Ok, I didn't know this could be done but I was posting here on HOFO on my BB and I received a phone call in the middle of typing. I didn't think data and voice could go at the same time. Or was that in reference to using the BB as a modem and talking at the same time?

You're not quite using data and voice at the same time.

The BlackBerry only puts the phone offline briefly for 2 seconds.
(it only transmits the email data when you click "Send")

The way the BlackBerry works is that BlackBerry is always-on. You're only simply unable to receive phone calls when you see the arrows at the upper-right corner.

Notice how the arrows only flash occasionally? See? The arrows flash only when you click "Send".

Makes sense?

Whenever you are seeing the arrows flashing for more than 5 seconds, that means you can't receive phone calls during those little instants
Whenever you are on the phone, no data can come in and go out, but you can write emails while on the phone. Just that they won't be transmitted until you hang up.

So that means the Blackberry is very good at making it look like you have simultaneous voice and data. Basically you can write emails while your're on the phone, and you can receive calls while writing an email. It's just that the email will stay in your Outbox and not get transmitted until right after you hang up the phone.

The only real times where voice and data becomes a big problem is when you have a long phone call and you're waiting for an important email messages. It can't download new email messages while you're on the phone. But you can read existing emails and compose new emails while on the phone.
