Samsung E315 review!

Well when I got this phone, I searched and searched for a long detailed review about it. I got the Samsung E315 in replacement for my Motorola V300 (mainly because I was bored with the V300, I won't lie)

Here is what I think of this phone overal:

--The Samsung E315, is fairly light, in contrast to the V300 at least.

--The camera is of much better quality then the V300. The video feature is cool, it's more of a gimmic though, and yes you can view them on your computer (send them to "My Album").

--The Screen is nice and vivid, it's MUCH nicer then my fathers Samsung E315 (thats 2 months old, and looks washed out), I don't know if I would go so far as to say it's nicer then the V300, but it's at least equal.

--The RF is hmm.. You know, I can't give a real answer on this, it seems to drop more calls then my v300 did, I won't lie. It seems to go in and out of service ALOT more, people say its because it refreshes at a higher rate, I just know it drops alot more calls.

--Sound quality...When I first got this phone, I played with for an hour, before I made a call (sad but true) the first call sounded horrible, but it seems to medicore or a little aboutaverage in terms of volume and clarity. I have had a few people complain about hearing an echo of themselves.

--External CID screen...When I first heard this phone had a color CID screen, I was like BFD, it probally looks like crap (like most other color cid screens do). Well, evadentally its 65k colors, and it looks amazingly sharp and nice! It however, didn't come with many wallpaper options for it, I belive four in all, I would have liked to of been able to put my own on it.

--Battery life... The battery life, even with my heavy texting, and voice useage (say about an hour or two). It can last me two days, but by the second evening, it will be dead, and thats with turning it off when I go to sleep. It'd say it's not quite as good as the V300.

--The buttons... Buttons, hmm..You know when I got the V300, I hated that **** keypad, it was akward and what not... Now I miss it. The E315's keypad doesn't protrude enough, it's very much like the E105, actually it's the same. With the exception of the four way keypad at the top, the diffrence is, you can make it customized to your liking.

--Menu.. What i'd love to know is how come Motorola gets critqued about how slow the menu is, and this one is worse?! I suppose going threw the menu itself, it isn't that slow (but neither was the V300/V600 I had). My biggest rant about this phone is AIM, but we will get to that in a minute.

--Games.. I haven't really played with the games, I mean really who plays games on there phone? The one I have played on this phone is LAME! It's called smile, it's like a bejeweled rip off.

--WAP/AIM... This is my biggest complaint about this phone! AIM is so slow it is useless, it literally takes a minute (even more sometimes) with full coverage to sign on, and alot of times I get "sign on failed" hmm... V300 didn't do that, and didn't take as long to sign on. WAP on this phone is VERY slow and also fails too (even with full service), they need to fix this.
Alot of the time, AIM when I "refresh" my buddy list, says failed.

---Misc rants/likes... I love the hands free jacks cover! it slides back and forth, why couldn't someone have came up with this years ago?! I've lost dozens of rubber inserts!
Dislike, The charger cover is rubber, and I lost it the first day, it doesn't have anything holding it onto the phone.
The handsfree IS indeed diffrent then a regular 2.5mm jack... It looks like a usb type connector, why did they do this?

Overall, I like this phone, but I wouldn't pay $200 for it, infact I wouldn't pay $150 for it either. I have to say, I wish it had a speakerphone, so it'd compete better with the V300, but hey oh well right?

I give it a 7.5 out of 10. I'd say the V300 is a better phone though.

I'd have to disagree with you on some things. First of all, I would say that the signal strength is better than the V300. I know people with those phones and mine consistently has a better signal, even when my battery is weak. Second, the battery life is pretty good. I use WAP all the time and I have not charged my phone in 3 days and the battery is 2/3 bars. Also, I have had no problems with calls dropping or bad sound quality.

My biggest complaint of the phone is that the largest size for ringtones is 40kb and it does not support mp3.

My phone has MP3 ringers on it..

I live in Denver/Aurora where RF is perfect, and yet this phone drops calls. Maybe its just my new, defective phone?

your phone does not have mp3 ringers on it, it has low quality mmf ringers

samsung e315 is not mp3 capable.

close enough...

not really. Listen both mmf and mp3 and you'll see the difference

I think the E315 is a great phone... except for the sound quality. The sound out of the earpiece is a little distorted, and it gets worse the higher the volume. Also, I've had people on the other end complain they can hear an echo of themselves quite often when they're talking to me (they've been on several different carriers, including T-Mo). However, this is only when I'm not using the hands-free earphone. I've never had anyone complain about an echo while I was using the hands-free, and I use it a lot (more often than not). I think the sound quality is a little better that way too. So if you don't mind using the hands-free a lot, it's not a bad phone (I think the camera is great too).

Seems lots of people have the same problems with the e315 as me. I inherited mine through replacement from T-MO after sending back 2 of the Moto v300's for various problems. With the 315 I Dropped calls more common than with my v300, speaker sounds a little jacked-up, and the RF is seemingly weaker than with the Moto. This may be due to my house being in a fringe area where it isn't all that uncommon, except with my current phone (SKII), it did happen more even in full coverage areas. Same opinion of the keypad, as a previous poster, not raised and kind of difficult if you are used to another more spaced out layout. Overall not too many real complaints for the price and plenty of nifty features, especially the size and killer outer display. I give it an 8/10.
