8920 Flash Is TOO SHORT~!

While taking pictures in dark or near-dark settings, the flash does not work properly.
In the display, everything will go bright and be seen for about a second after I press the button to take the picture....but then as SOON as the flash stops the picture is taken!
I have had 2 8920's and I know it is the same with both of them!
How can I make the flash longer, or how can I fix this?
