Wow, I did it last night made the jump from the vx600 to the SK2 I’m nervous.

Anyways here are my questions I will try to make them very distinct and if the questions are answered pretty well then maybe we can make it a sticky for newbs such as me

1. How do you set up your email on your phone such as @wi.rr.com?

2. Is there certain configurations to start viewing web pages or do you just type the address?

3. If you have the sidekick plan you get to do what? Unlimited email, aim, online time, downloads what? I wasn't sure because they had things like picture mail and other things I wasn't sure about

4. Where do I get a data cable and what is it used for? On the vx600 it was meant to upload/download images, sounds, and phone numbers

5. What are some things you should do to make your sk2 work nice coming out of the box (setting, ring tones, what?)

6. On the SK2 what can you customize and what are popular sites to do this on? I seen a few show your customize sk2 and I see you can change bumpers?

7. What other accessories have you noticed are pretty necessary for this phone?

8. What about the apps, I heard that there was some tool to customize your phone but I heard they don't offer it anymore or you have to send something in for the tool? Would someone like to elaborate on this?

9. Do they support Java yet because I know it was suppose to be released some time soon?

10. Lastly are the servers running quicker and less time out's since there maintance they have been doing?

I think that is about it, sorry for so many questions but I want to make sure I use my SK2 to it's fullest and I want to have my new bumpers, accessories , cable before the phone comes ( getting shipped tomorrow 3/4/05)

Ill cover some of your questions..

1. T-Mobile gives you an e-mail adress ( your#@tmail.com ) but i think you need to go on to tmobile.com and register for My-TMobile.

3. The sidekick plan is unlimited web, aim, txt messages and pix messages. Basically everything.

4. The data cable is on Ebay.. so far the only purpose of the data cable is for people who have the dev keys and then they are able to add ringers to their phones. To learn more about the dev key and how only few can get it, search around the danger fourm.. they're lots of posts.

6. Well, you can get your sidekick jeweled like the celebrities at NYCPeach.com for 400 dollars.. or you can purchase a skin .. this post shows a bunch of nice fixed up sidekicks -- http://howardforums.com/showthread....threadid=571756

8. For descriptions of the applications on the sidekick go to http://danger.com/consumers_hiptop2.php
and click more about hiptop2 on the side.. that should so u the apps..

thats all i have to cover for you since im a new sidekick user.. hope it helps :-)

1. You can set up 3 additional email accounts to be checked as long as they are POP or IMAP. They get checked I think every 15 or 30 minutes. You do this on your SK from the Email application, Settings, Accounts, then hit Menu and choose New Account.

2. Just type the address. It may take a while at the Requesting screen because Danger's servers have to do a lot of processing on the page before sending it to your SK.

5. It's all a matter of preference I don't think anything was really wrong out of the box.

7. I like the sideways carrying case but put the SK with the screen facing in toward you or the case will push on the Go button all the time and maybe wear the button out or make your battery run down faster.

8. I don't know what you mean, you can set a lot of settings in all of the apps. But if you are thinking about the developer key you have to prove you really are a serious programmer to get that so basically forget it unless you really are a good programmer.

10. Everything is fast for me except the web. The web is slow if there are a lot of pictures on the page, but text sites like Yahoo Mobile are fast enough.

Dev keys what does it do ? Just hack to customize stuff?

The developer key allows you to load applications and ringtones onto the SK using a data cable, without a dev key the data cable is useless. Basically it is so you can test your programs and tones to make sure they are working, but some people signed up for dev keys just so they could load tones on their phones and they aren't really developers so now it is hard to get a developer key.
