I get the same thing on my VX8000.

With the 7000, go into the preferences of bitpim and make sure you have the VX7000 chosen as the type of phone. The error appears to be one that happens when it has the wrong phone model info and can't properly read/write the info from/to the phone.
On the 8000.....bitpim does not work yet with the send/get phone data. The only thing you can do with bitpim is to go into filesystem. Very useful there in grabbing photos/videos you have saved, and for putting in new ringtones and MP3's.

sounds like drivers.
If the drivers are there, your pc should show your phone in the device manager. If not go to the driver site in my sig and download the software.

Of course BitPim only lets you define the phone as a VX7000 under settings, and I am using the latest version (7.27)
Any suggestions?
thanks

Make sure you have it set to AUTO on the com port. Or, look in your DEVICE MANAGER under Hardware. Check to see what port the phone is installed on.
