive a screen that reads "Your plan does not support this feature". Please advise what T-zones is capable of. I'm having trouble understanding if T-zone can access internet, hotmail, google, etc.? Does anyone recognize what I'm doing wrong? Thank you.

i couldn't tell you what is wrong unless you list all of your settings under your Data Connections(GPRS and Proxy), as well as your IE settings. I am using Tzones successfully in Southern CA but there are certain web sites that won't be accessable.

If you want to list your settings you have in your phnoe line by line, I will try to help. Due to hard resetting, I have had to resetup my phone numerous times, and I have been successful everytime, once I figured it out.

Hi Guitar:
I'm in Nor Cal. I have tried the exact settings as the OP from the 1st page. I checked numerous times to make sure all settings were exact. Right now I have your settings from page 2 of this thread. My tzone service was activated yesterday. Last night initially I used the OP's settings I was at least able to access the T-zone services (for buying ringtones, weather service, sports scores, etc but not websites like yahoo, google, hotmail), but after I played around w/ the settings I now have "your plan does not support this feature" message no matter what I try to access.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I just went back and double checked my settings from page 2 against what my phone has right now- The only difference I have is in IE - Options/Connections, I don't have the Automatically detect settings chosen now.

However, from the error message you described it seems that in NorCal they might now be blocking the 8080 port so we can't do this anymore - which means that at some point we will all be blocked from doing this.

I don't know what else to tell you

Does the firmware affect Tzone settings? I'm using Cingular 1.43 Rom. If I can't even connect to the basic Tzone does that mean I won't be able to connect even w/ the $19.99 internet plan?

I am using the 1.43 ROM and T-zones Pro, and it seems to be working for most webpages. I can't however get the Connectedbits weather program to update, but I just got it so I don't know if it will work with the Proxy setup we are using.

I used the settings from the first page to get my Mpx 220 to work with T-Mobile,
but I still can't use MSN Messanger. Does anyone know if additional settings are required to use MSN Messanger on T-Mobile? I have no problems browsing the net, or downloading ring tones........ Thanks!

and the solution is as follows:

"System Preferences/Network/Bluetooth/Proxies/Web Proxy"

how do you access system preferences...is that from a Pocket PC. the IP address you listed would be included in the Proxy settings, which are accessed on the Smartphone via Start-->Settings-->More-->Data Connections-->Edit Connections-->Proxy. i can sign in to MSN with the settings i reference above (re: $19.99 plan w/unlimited internet access).

Posted by: zetagy

these instructions are for mac os x, but i'm sure if you're smart + creative you can apply this to any machine
-
step 1: you have a bluetooth enabled cellphone, and your provider is tmobile
-
step 2: you have ordered the t-zones service for $4.99 or whatever
-
step 3: you want to pair the phone to your bluetooth enabled computer, so that you can use it as a modem (like lets say for a laptop on the road)
-
step 4: you've done so, the computer is seeing the phone as a modem, and you can see that it is getting some sort of internet connection from the phone
-
step 5: you try to check your POP mail on your computer, and it works just fine
-
step 6: you try to pull a web page into your browser on your computer, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. ...why?
-
step 7: here's why: when using this modem, your computer needs to be told to use a web proxy server, and the address is

216.155.165.50:8080

if you can tell your computer to use this web proxy server when connecting with this modem, then you have defeated the forces of evil, and restored full internet access to your modem connection

-

i know where to enter this info in mac os x (see previous post), but as far as other OSes like XP or whatever i don't know. good luck. cheers.

I do have 216.155.165.50:8080 as my proxy, but still no luck! MSN Messanger says unable to connect, service not responding, but I know it's working, because I can log into MSN Messanger on my PC. I also can't download attatchments in Multi-Media Messages. I'm a bit bummed, as I have my home phone service setup to send me a copy of voice mail messages left on my home phone, but now I can't listen to them!

Posted by: detwetter

OK, just realized, that my MMS settings were set to Connect via MMS network. Changed it to Internet, and all works well. Now I just need to figure out MSN Messanger. Feeling a bit better now!

Posted by: floepie

I always thought that MSN doesn't work on T-Mobile's network. Did you do a search?

Posted by: zetagy

Forgive my "Windows Ingorance", but is that like AOL IM?
anyway, i'm wondering what protocol it uses.
For instance, that proxy we're talking about is for HTTP protocol.
Other example protocols would be like POP for mail, RTSP for streaming audio, you know? SOCKS for some chat programs...
-
let me check my Mac's "iChat"...hold on.
hmmm, in the last version there was a pref to switch to use HTTP instead of SOCKS. now it's gone...wonder....
-
Anyway, what i'm trying to say is you need to dig into some preference for MSNM and Force it to use that HTTP port we opened. My guess is that it's trying to use SOCKS right now. Hope this was relevant...

Posted by: detwetter

floepie, I just assumed, since I could browse the net, that I could also use MSN Messanger. I could be wrong though.
zetagy, yes, MSN Messanger is like AIM or Yahoo Messanger. Unfort, there aren't any connection options in MSN Messanger on my phone.
Thanks for the replys!!

I have been trying to use the MPX220 with my IPAQ for months as a bluetooth modem so I could surf the internet on my PDA via Tmobile- Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get it to work - Last I was told (from Geekzone)was that you had to manualy enter in these ridiculous connection strings everytime you wanted to connect. to the point where it isn't worth the hassle - you would think with all this technology it would be easier.

sounds like Mac is alot easier. Overall, if i had to do it all over again I would have probably gone the Mac route- Unfortunately I am in the clutches of Bill Gates and have too much invested in windows(knowledge and software) to change now.

Posted by: zetagy

Forgive my saying, but y'all got pwned by Darth Gates.
Mac RULEZ~!

Posted by: detwetter

If they didn't cost so much, I'd have one! I personally work on Sun's Solaris OS, and love Unix, so Mac OS-X is right up my alley! I still like XP as well though.

yes i can... i meant to state that in my previous email. i've read/heard that T-Mobile blocks the ports used for "chatting" with the T-Zones plan.

So do you think it's not blocked on the $19.99 plan, but is blocked on the $4.99 plan?

Mine seems to be working fine with my T-zones plan(set up with proxy server as discussed elsewhere in this forum).

I just don't see the benefit of using MSN messenger(Or any messenger system for that matter) on this phone, as it would be extremely painful to write out messages back and forth with its limited text input capabilities(even ITAP is slow).

I'm about to buy an mpx220 and I was going to get cingular 450 national but then i noticed TMo's 39.99 promo for 1000 plus unlim N&W and then tzones for 4.99. However, the main thing i'd be doing with tzones is using Orb . I understand that TMo has blocked port 80. am i correct in that you guys have circumvented this blocking by using TMo's proxys on 8080? have any other ports been blocked?

If so, could one of you test orb by doing these steps for me? Preferably someone with tzones 4.99 using the proxy. I got it off orb's support site.

Quote:
Question:
How can I find out whether my Phone or PDA is Orb-compatible (can stream media in Orb)?
Solution:
The best way to find out if your web-enabled device is Orb-compatible (i.e., suitable to stream Live TV, Video and Audio in Orb) is to actually test it on our Orb guest site:

* Enter the following URL in your device's browser: http://guest.orb.com

* Click on the Enter Sample Account button.

* Once inside the guest account, you can select TV Listings, or recorded Video and Audio, and attempt to stream live TV or a recorded media file.

This should give you a first-hand idea of how well will your device be able to stream media.

Important: Please note that whenever you are accessing Orb via a mobile device, the connection signal strength which varies depending on your location is an important factor that also affects the quality of your streaming experience.

off topic, but if anyone knows about tmos coverage on I210 (so cal) compared to cingular's, that'd be great. from the looks of tmos compass site, I210 between glendora and fontana is kinda shady, and thats where most of my calls would be.

Posted by: floepie

Proxies and port 80 have nothing to do with this. You're not wanting to know if you can surf web pages. You want to know about streaming content. The streams Orb uses go over identical ports as used by Real player streams, and these ports are indeed blocked on the $5 plan. Not sure about the $20 plan, but I suspect there too.

What did you set up with a proxy server? Which app are you talking about? Real player? WMP? Which device are you using?

First of all, THANKs for putting this together. My 5600 is browsing the web and t-zones quite fast. I think that mobile.google.com/local is a GREAT tool!.

I don't seem to be able get MSN Messenger working. (Used to work with At&t)
Sometimes works but it is when my 5600 is connected to my PC. (not sure if that is the reason).
Any one else has MSN Messenger working with the 4.99 plan?
We could use some input on this matter. THANKS

Thank you soooooooo much i have been calling tmobile for the last three weeks ever since i got t mobile service and they couldn't help me they even connected me to support in london and that didn't even work. I tried this and it worked like a charm, thanks so much, but for some reason my mpx will only pick up the cingular network, it won't find the t mobile network, anyone know why?

Posted by: Kalun47

I have set up the t-zones service using the proxy settings and it works on 90% of web sites. Now, if i want stream soemthing from ORB, or use Weatherbug Mobile (the application), it doesn't seem to work. anyone found a fix around this? Thanks in advance.

Posted by: dosei

I just talked to Tmobile tech support. They told me the Moto MPX220 and mpx200 are no longer supported for Tmobile Tzone and Tmobile unlimited internet. Can anyone else verify this? It sounds like everyone here in this thread is still able to access these services. I have been trying to set up my data connection for 3 weeks, 1st using the settings in this thread, and then asking tmobile tech support for help, with no success.

Posted by: detwetter

I think T-Mobile were being less then honest with you. What they should have said, is that you can't download content from T-Zones. Only supported phones can download ringers, wallpapers......... I can access T-Zones with the Mpx220, I just can't download content.

I used the settings on the first page and finally got the $4.99 T-zones to work on my Mpx220 thanks guys

So...I've got a somewhat related questions

I just got an unlocked version of an AT&T SMT5600...Its running operator rom 1.1.40.0/manufactur rom 1.1.58.80

I'm going to switch it to T-Mobile tomorrow (much cheaper rates and T-zone for $5 looks awesome)...

My question is...

What's the best ROM to upgrade the phone to so I have all of the latest fixes etc (since I'll be on TMobile anyway)?]

TIA

Steve

The settings work great, but I can't get my pop3 account to work. Oh well, at least I can get MOST of what I want. T-Mobile could not help me. They have no clue why port 110 won't work with my Cox account .

Is there a setting that needs to be changed for text messaging? I can receive but not send. I keep receiving an error message stating that my message cannot be sent. Although I can send mms messages and I can access the internet....

Any ideas? I think it is the sms center number that may be incorrect but I cannot seem to find the area to change it.

Thx

Edit: Ok I found the area for the change, could someone give me the correct sms center phone #?

Disregard the above, called tmo cs and they reset my messaging account and now everything is fine. Now I have to get over the master reset that I did for nothing

Yes that is the reason it is not working. The sidekick uses a special data plan dedicated to a main sidekick server. Cancel the unlimited plan and get the regular wap plan and you should be good to go.

UPDATE:
Ok, the settings are working now.
The only thing I did differently was after inputting the recommended settings, I rebooted my phone. I'm able to surf the web with my 220 now, although I still can't access T-Zones.

Posted by: Pglose

Thanks for all of the input contributing to this page. I used the settings from the original first post in this thread except.... I selected the Autodetect box in IE connection settings.

Now, about T-zones. I signed up just now and it's asking me to select my phone from the list. Well, since the 220 is a Cingular phone, it's not on the list. Which one will give me the best content. I suppose I answered my own question, I will look at phonescoop for a t-mobile phone w/ close to the same features.

Anyway, thanks again for helping me get my phone working. I have not yet tried MMS, but my email, and txt still work, so I'll asume for now that it does work.

ip address is also blank

tmobile proxy

connects from: the internet

connect to: wap network

username and password are both blank

after i was done i when to ie and unchecked automatically setting and put

if anyone sees mistakes or has something to say please let me know i had this phone for a while and i cant get it to work

Posted by: Knowledge

I am using a SMT-5600 and I use the same settings you do except for my access point instead of using Internet2.voicestream.com, I use wap.voicestream.com and that works...

Also, how I got everything set up is I used the T-Mobile settings configurator found here: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=333790 Maybe you should try going through that if nothing works... Post back with your results.

Using the settings described above worked for me when I had the 2.99 T-Zones. I could browse almost every web page, use MMS no problem, even access gmail and my company email through the POP3 client. T-zones only worked for a few days, though, and then I just kept getting a blank screen. Never did figure out why....

The problem now is, I just recently switched to the 19.99 Internet data plan. I got everything to work except for the POP3 email. I keep getting an error to check to see if my proxy settings are correct. Does anyone have any ideas?

The problem now is, I just recently switched to the 19.99 Internet data plan. I got everything to work except for the POP3 email. I keep getting an error to check to see if my proxy settings are correct. Does anyone have any ideas?

Never mind, got it to work.

OK, new problem---

When this thread was first posted, I had the 2.99 T-Zones but couldn't get the homepage until I used the settings provided by the OP. It worked for a few days, and then I kept getting a blank screen.

I had given up on ever being able to get the T-Zones homepage on my phone, but my hopes were rekindled upon getting the 19.99 plan. With all ports open, I should have no problems, right? Well, I tried the settings given by the OP and it didn't work. I even spent an hour on the phone with 3 different guys from tier 3 T-MO CS trying a bunch of settings but nothing worked. I even did a google search and came up with this thread:

http://www.expansys.com/forumthread..._JAM&thread=743

Although they weren't that clear to me, I tried to input these settings the best I could (I created two proxies, one on port 9021 and one on port 9023 as stated) but they didn't work!

I even tried both http://wap.myvoicestream.com and wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com.

Anybody have any suggestions?

P.S. Everything else seems to work fine with the internet2 APN: HTTP and HTTPS browsing, Windows Media Player streaming video, email client...just no T-Zones homepage.

P.P.S. Is the t-zones page working for anyone, or is it under construction right now?

tzones page is working and not under construction, the rest I am looking around for you and if I find anything I will post it up.

I cannot get a MPX200 with WM5 working with these settings. Is there anything specific that needs to be done on WM5 to use $5.99 t-zones or t-mobileweb.

Thanks

I followed your instructions and set my connections as shown. Question. In "add gprs", must I select a user name and IP address? Likewise with proxy connections.

Hi guys/gals,

I purchased a O2 mini about 1 month ago. I followed the instructions at the beginning of this thread and was able to connect and browsed the internet (http sites) before the new year. Then I loaded voice command 1.5 and somehow my IE on my O2 mini would not connect to any http site. I have the tzone $4.99 plan and it was working for about 2 weeks. Did T-Mobile tzone changed that affected the gprs and proxy settings posted at the beginning of this thread. Please help. My O2 mini is running Windows Mobile 2k3.

Posted by: dhho1

I finally figured out after reading many of the threads here. What I did wrong was that I forgot to set the proxy setting for http to 216.155.165.50:8080. After I've done that, I can see http pages again. Cheers!

The earlier directions for Mac OS X wouldn't work because you need a custom modem script. I've written one, if anyone's interested:

This thread dates back almost a year now. I'm having difficulty getting all of the Internet functionality that I think I should have with the $9.99 T-Zones Pro access that I have.

I'm using an i-mate SP5m, aka HTC Tornado/Faraday, aka Qtek 8300.

Do any Tier-3 T-Mo tech support reps peruse these forums? Can someone tell us what should be accessible, what is blocked with the

$4.99 T-Zones
$9.99 T-Zones Pro
$29.99 T-Mobile Internet

(Apparently the $19.99 plan has been discontinued. The $29.99 plan includes Internet access and T-Mo Hotspots.)

Settings, please!

MMS needs to go through the wap gateway: wap.voicestream.com

What do u mean wap gateway??

You will need to set up a gprs connection ie: Tmo MMS and make sure it points to wap.voicestream.com. Once your connection is set up your phone should default to sending/receiving mms through wap, which it has to do.

If you are using any other connection method, internet2 or 3.voicestream.com mms will not work.

I dont have a sda so I cant go through all of the screens but you should have a connection menu where you can either confirm this or add it.

Yes, it is possible to browse the web with a T-Zones plan. Not only directly with the phone, but also with a computer, using the phone as a modem (tethering).

One thing I wonder though--is web access slowed down, by going through the T-Zones proxy?

My web access is incredibly slow. When I check it with mobile speed test at dslreports, I get very slow results--such as 1, 2, or at most 10kbps.

Is there anyone (who also has successfully been able to access the internet with T-Zones) who has compared connecting that way, to connecting with the full Internet plan (no proxy), using the same phone, in the same location, etc.? Any speed difference?

My current phone (Audiovox SMT5600, unlocked) is not EDGE capable. Last night in a T-MObile store I tried an MDA, which I'm thinking of getting, which is EDGE-enabled. I put my SIM card in it, and set the proxy in network settings. I expected I would get much faster access, due to EDGE. It was incredibly slow, however, much more so than my non-EDGE phone. I guess it's possible there just wasn't an EDGE signal at that place at that time. But it was in a T-Mo store, in a major metropolitan area (Los Angeles), one would think there would be an EDGE signal there. (I'll be more specific about the location--in case anyone can report whether they have been able to access EDGE from there--corner of Crenshaw and Century, Inglewood. Could anyone report on whether you have been able to access EDGE from that location?)

In any case, I'm wondering if people have found that browsing web sites using the T-Zones proxy, for someone with only the T-Zones plan, provides slower access than if one had the full Internet plan, not using the proxy?

Thank you for your input.

Posted by: Lobo

I think colemanimal is on to something-
It seems like something may have changed at T-mobile back around 3/13...

Seems like some services work (via proxy) but others like Windows Media, MSN Messenger, FTP, etc. are no longer working for me. I have checked at reset my settings many times.

The web and e-mail are still ok, but it's like there is some kind of port or service blocking? Anyone seeing that?

I've been using the $4.99 Tzones plan for a long time, and didn't have any problems until now. I can receive email, but I can't send it anymore "message sending failed - check email settings". I've downloaded the t-mobile settings multiple times, no dice. I can still read emal, delete email from the server, browse web pages using Netfront and Opera. Any help is appreciated.

Question: Does anyone else have trouble doing a Google search on their SDA? I got mine last week and every site works except Gmail and the actually search page for Google, cause the front page pulls up fine if a bit slow...
And is it true that I need to pay for the $30/month T-mo Total Internet? Cause that's what I'm forced to do for ma phone to access to the net :| That ain't coo'.

doesnt work with t-mobile sda
cant connect to any wap site, including wap.voicestream.com

Also, none of the additioanl features work, such as pocket msn, etc.

My T-Zones on my Smartphone also stopped working recently. There is another thread open on this somewhere. I am waiting for a solution.

Even though my device shows the "E" Edge icon, and seems to connect fine, once I try to open a page using Pocket Internet Explorer, it hangs at the "Opening..." and then I get the Alert: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again."

WHAT?

Posted by: floepie

I've been getting this several times in the last week. Seems to be a bit better now...

It seems to be pages in the google domain that just can't connect via EDGE. Why?

This works great on my SDA....Thanks a bunch..

I'm still having problems with the internet settings on my VOQ, but I'm still receiving the internet on my SK2. I realize that I'm using 2 different WAP, but I do have the unlimited data on my sidekick2.
What should I do?

Posted by: Mark Larson

SK2 data won't work on anything else.

Posted by: saintjohnson

I realize this because the SK uses the hiptop WAP, but even after setting up my VOQ with the internet2.voicestream.com WAP settings, I'm still unable to load an internet page.

My service plan has the unlimited data option.

Are there two different unlimited data plans with TMo?

Posted by: detpan

This works great on my SDA... Only problem I have had since is that my Opera browser wont connect anymore unless I use WIFI... IE still works on either but have to change settings in IE connections when I switch between WIFI and GPRS.. I cant seam to get into any connection settings for Opera... Any ideas ?

Posted by: Swivel

I had to make some changes to the suggested settings. In the GPRS menu, under "Connects to:" I selected "WAP Network." In the Proxy menu, under "Connects from:" I selected "WAP Network" and under "Connects to:" I chose "The Internet." All other settings I left the same, including checking the "Automatically detect settings" box in Pocket Internet Explorer and "WAP Network" under the "Select Network:" setting.

This is the only way I could find that would allow my SDA and Internet Explorer to connect to the EDGE/GPRS (or Wi-Fi if available) network automatically. Following the OP's settings forced me to have to constantly change the auto-detect settings within Internet Explorer when switching between GPRS/EDGE networks and Wi-Fi.

Any reason why my method works? Anyone have a response to this, or success with other settings?

Hello Everyone,

These settings work fine for the SDA, but won't let me use MSN Messenger or anything else besides PIE. How can I use MSN/others with below settings?
MSN does not have any option to set which connection to use.
I am using WM5.

Also, WMP can stream mms:// streams of live tv's via wi-fi, but it won't work with t-zones. Is there a way to get that done?

And what is the max speed of T-Zones, does anyone know?

Thank You! B)

MSN doesn't work with t-zones or t-mobileweb. You have to get the $19.99 or $29.99 plan.

Posted by: hyedipin

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply.

I checked my speed and it says around 60-70 kbps on t-mobileweb, on my SDA.

e-mail (POP3) seems to work just fine, but as I said MSN doesn't work. Is there any way to go around it? If not, does anyone know why it doesn't work, is it because MSN is fixed to use a certain connection, or requires a port that is not available with t-mobileweb?

Also, WMP is not working either, I mean for http:// content or mms:// streaming content, through t-mobileweb. What is the reason these software won't function with 'net content?

Posted by: Swivel

Blocked ports.

You're welcome.

Yeah its all about the ports. MSN and streaming stuff is blocked on the $5.99 and $4.99 data plans.

I was trying to receive e-mail with pictures (MMS) in my i-mate as I used to do it with my Sony Ericson T616. I don't have any extra plan for internet just the standard 39.99 T-mobile plan. Now I have an i-mate sp3i and when someone send me an email with picture I just got notified that I have an MMS but when I try to download, it gives me all king of errors depending of the setting I'm trying.
After reading almost all threads I found they are refering to use Internet 5.99 or 19.99 ... etc but what would be the settings if I only need MMS like I have in my T-616, I'm not looking for T-Zones or WAP, just MMS.
Thanks.

I have *almost the same setting at you. Except that I leave IE alone and let him work the connection ("Automatically Detect Connection: ON"). My phone still works and based on speed test is doing what I want (see below)

My question is: if you set as you said, and you use wap network on IE, when you are in your home network with Wi-Fi, isn't that IE using GPSR still? I want to use my wi-fi when at home because is much faster.

And again, based on my tests, I have 400k when at home and 100-120 when on the road...And
